at a stripmall in burien?. sure, i'd love to try an authenic italian cuisine restaurant but at a stripmall in burien? who would have thought i'd find some of the best dishes and the coziest environs since my last trip to europe. my favorite plate (wait, speaking of plates, i loved the china; a discontinued pattern, i think) was pumpkin or squash-filled ravioli. years ago, on my first date with my husband, we had this as an appetizer at the pink door and this at least as delicate and subtly seasoned. and if you're looking for a no-frills marinara, spelled, "authentic",michaelv (can't spell the last name) has it down. i like the way the sauce becomes part of the pasta instead of something separate, like an ice cream sundae topping.
our server was knowledgeable about all the dishes and the wine list, which did not disappoint.
i will certainly return soon - the chef, owner, michaelv made the rounds and i felt as if i were his next-door neighbor instead of a patron. we ended our dinner not with a dessert, but flaming sambucco, with the traditional coffee beans. cozy, fun, tasty and a family feel; we'll be driving south to the stripmall in burien before too long.
