we had great dining experience in black orchid. the resto bar is located at first floor. good crowd, nice ambience and insta worthy interior! the music was not too loud.

the best part is service. the staffs made us comfortable and service was super fast . coming to food, spicy salmon sushi and kunafi prawn were smaller in size. i really loved the grilled beef tenderloin with rosemary jus. it was so chewy and delicious. the cini stick mocktail (sugar cane base) was interesting. there is not much variety onmenubut available items were really good. i felt that price could have been on lower side. the food quality was top notch. nice place to hangout with friends on saturday night.

probably the best service i've ever experienced in a restaurant. i've tried the japanese main course dishes on themenuand they are ultra delicious. the teppanyaki live grill is the icing on the cake, to be able to see how they prepare the dish right in front of you as you sit there and eat is just.....great

visited this place last year and since then have been going here at least once or twice a month. why ? because this place suits for all kind of meet ups. you want to have a boy's night out, this place is good. you want to go out with family and friends for dinner, this place is perfect. you want to go out for lunch with kids, this place suits for that as well.
they have valet parking and on the main road so easy to spot. the ambience is nice and as name suggests, it is little dark. they have seating in basement if you have come with a big gang family and friends. ground floor is perfect for family and kids and 1st floor is for people who like to smoke and kids are not allowed. in short a perfect place for all occasions.

themenuis simple and elaborate. you have japanese, south asian, indian and continental. the best part is you get to see the chef's making sushi and other dishes live. another advantage of this place is the people who work here. you want to customize a dish, they are ready and give us all possible options. same with cocktails. you tell them how you like your drinks to be and it comes exactly the way you wanted.
their veg and non veg both have varities and tastes very good. i am a non vegetarian and others in my family are vegetarian so yet another reason to visit black orchid.
their mutton chukka, stir fried beef, satay, paneer dishes, lotus stem and cauliflower flower starters are simply superb. even main course has good options and the portion served is more than any resto bar. main course comes a whole meal where they serve paratha or rice along with your choice of protein. taste is bang on. never ate anything so far that didn't taste good.

music is perfect not very loud that you have to scream to talk to the person sitting next to you. the choice of songs are nice and mix of latest songs and old chartbusters of bryan adams and backstreet boys.

apart from all this, the kind of service you get is impressive. i have not seen the staff getting irritated or showing faces in spite of asking multiple customisation in the food. srinath has taken care of our table few times now. easy to communicate, always willing to help and ensures all of us are enjoying the food. feels like he understands us now so nice that before even we ask for water or repeat the drink or tissue, he is right there proactively to check if you need anything. srinath is always my go to person. i just have to tell him what i feel like drinking or what my daughter likes to eat and it gets served as you had imagined. i stopped seeing themenualso.
not only srinath, the person in-charge xavier and the people in valet all are extremely professional and top notch service.

i strongly recommend this place.

• your hunt for craft cocktails end here •

📍super approachable spot and a well traffic regulated locality with ample parking space to start with.

was scantily populated weekday evening, the entrance and interiors scream bespoke , elite.

the place has 2 levels with a sushi and teppanyaki on the entrance and cocktail 🍸🍹 lounge bar on the floor above.

the seating is spacious and comfortable with ambient lighting. there's courteous and helpful staff to light up the place better and help you with themenuif need be.

what i tried :
rooty salty🍹
a beautiful fresh aromatic infused vodka, with hints of tropical and citric flavors topped with salty foam !

breezy evening 🍸
a coconut 🥥 rum based cocktail 🍸 loaded with fragrant juices - feels soothing and melancholic.

spiced paneer skewers 🍢
no kidding, this paneer was good.

bbq chicken 🍗 wings -
straight forward bbq chicken wings - done right. this vanished within a minute !

overall the service was absolutely nice and the mixologist made the cocktails very well. it was was a great gastronomic experience with black orchid and ...
no they didn't pay me to tell this ! i actually loved the place and so did my friend !

