unbelievable bad service. the staff has such a bad attitude that we left therestaurantwithout eating anything. i enjoy resurrection ale and was excited to try it from the source. the rude, surly, demeaning staff are not worth a burger and fries.

shh, a baltimore staple.. i love the brewer's art, i've been here many times. therestaurantis divided into two separate restaurants. upstairs, and downstairs with separate entrances. upstairs is upscale, quiet yet bustling, tall ceilings, dim lighting and has a great atmosphere. downstairs, is a dressed up dark cave. it's a bar, with really really loud music.

now the food-
upstairs has a decent sized menu with original items, more seafood than anything else. i'd order anything off the menu any day of the week, but i look out for the seasonal specials. i've ordered the steak frites, which is nothing less than spectacular...but it should really come with the seasoned rosemary fries which are only offered downstairs, and if you insist they will substitute them, but generally they give you a hard time. great brews without exception- do i really need to tell you how great they're beer is? it stands alone. i've ordered a few of their fish dishes as well and i'm always completely satisfied with my order.

downstairs, if you can withstand the noise and bring your flashlight to read the menu, is an experience all its own. they have a great burger that comes with rosemary fries, and i only wish it were offered upstairs so that i could dine in a more mellow setting. i've again tried their seasonal items, like a chickpea burger that was blow your mind, i need that recipe good. now, if you're not looking to eat, downstairs is the happening, trendy, upscale mt.vernon bar you've been dreaming of. bartenders are excellent, they can make almost any drink you can think of without explanation.

i understand their reasoning for not allowing you to order a burger and fries while upstairs in their dining room, but i would gladly pay a surcharge to have it upstairs if my plan was to come for a meal.

will be back many more times to come, can't wait to see what will pop up next on their menu!

meh.... hoping to be wowed...not. our wait person jenn was great, the beer/beer list excellent.

we started with mussels, charcuterie and caesar salad - mussels were bland, caesar was status quo, croutons were probably not made in house and even the parm looked like the factory grate. the charcuterie was the best opener - loved the mustards and pickled carrots with the duck prosciutto and "sweetish" crème brulee style chicken liver mousse.

i had the arctic char, husband had the steak, sis the walleye ( ok we grew up in minnesota and this didn't look like any walleye we ever had where it really is local ! ) and bro in law the chicken. my husband's steak was great - i think we were all having plate lust over what he ordered. my fish was cooked perfectly but it was just blah - the brick of "potatoes", pesto, asparagus - all very bland and sitting on an apple puree ? there was just nothing bright and flavorful about the dish, same went for the walleye. the sauce it was sitting on could have been great but it was just there. i loved my bro in law's query when his plate showed up "where's the chicken ?!" it was one of those precious bricks again with a brick of potatoes. imho - where was the color ? where was the bright fresh flavor - this whole farm to table movement is all well and good but the farm i grew up on our veggies, lettuce, baby spinach...even our beef cattle - tasted like real food.

and then, everything was tan or brown on our plates - with the exception of the steak. meh.

dessert was the lemon meringue tart - sis thought it tasted like the fridge and she was probably right. i thought the pate brisee crust was a tad stale.

therestaurantitself was very cool - old home converted into a funky shabby chic restaurant. you know it's shabby when you go to the john, sit down to do your biz and see some sort of pleather (!?) hanging under the sink to hide the wall/ugly ass plumbing fixtures and someone (??who the atch would actually sit on the floor of the bathroom under the sink and do this ?! ) had done graffiti in the part of the two pieces of pleather. what ?!

all in all - we'd go back to drink and maybe have an appetizer if we're in b'more. but the chef would do well to go visit ten ten and see what they're doing because they're getting this thing right.

both arestaurantand bar, the brewer's art is a local brewery in baltimore pushing out some nice artisan beer alongside some pretty elegant eats. save a few dollars from therestaurantside and have a look at their bar menu for some great small dishes like this seasonal gnocchi dish. sauteed with pumpkin and greens, it was a quaint little dish that went well with their microbrews.

thank you for saving the horrible artscape. i have to commend the brewer's art staff on the handling of the huge numbers of artscape refugees that started to line up outside therestauranton saturday a half hour before they opened and didn't leave till late. the bar staff kept the overstuffed bar area happy and even spent a good deal of time explaining the beers to first time visitors. i wish places near camden yards could learn to handle such crowds around o's games.

the beer continues to be the best brewed in the baltimore area and while the winter menu is better than the summer, the food is well suited to the beer.
