we had an amazing evening at bloodwood. thanks so much. it was 9 of us and we had 9coursemenuwhich was absolutely delicious. they took care of gluten and dairy free options without a problem. vegetarian obviously too. our germanic waitress was great. super friendly and very efficient. definitely going back.

the fried chicken seems to be a popular staple on their restaurantmenuand i just had to try it when i saw it. the chicken itself was extremely juicy inside but the best part was easily the spiced batter which is incredibly crispy and flavoursome.

not deserving what you pay. we had a banquetmenuwith a group of friends. the food did not have the taste. soms dishes literally tasted the same. secondly the service was horrible. since we stepped into the restaurant, the negative vibe was given by the head waiter and followed by the other ones. not worth. you won't get the worth what you pay.

really impressed with bars 🍸 that are serving up quality dishes. we came as a group and shared:
🥜 vegan 'pate' made from nut butter.
🐟 ceviche.
🍇 fig & grape salad.
🥗 crab salad.
🍗 fried chicken with purple cabbage.
🦐 prawns with curry butter (ask for extra bread to mop up all that sauce).
🍄 slow cooked brisket with mushrooms

portion sizes are small, so if you are hungry, i'd recommend going for the setmenubecause we ended up ordering almost everything.

drinks were great and staff were friendly.

where to begin; a creativemenuthat changes with the seasons, with flavours and combinations that work wonders, and attentive and wonderful staff to boot. would definitely recommend to everyone and would totally come back again. many times.

not sure why there’s so many negative reviews here for bloodwood... we dined as a group of 15 on a saturday night for a birthday celebration and enjoyed all the banquetmenuitems! the cuttlefish curry was beautifully cooked and fried chicken was delicious. portions were also just perfect and had us very satisfied at the end of the night! service was great, staff was very accommodating with our group (even with pram situations we had!). we also brought a cake which they happily served to us and no cakeage charged! loved this place and i’m sure i’ll be back!

i love this place. i regularly frequent it for it's divine cocktails and share-plate concept.
the polenta chips are always a favourite and i love the rotatingmenuthat keeps me intrigued. and i never leave without dessert!

my partner and some friends walked in around 9pm for a late dinner - this place was packed. we waited for a table for around 10-15 minutes but were well looked after in the time - we were given the beveragesmenuand our drinks arrived promptly. themenuis designed to share which is a wonderful idea and was extremely cost efficient. everything that arrived on our table was well thought and delicious out and the staff were super helpful. i have been keen to visit this place for a while and it was definitely worth the wait. highly recommend!

"is it too early to have a cocktail," i ask, somewhat facetiously, as i have already decided i’m having the geary boulevard ($18). even though the yardarm had barely scraped past noon, my waitress's firm ‘never’ further steadies my resolve. plus i muse, this drink contains grapefruit - along with a generous helping of calle 23 blanco tequila - so it’s practically a breakfast juice.i consume it outside on the sun-drenched back balcony, wondering why it’s taken me a year to return to bloodwood. the cocktail list contains some gems (my smoky breakfast juice notwithstanding); the beer list is enormous by most restaurant standards; and the wine list produces gems like the 2015 ravensworth 'the grainery' ($67). the latter is an utterly approachable, field blend of marsanne, roussanne, viognier and chardonnay from the murrumbateman area.it's a textural white wine that traverses our widely disparate selections from the sharingmenuwell; starting with a lightly sichuan rendition of raw hiramasa kingfish ($23) resting on a juicy, wet green papaya, cucumber and pomelo base, and ending with a...

great food scary intimidating service

first impression of bloodwood was awesome. trendy little spot with an interestingmenuand loaded with 'cheery' hipsters. on arrival we were told there would be a wait, but not too long, so we had a drink in the downstairs bar. all good. enter scary waitress. amanda. the hard sell was put on. hard. we felt very pressured into ordering some small dishes downstairs as suddenly we were told there was a huge wait for tables. anyway when our table eventually was ready we decided to stay on the bar stools. at which point amanda cheered right up. woo hoo no tips lost.
food was great, though i have to say the shine was massively taken off by the obvious territorial battle going on between the upstairs and downstairs wait staff. we had been looking forward to bloodwood for a while and for a place that you can't book they should take better care of the front of house experience. amanda got her tip, we were scared not to. :-) we would go back for the food but probably wont for fear of the staff.

the top line: bloodwood has a bar at the front and an enchanting restaurant at the back with utterly unique dishes that you couldn’t find anywhere else in sydney – lamb nuggets with pistachio crumb and polenta chips, anyone?. the review: please get in early to avoid waiting. the restaurant itself isn’t big, and once a big group of people enter, you’re chances will be slim. we went at 6:20pm and got the last table for 4 on the deck. themenuis one page (while the drinksmenuboasts a few pages), but all of the items were creations on their own.

really greatmenuwith a variety of meals designed to share. it's a perfect style of place for a date night. the meat board was beautiful with a range of pickled vegetables. we also enjoyed the yorkshire pudding but the rhubarb flavour was a little too subtle.

soothing easy service. every dish no matter how strange it reads on themenuare "finger tracing the bowl" delicious. sunday arvos on the deck out the back just the ticket. you could spend the day here.

wine list? not my bag by a long stretch, a bit obtuse and wanky for newtown but you'll grind through. my fave place to go. i choose sat or sun arvos so you don't have to go through the bother of having your name and number taken because there's no table for an hour +.

arrived early (6ish) on a sunday for dinner and were seated right away. amazing wait staff (friendly service, water always kept full, helpful withmenuand providing suggestions). food was delicious.. we had the lamb nuggets, yorkshire with goats cheese, chickpea pancake and the duck breast. ample serving sizes and designed to be shared between two. both wines we had were of good quality too. all round excellent dining experience. one of the few fancier dining experiences compared to the rest of king st so understandably, a little pricier. thanks :)