i went to black orchid for their christmas dinner with my family. i’ve been there once before and the food was good, but tonight has changed my mind about the restaurant. the christmas dinner was a 4 course meal. some of us ordered the set meal and some of us ordered ala carte. we ordered the food at the same time. but by the time our first course arrived, the others were already at their main dishes. when our starters arrived, they were on dessert. i literally used a timer to measure the time between the 2nd and 3rd course, and it took 45 minutes. 45 minutes for a set menu, which usually comes faster than regular food due to it being structured. i don’t understand how the time between courses could be that long. 30 minutes for a salad to arrive, and another 30 minutes for the starters. by the time we reached our main course, the rest of the family was done eating. and to top it off, the wine that the food was supposed to be paired with consistently arrived much after the food had arrived. this meant that we could either wait for the food to get cold and wait for the wine, or eat the food and drink the wine without the food it was meant to be paired with. the whole experience was simply infuriating and extremely disappointing. a restaurant shouldn’t bother having a setmenuif they can’t deliver it in time or in the way it was meant to be served.
the only reason i’m not giving it 1 stars (i would give it 0 if i had the option) is because the quality of the food was actually pretty good. it was tasty. if you come here, just order the ala carte and don’t bother with any kind of setmenuthey gave. it will arrive much faster and will still taste good. i would still be wary of extremely poor service, because after tonight i don’t think i’ll ever be eating here again, and i will actively advise people i know to not eat here. a horrible experience overall.

was here to try their newly curated japanese menu. first thing first loved their ambience and the vibe and definitely goes into my list of resto bars with really good ambiance, especially the tappanyaki which is live the live cooking station.

we started off with yeshai salad which is kinda similar to the caesar salad but with a japanese crunch and twist to it and ordered a two mocktails , the grandma punch which is guava based mocktail and a highly recommended one and the second one was the cini stick mojito which is sugarcane based mojito which also tasted good. for starters we had the crispy california sushi which is well tucked with crab sticks , avocado, cucumber sticks and tanoki which all together went really well with soy sauce and the wasabi. chicken in teriyaki sauce is my personal favourite over and hands down to one of the best teriyaki chicken i've had in recent times, it is served along with a bowl of sticky rice or noodles but i'd recommend the noodles cuz even that tasted amazing. we also tried panko crumb fried prawns which had the perfect crisp on the outside with all the seasoning and the tender prawn meat on the inside.
we ended our meal with the brownie and the ice cream which comes along with their japanese set menu.

overall a really good restobar with a well curated japanese setmenuwhich teppayanki grill is definitely a thumbs up for me

food : 9/10

service : 9/10

ambience : 9/10

overall experience : 9/10

went here recently for lunch, this is a newly opened resto-bar in the city located near crown plaza.

the place is pretty big and you have parking facilities as well. the place has a very good ambience, just like any other top resto-bars in chennai. the place has 2 levels, ground floor and 1st floor. the first floor has the bar counter. the place is very comfortable

now coming to the food, tried the japanese setmenuwhich was priced around 800 rupees per person which includes a salad, sushi, teppanyaki main and the desert. they have both veg and non veg options so don't worry. the food is really nice and you will definitely love it. if you feel like japanese is just not for you, try this place and you will have second thoughts. its not authentic japanese but with a twist.

i also tried the mocktails over there and trust, they probably had one of the best mocktails i ever tired. it was extremely well curated. try their chilli guava and also lime sugarcane based mocktail, its just amazing.

do check this place out with your friends and you will really love it.

writing a review after months!! thanks to covid!
after such a long break, i decided to go out for a meal (off course i took all precautions). chose to visit black orchid to check out their set lunchmenuthat includes delicious sushi (after so many positive reviews). i should say i was not disappointed. loved the quick fresh salad. the california roll and kakiage maki were just yummy! for mains we had veggies toasted in garlic butter and chicken in teriyaki sauce along with sticky rice and noodles. loved every bit of it.
also very impressed by the hygienic environment they maintain and all the safety measure they have taken! felt safe dining here on the whole.

restaurant visit after so many months. food review after may be years. black orchid is a 3 floored luxury dining plus a resto bar sits just few metres away from boat club road. has a posh look, minimal yet attractive lighting, nice seating, ipl screening & the safety precautions like open kitchen, the staffs wearing masks, sanitising. full marks so far.

over to the food, they have a very limitedmenucoz of pandemic, but it's perfect for the drink dine set up. oak ratafia, a whisky + wine cocktail superbly set up the evening with it's perfect level of liqueur mix. we ordered 2 sushi's crispy california with crab stuffing was so good with a japenese mayo on the top of it. shrimp lover has a fried top portion which i felt didn't enhance the flavour much. beef teppanyaki was the best of the lot with it's super saucy little sweetish taste. meat was perfect too. chicken with butter garlic flavour could've been more punchy esp garlic & also much more saucier like the beef one.

