what makes a post-run, 4-egg generously seasoned omelette with a tantalising dribble of smoked fish on top so special? make-able at home and best enjoyed on the couch in track pants. this is why i left brown sugar mildly disappointed - restaurant prices for diy comfort food. my stomach was satisfied, my card balance was not. today's lesson is beware the devil ineggson toast - it carries many disguises. at least this is reinforced by fresh vegetables and cured proteins. four at the table means good scope for dish swaps. i reason that sharing a mixed platter gives excellent diversification benefits. minimal dud order risk. breakfast platter  - vegetables, quinoa, hash, eggson za'atar toast $22 for a single, $40 for double ... retail selling 101 and by the wife's shopping logic, this is a buy one get the second 20% off! a relative bargain, so to speak. a highly enjoyable royal rumble of six quality elements. quinoa stands tall and cute bits of cauliflower roasted in spice plus crunchy almond flakes will turn any meat lover. picked red cabbage was delicious the chefs don't try to overwork the produce; so important. maccas worked out long ago that fried potato is a crowd pleaser; the chef's copy this mantra. 8/10 effort but not worth dwelling upon. onion and mushroom bialy - a dyslexic mouthful. onion and mushroom bialy with smoked trout, poached egg salmon roe & lemon butter - $18 ultra thick succulent mushrooms with smoked trout drenched in egg yolk is powerful indeed. call it what you want, but this is a premium bagel juiced up with steroidal use of trout. the visual reminds me of a queen sized blanket covering a single mattress. smoked trout with perfectly poached egg in 2012 i accidentally ran the ny road runners 18 mile race, i merged a free giant bagel at the finish with store bought salmon. this combo was eaten on a bench in central park manhattan - net cost $3 plus 2.5 hours running pain. my benchmark experience, pun intended! today's bagel delivered similar

we enjoyed a sensational sunday morning breakfast here. we were promptly greeted and seated and quickly after that the line outside began to grow, you could tell this was a popular place among locals as for good reason. we ordered the moroccaneggs(baked eggs) a breakfast platter and a smoothie bowl. all dishes were full of flavour, made fresh and presented to a very high standard. and all for a reasonable price. staff are friendly and even though the place is loud and crowded it is still very enjoyable to sit and chat. besides the egg yolks being well over cooked in the bakedeggsi have nothing but praise to give this place and will be back next time i'm in the area. highly recommended.

a local friend recommended the place, so stopped here for brunch before checking out the sculptures. expected the place to be full for saturday brunch, but it was only about half full. however it still had a great vibe about. the food was devine! i had the asparagus & parmesan poachedeggswith jamon serrano (spanish ham). the truffle oil added great fragrant to the dish, the poachedeggswere perfectly oozy. the service was ok. a good brunch option around the area.

on sydney's first hot day, everywhere in bondi was packed but my friend highly recommended brown sugar so we decided to give it a try. we only had to wait 10-15mins for a table for 3. there were a few things on the menu i was very keen on trying but i chose the moroccaneggsand a passionfruit soda . my friends both chose the chicken burger. myeggswere fantastic! i loved that the tahini and zhoug were on the side. i didn't touch my zhoug as i don't like it. i was curious to see what tahini would taste like with this dish and at first i was a bit skeptical but it was actually delicious! it added so much more flavour and the dish itself was flavoursome! i was very happy. my passionfruit soda was great also. my friends both enjoyed their chicken burgers however both agreed that it needed more sauce. service was a little slow (after all, they were very busy) but staff were very friendly. a great experience and i would be happy to return.

this is a little gem of a cafe that couples as a dinner place throughout the week. open for breakfast, brunch and lunch on fri/sat/sun from 8:30am - 2:30pm. the menu is great, it mixes up your usual breakfast fare and plenty of healthy options. this trend follows through into lunch with great looking salads and fresh sandwiches and pasta. if you are looking for a filling and hot breakfast the basil and feta scrambledeggsis a tasty pick. if you are looking for dinner head there tuesday through sun. haven’t had a dinner meal yet but the cocktail list looks enticing enough to get me there. will be back soon.

the brunch and lunch menu at brown sugar is extensive and varied including burgers, salads, pastas, ribs, steak, sandwiches (phew) and poachedeggsin just about any number of herbs and spices. i’d highly recommend visiting after 12pm, that way you have access to the all day brunch and the lunch options. don’t get me wrong the breakfast menu sounds pretty attractive too but i just prefer eating later.

another cool little cafe in bondi that only offers brekky fri sat sun (we were surprised on wednesday). looks small but seats quite a few indoors and outdoors. we were really happy with the food, tastyeggsand well cooked crispy bacon. the pancakes were a big hit, fruit compote from frozen fruit? (these fruits are still in season) not so great. coffee was a bit zingy, not the style i like but well made. lovely sourdough toast and tasty scrambled eggs, lovely texture. fairly safe and predictable menu. 1 friendly waitress, 1 a bit snippy.

not sure if we were in luck, but we did not have to wait for a table of 5 on a sunny sat avo. staffs were friendly and service was quick. and the food, absolutely love it! we love all the dishes and each was packed with flavours. i have to point out the moroccan eggs, especially, as it is usually tend to be a very bland and ordinary dish. but this was a pleasure every mouthful! probably the best bakedeggsin sydney? my new favourite cafe. definitely will be back for more!

