about time. about time newtown moved up into the world of decent food. this place is the best thing to happen in a long time, anywhere -greatvibe, gorgeous food. food is simple, fresh, morish and you can see the deft of touch from a chef that has worked with some of the best chefs in oz..

two of us had 11 dishes!!!, one $80.00 wine, two beers and a cognac and the total - $280.00 - this is a bargain as far as we are concerned.

the trifle by the way is out of control!!

came for dinner on a sunday night and the ambience was warm and pleasant. service was minimal but efficient. absolutely loved the chickpea pancake; like a flavoursome pizza. and the coconut tapioca dessert is a must!greatplace to come with a few friends where it's quiet enough to chat and staff won't bother you too much!

second time and it appears all the teething problems of two years ago have been solved.greatwine list but disappointing when some are sold out and still listed :(

this restaurant has been here for years in newtown but this was our first visit. we had agreattime here on friday night. both service and dishes were excellent and will definitely return.

really impressed with bars 🍸 that are serving up quality dishes. we came as a group and shared:
🥜 vegan 'pate' made from nut butter.
🐟 ceviche.
🍇 fig & grape salad.
🥗 crab salad.
🍗 fried chicken with purple cabbage.
🦐 prawns with curry butter (ask for extra bread to mop up all that sauce).
🍄 slow cooked brisket with mushrooms

portion sizes are small, so if you are hungry, i'd recommend going for the set menu because we ended up ordering almost everything.

we had dinner here last night, we had the cured duck salad with black rice, delicious, juicy duck full of flavours; the socca, a chickpeas flat bread covered in roasted cauliflower, filling and really good. we finished with the wagyu steak with spatzle and chimichurri. the steak was perfect, i personally didn’t love the mushroom puree it came with.greatservice and casual atmosphere. will go back to try more dishes!

very inconspicuous but tempting entrance, fit in the *newtown vibe* very well. agreatplace to go with a friend and sit for a while to have a drink and nice chat during the early evening on sunday. delicious cocktails

have not been before as it gets very busy on a friday and saturday night. went for s saturday lunch. staff are super friendly and helpful. the food isgreatand there is an excellent variety of cocktails, spirits and wine on the menu.
definitely recommend.

what is sad about this place is the customer service, it is sad for such agreatvibe, sometimes staff is a bit to much on the bad attitude, like there is no need to b moody. food some dishes where fantastic others to much of the same. is good i guess for 2 and sharing but yes if u r a big eater or like good portions this is not for u. like i think was ok, but i can't say i'll b back any time soon or there was a dish i loved no. it was ok. not disappointing but notgreateither

amazing food.greatservice. lovely atmosphere. i was recommended to come here for dinner and i don't regret it. i am looking forwards to the next time i come here. every dish has its own creative and unique charm and i loved every bite.

bloodwood was agreatexperience all round. seems to always be busy as they don’t take bookings for groups under 8, and will not seat you until everyone in your party has arrived. once seated though, we receivedgreatservice from a lovely man who seemed to be looking after the second floor.

to start we ordered some cocktails. i actually didn’t hear what my friend ordered otherwise would have gone with something else for more variety, but what an amazing choice the riced vovo was! it was definitely up there with one of the best cocktails i have tried. and it was a pretty pink which was a bonus too. must order this!

for food we went with the heirloom tomato salad, tuna, cauliflower, and sesame mushrooms. everything was very well done and tasty, although some more so than others. the fried cauliflower was probably not asgreatas i expected, as there are quite a few places that do this dish, and they do it well. in that sense it was not a new flavor i had not tried before. tuna was very refreshing but you will also be able to find this elsewhere. in saying this, they were still very tasty and you won’t be disappointed if ordering these dishes.

tomato and radicchio was surprisingly a memorable dish as we didn’t have too high expectations. all the ingredients were very fresh and the garlic groutons were the winning topper. i personally loved the mushrooms the most – the combination with wakame and daikon were superb and this asian style dish elevated this meal to another level. yum!

bloodwood was well rounded and there are plenty more options to try. i believe we had success with each thing we ordered and think this is a place highly worth checking out. but try and get there early so you don’t have to wait too long!

definitely not happy last time i went the server asked "oh do you want your change?" after giving him $100 for the $93 bill.

been there a few weeks back, good friendly service and nice vibe. however the food didn't really stand out, or we set our expectation a bit too high. dishes weregreatfor sharing, however a bit lack of flavour and the plating could have been better. avoid the polenta chips and cured duck breast with sticky rice if you can.

bloodwood is located in south side king street in newtown. from the outside, it seems small but it opens up beautifully through the back to reveal modern seating with a downstairs banquet type area. the decor is simple, modern and a tad quirky but i was taken aback at how the venue lacked warmth and character.

one of the strengths of bloodwood is their exceptional drinks menu. the wine list is impressive and they have an impressive selection of beers. the cocktail list also is broad enough to suit anyone's tastebuds, from barrel aged negroni's to a mexican twist on a manhattan.

the food started out promising - the scallops which were the special for the night were beautiful and full of flavour. they were also very visually appealing. the marinaded lamb was beautifully tender but the kingfish lacked flavour. the grassfeed beef strip loin was also cooked inconsistently and wasn't a particularly inspiring dish. finally, the fried chicken was a strange mishmash of sweet and savoury. while the chicken itself was juicy, the batter was soggy and the accompanying ice berg lettuce lacked crunch. it wasn't agreatnote to end on.

the service overall was efficient and prompt plus the staff were knowledgable about the food and beverage offerings. while bloodwood has plenty going for it, it fell very short of the hype.