in poultry & meat, the fish & chips with lemongrass & peri peri flavoured dip was nice, i felt the outer fried portion had a thick consistency. penne pasta when had with mushrooms, vegetables and chicken gave a nice tasty end to the satisfying meal.

i wish they expand the foodmenumore in coming days, at least the pizzas and the desserts. with few in house special cocktails, i think the barmenuis sufficient for a nice evening. there was a little delay in preparing the food but the management (subbu) was very kind to acknowledge that. special mention to the quantity of the food & their prizes, definitely a steal deal for such a lit place. they also have a 799 lunch meal.

all said and done, they have restarted their service after a long time and i have already experienced a perfect relaxed dinner after so long. thank you black orchid. wishes for the days to come.

was there last night, all the necessary safety norms have been taken care of perfectly. the place is done up so well, super spacious - has 3 floors - super posh and amazing seatings. they have kept themenureally limited due to the ongoing pandemic ! for starters we went two types of maki rolls - my all time favourite - crispy californian maki and the shrimp lover. both the rolls were perfect and presented very neatly. surprisingly i love the shrimp one more - the addition of mayo gave it a cheesy output, totally loved it. the addition of tanoki in crispy californian maki gave crackly and dry outer layer, which didn't work with me so well. then we had oak ratafia - oh ! it was a treat to both eyes and taste buds ! just too good, a must try drink when you are here ! from teppanyaki we had tenderloin with teriyaki sauce and chicken in butter garlic. i must say the staff really know theirmenuso well and they give the perfect recommendations ! the tenderloin was super tender and juicy - the sauce was lick worthy ! another must try dish. on the other hand the chicken dish lacked the punch of garlic !fish and chips was as usual a hit, the two dips went really well with the fries and fish ! for main course we went for penne pasta with chicken in parmesan cheese - this was again u er good - lots of yumm veggies, the sauce was super creamy and the pasta was cooked al dente just the way i love it ! would definitely recommend this place for the amazing service, food and drinks !

this new place that's opened up in ra puram is all set to change the food and drinks scene in chennai. they sit in pasumpon muthuramalingathevar road a few hundred metres away from crowne plaza on the ground floor. they've a great ambiance across three floors each of what's available for a private party if need be.
from the cocktail and alcohol menu, one would pretty much presume themenuis all about cheap alcohol poured over sugary drinks and over spicy food to complement. while the majority erstwhile restobars in the city have undoubtedly failed by proceeding with the above plan of action, here is one place that serves stunning food with even better cocktails.
i've never been a fan of drinking let alone expensive single malts and imported gins never amused me. when you could mix up a whiskey as simple as teachers into an amazing concoction pack them with so much flavour and smoked to bring them closest reminisce of an isla blend, then it's something worth talking about. the name is oak ratafia and if you're someone who is a whiskey purist and believe whiskeys lose their signature when put into a cocktail, you need to try this drink out.
well the bloggers table was mainly focussed on food, so my say on rest of the cocktails will be in future visits.
coming to the food, they have a well curated foodmenuconsisting of a pretty decent range of sushis, a good spread of sea food and a scrumptious north indian fare.
for starters we had the teppanyaki stir fried vegetables, bell peppers and paneer on the skewers sided with a bbq sauce that was lip smacking(paneer was a bit over done though) this isn't for the tikka lovers. the cassava rolls took my by surprise for the core had a very cheesy texture and sided with a simple mayo was stunning. lotus stem crisps somehow has earned its position in almost every restaurant these days and there, they would be my side of choice for the drinks any day. their signature is the sushis and it's a shame we only got to try the vegetarian variants. the greenland maki filled with veg and topped with a mango(ish) compote was far from a sushi yet a total stunner, thoroughly loved it. the starters is presumably the largest part of the menu, and i'd rather visit again to try the rest of the starters alone.