came to this place on a sunny weekend in november for lunch, during sculptures by the sea. we were lucky to be seated right away as the place was very busy. i ordered the moroccan eggs, while my partner ordered the chicken burger with extra cheese and bacon. the food did take a while to come out, probably due to the fact that they had a full house. but when it did come out, it looked fantastic.

my moroccaneggswere still sizzling away in the pan with the slow cooked spiced capsicum and tomato, the flavour of which was the highlight of the whole dish. so tangy and delicious. my partner's meal looked incredible, the chicken crispy-skinned like it was straight out of the southern states of the usa, oozing with delicious mayo, and the potatoes looking perfectly brown and crispy. i had a bite and was the most delicious chicken burger i have ever tasted (i know what i'll be getting next time i go there!)

to top it all off, as we went to pay the bill, they gave us a free piece of brownie each - how nice is that! which was also yummy and chocolatey. can't wait to go back sometime!

there’s a reason why i picked this in particular, mainly because of the word ‘truffle’. its been a while since my last poachedeggsand i’m glad i tried this! there was a sprinkle of crunchy onions (i believe they were onions), really tasty prosciutto and the beautifully yellow and smooth yolk. black stoneeggs– english muffin, tomato, poached egg, hash brown mr c’s choice were the black stone eggs. i imagined theeggsto be cooked black or served as a hard boiled egg but that wasn’t the case, it was actually referring to the unique hash brown with fillings. i loved the hash brown, it was deep fried until they were a beautiful golden brown and very crunchy. their gourmet tomatoes were deliciously sweet and juicy. skim latte we ordered a skim latte with no sugar to help fix my lack of sleep the night before.

what i’m looking for in the perfect brunch place, apart from the mandatory good coffee, is an exhaustive menu of breakfast options that will cater for my everchanging morning cravings. being the first meal of the day you want to get your day off to a terrific start whether it’s in a sweet or savoury direction (the big decisions). brown sugar is the perfect spot for me with a broad and tasty menu in a seaside locale. in fact brown sugar has long been my favourite place for breakfast in all of sydney. brown sugar interior catching up with friends for this sunday brunch i’m delighted to catch up with good friends at my absolute favourite spot for brekky. am also quite fortunate that everyone feels like something different off the menu giving us a diverse journey this saturday morning. recent new mum is rewarding her tremendous work bringing life into this world with the gorgeous looking moroccaneggsthis slow cooked, spiced capsicum & tomatoes wit

brown sugar is a favourite of mine for breakfast, particularly for their blackstoneeggsand good coffee. after hearing great things about their dinner menu, last night i tried it the first time and i am sad to say i was fairly disappointed. food and service was ok, but did not match the fine dining price bracket. we were on an early booking and so had only 2 hours, but waited some time for our mains to come out - so much so that we didn't have time for dessert. we ordered a 2008 bottle of chardonnay and when a 2009 bottle appeared at our table received quite a careless / surprised reaction to our complaint. overall a good atmosphere and ok food, but not somewhere i'll be going again for dinner anytime soon.

never, ever again!. brown sugar's service has always been hesitant, rude and dripping with disdain. as a bondi local i have tolerated it thus far because the food has always outweighed the terrible service. but no longer. i have finally been treated with enough disrespect and attitude that i will do the only thing i can and vote with my feet and never return.

we arrived on a sunday morning for brunch. we were told the wait “shouldn’t be longer than ten minutes or so”. fine, no problem. after 30 minutes we inquired about our table, finally after 50 minutes we were given a table with no hint of an apology or even a smile.

we ordered coffees and drinks straight away and told the waitress that we were ready to order when she was (we had plenty of time to peruse the menu while we waited for almost an hour). we were told that she wasn’t taking orders. we flagged down another waitress who also wasn’t taking orders. we finally got the attention of the manager / head waitress / owner / maitre de and asked her if she wouldn’t mind taking our order. she rolled her eyes, and snapped that she was really busy and then told us that she also wasn’t taking orders. call me old school, but i miss the days when those who work in hospitality were actually hospitable. i know it’s a big ask to have our order taken an hour and 20 minutes after we arrive at a café, but pretty please miss boss woman?

a fourth waitress finally took our order. i wanted a simple breakfast of poachedeggson toast. i was told that they no longer were serving poachedeggs(from the breakfast menu) even though poachedeggsis a feature of their all day brunch menu. i understand if i was asking for ingredients that had been put away or were no longer in stock, but brown sugar was still serving toast and still serving poached eggs.

the final straw was when the table seated next to us, who arrived and ordered after us got their food before us, and guess what? they got poached eggs.

i would tolerate brown sugar’s flaws if not for the terribly rude staff. i don’t know who they are, or more importantly who they think they are? but i get enough attitude from clients etc and don’t pay premium prices to bear the brunt of some snotty managers foul mood.

there are cheaper, yummier and more pleasant places for brunch. i shall not be returning.

the cafe keeps things fairly simple with the main decoration a wall painted entirely black with the menu painted on. brunch here is sensational with a menu that runs all day. one of the best dishes is the black stoneeggs($15) which includes poachedeggsserved on english muffins with bacon and slow roasted tomatoes. the home made hash browns on the side are as good as you’ll get anywhere. the moroccaneggs($17) is also worth ordering with sweet slow cooked spiced capsicum and tomatoes surrounding a poached egg. the sides here are baby spinach and toasted turkish bread spiced with za’atar. the only fault here is the service, while our waitress was really friendly she man
