i ate there yesterday.  i ordered a b-ten burger that was $19.  it looked very good but it offered as much complexity as a quarter pounder from mcdonalds.  it lacked flavor, size and moisture and i simply felt ripped off. my partner had another burger, i forget which one and she said her bun didn't taste fresh.the chips that came with it were ok and the cider was just average... not a bad cider .. but also not a good cider.there are heaps more options in canberra if you want a better burger at a much better price.  i will not be going back there for food although i might try some of their other drinks.

your beer is good, i've always been to bentspoke for the beer. today i tried the burger, it was possibly the worst burger i have ever eaten in my life. and quite expensive too, for the taste and size. i'll stick to the beer next time.

canberra’s bentspoke brewing co. is a bustling gastropub that features beers brewed on-site in a range of styles and strengths. it’s a popular choice in the city and when i was there, a thursday night, it was busy, very busy. it’s located in braddon, an area that i have been reliably told is the cool, hip, hipster end of canberra.

atmosphere for the win. great little micro-brewery in braddon. cool vibes almost every night of the week. this is a bar/brewery and as such only sells gastro pub nibbles and snacks - so don't expect a restaurant. all in all the selection of nibbles we ordered was fresh and tasty. great beer and wine selection as well as a range of wonderful whiskey's. definitely see myself here again in the future.

beer abundant, food mia. arrived on a sunday after the australian running festival and was after some nibbles with our drinks. upon ordering was told that the selections we had made had run out, which was odd considering they are open till 12. shame as it ruined an otherwise excellent experience.

awful food! went out for sunday afternoon drinks and made the mistake of ordering food... the fried were ok but the spicey wings were inedible!! the cook had simply blended some chilli and a small amount of tomato, fried the chicken and purged it over. the taste was just of blended chilli, no seasoning.. when we complained the waitress was at first defensive, then admitted they had run out of the usual batch and had been forced to make an emergency batch! no refund. no apology!

disappointing. went for a lunch birthday celebration. drinks not too bad. the food was not good at all. i had the fish. it was dry and obviously not freshly cooked. could not eat it. others had the burgers which were also nothing flash. will not be returning.

maccas has better chips!. we ordered a couple of plates of the hop potatoes (hop and malt dusted chips with bbq or gfg chilli sauce).
so disapointing!
soggy shoestring chips. no salt. no flavour.
$9 per plate.

go thirsty, not hungry. i had visited this place once before for drinks and nibbles, and really quite liked it. the range of in-house brewed beers is very impressive, and craft beer lovers will be impressed.

when it was suggested that some friends and i meet there for dinner, i was all for it.

i called on the day to make a booking, and was told i wouldn't need to book - "just show up, you'll be right. the worst that will happen is you have to sit at the bar for a few minutes". well, we four turned up, and the place was packed. except for a few unoccupied tables that had 'reserved' signs on them. well played.

after standing around for a bit, then snagging a tiny table adequate only for holding beers, not food, we pounced on a table just as a group was leaving, before anyone else got to it. my momentary feeling akin to winning the showcase on the price is right was tempered by the realisation that this process would have been so much easier if the staff member on the phone earlier that day had cared to write my name, the number four and the time of our arrival in the book they obviously possess for such purposes.

finally seated, we got menus and placed our orders at the bar. i ordered the hot wings; my better half ordered the herbivore platter and we shared some chips.

my hot wings came out, and i can't dispute that they were, indeed, hot. they seemed to have simply slathered sambal oelek all over the wings. i love sambal, but it's an ingredient, not a sauce itself. for chili freaks reading this thinking someone needs to harden up before they order a hot dish, it wasn't that the sauce was too hot, it was that the trowelling on of the sambal made it impossible to taste anything else.

on reflection, though, this might have been a blessing in disguise.

my partner said that the cheese balls on her plate tasted off. she gave a bit to me to sample. all i tasted was the sambal from my seventh-circle-of-hell wings. we called the waiter over and told her the cheese tasted off. she went back to the kitchen without the food, then, with no-one else tasting or even smelling them, she declared they weren't. genius.

regarding the chips. when they arrived, we asked for some tomato sauce. behold, reader, this must be the only pub this side of the oort cloud that doesn't have tomato sauce for their chips.

it's almost worth visiting just to capture for yourself a sample of the incredulity we felt on numerous occasions throughout the evening.

after dinner, there were more beers on their menu i would have liked to try, but we couldn't wait to leave.

what a pity.

richard watkins and tracy margrain opened their own microbrewery and pub this year and fans of their beers rejoiced.

on arrival, my friends an i were shown bent spoke’s impressive tap, with space for 18 brews. they only had six when we went, but we were promised that more will come. given it was our first visit, the bartender happily talked us through the different beers on offer, giving us sample glasses of those we were interested in before we ordered. i was lured by adam’s cider, although the dick tracey (described as the closest thing to a golden ale available) was a close second.

do your self a favour and go there. ciders, pork ribs, beer icecream. sounds odd but trust me, just do it. delicious, friendly, preservative free.

decent beer, good salad. despite some beardy hesitations, i was impressed by this microbrewery in braddon. the gooseneck and cluster8 were my beers of choice, the pumpkin, spinach and goats cheese salad was big, tasty and not pretentious. other meals observed looked right for the inner city price. staff friendly and beardy hipster clientele were pleasant and/or self absorbed enough not to get in the way of some quality beers n food