for main course, we stayed mostly indian with a paneer makhni served with paratha home style. a veg curry served with saffron rice was yet another plate that was too good with the buttery saffron and nevertheless the creamy curry. to add to the creaminess was a corn and pepper bake which was more of a just cream cheese baked with a bit of corn and peppers in the middle. if you've got a tooth for cheesy stuff you'd fall in love with them.
desserts perhaps is not neglected either. their signature cheesecake which was more of a layered cake with rich chocolate than a cheesecake. their chocolate in a jar rum was just rich chocolate that was ruined by rum (in my opinion). i love a good chocolate and a good rum, both of them together isn't my favourite. the comparatively lesser fancy lemon grass icecream was a stunner among the other desserts. a single scoop that i loved and licked the plate clean was probably all that's needed.

the place is new, well done and chic and serves stunning food and even better cocktails. their drinks is a usp for people who could differentiate between a good cocktail and a better cocktail. while it doesn't matter after a couple of drinks, if you have an eye for good stuff this is the place to head to.

black, beauty and buzz are perhaps the 3 keywords adorning this place. the colour black infuses royalty and a svelte like class about it that exhibits beauty in all it's aura and the buzz it creates is a sparkling spectacle. black orchid is a fine dining cum restobar restaurant located in a sprawling constructed property in r a puram.

the place is abuzz with flashy decor, blooming lights and crafty woodwork. it's a three storied massive structure with the basement allocated as a party hall, the ground portion consisting of a fine styling restaurant cum bar and the upper stair case portion leads you to a permit room where you can eat drink to your heart's content with easing lounge style music.

we were here on a weekday evening and the place instantly spiraled it's atmosphere as set foot inside. it is more of a casual dining outlet but they have brought in some interesting features to differentiate itself from the crowd. it brings japanese cuisine such as sushis and tepanayaki which gives itself a unique signature and apart from that you also have portions comprising of north indian cuisine, a bit of continental and also italian.

the appetizers form a major part of themenuand overall the food was very well curated and we had a ball of a time. we began our foray with a mixed veggies tapanayaki. this one was grilled well with a variety of veggies giving us a crunchy beginning to our proceedings. the grilled panneer with peppers served in the form of skewers were anazingly flavourful and went very well with a barbeque sauce which had a mild sweet tinge to it. the lotus stem starter was perhaps the best of the lot as it had everything going for it on the taste angle and it was jocularly good to polish them with the creamy mayo and soya accompaniment that came along with it. the cassawa rolls which resemble sweet potatoes also was very good with the chilli dip enhancing the flavours all the more. we also had to try a sushi considering it's their specialty and hence we attempted the greenland maki one. it was dressed up royally in yellow consisting of veggies interspersed inset.

on to the main course, the corn and pepper bake was excellent. it was extremely cheesy and coated up with a smoked baked dressing. it was overflowing with goodness and ended up being such a toothsome delight. the vegetables in curry with saffron pilaf also turned out to be a sure shot winner. the curry made in coconut cream was esculent and the saffron flavoured rice complemented it really well. apart from this we also tried a bit of indian with tawa paratha and panneer mutter masala. the gravy was rich and creamy and it was nice to consume with the indian breads.

the dessert section saw us having a crack at the black orchid cheesecake. it came with a fleck of gold foil and was very mushy and mellow consisting of a dense chocolate taste. it felt more like a rich mousse cake as cheesecake is normally associated with a biscuity crumb holding it which was missing in this case. the chocolate in a jar rum was also had and this concoction worked really well with the taste of rum being evident in each spoonful and the combo of rum & chocolate did indeed prove to be magical. another thing to note here is they have some really unique but limited ice cream choices. we went for the lemon grass and enjoyed every smack of it. the slithery hint of lemon grass was felt in every bite.

the service was fast paced and we got all our items in quick intervals of time. the staff were also friendly and provided some valuable suggestions helping us order the right stuff. the prices seem up market but competitive considering they are setting the bar high.

all in all, black orchid happens to be a fascinating new addition to both the restaurant as well as the pub scene. the ambiance is serene and the atmosphere is electrifying. there is a lot you can indulge here apart from taking a bunch of happy memories. can easily be classified as a fantastic option for food & drink.

i've been to this place twice now, and i found the food below average on both visits. except the sushi which in itself was average. i wouldve given them the benefit of the doubt being a new place, but on 2 visits my experience was consistent. the only thing i would come back for is probably the ambiance which is fantastic. if not for it, probably not.

we tried 3 types of sushi, 2 appetisers & 3 mains on our first visit
and 2 sushis, 3 appetizers, 3 main course & 2 dessert on our second visit. so it's safe to say i've tried a lot of stuff on theirmenuto say this.
