basil cafe

we have lived in appleton for 19-20 years.  we have several places we enjoy that are locally owned.  those type of restaurants are our faviorites. we've heard how fantastic thisplacewas and finally just this recent january went for dinner.  wow, we were so impressed, we have been there now another 5 times.  the service is awesome, everyone is so nice.  regardless of what you ask for they accommodate.  the food, out of this world, so fresh.  we especially enjoy the mixed vegetables in peanut sauce with chicken and the pad thai with any of the meats.  love the colors and decorations of the restuarant.  they also have a wine selection that goes well with the food as low at $5 a glass.

love thisplacefood is just one of the best in town! staff is friendly and food is really really good! i would totally recommend this place! for sure will be visiting again!

basil café an hidden gem!. my husband and i have dined at basil café for over two years now. we even have driven over 30 miles just for take-out (crazy, i know).

authentic + very tasty + very good prices + friendly staff + always fresh food + always smiling.

some of my favorites are the:
* vietnamese spring rolls
* tom yum soup, spicy & tangy tamarind-chicken based broth with lemongrass, galangal, kaffir leaves, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, and onions. delicious! (spice level can be adjusted). tip: a bowl will serve 2-3 people.
* basil fried rice with chicken is the best stir-fried rice i have ever had. you can add in mixed vegetables, tofu, chicken, beef, pork, or shrimp.
* pad thai stir-fried thin rice noodles in the house tamarind sauce, with eggs, bean sprouts, chives, and roasted peanuts; with a choice of mixed vegetables, tofu, chicken, beef, pork, or shrimp.
* phó ga vietnamese chicken noodle soup, slow boiled over hours, daily, before served.

best restaurant in appleton, wi. basil café is so good in so many ways. the restaurant is clean, comfortable, and inviting. the staff is super friendly and the take-out service is fantastic. now, the food. it is delicious beyond words. you can tell that the food is fresh and is cooked to perfection. the sauces do not taste like they are high in sodium however provide an explosion of flavor. i happen to like my food spicy, and basil café certainly accommodates that. generally, when you eat at other restaurants with similar menu items, you leave feeling like you ate unhealthy food. that's certainly not the case at basil café. my favorite dish is the spicy basil with chicken and shrimp at a 3 spice level. all in all, i'd be devastated if thisplaceever closed!

um wow. thisplaceis just great. there curry is the best in the valley. the green and red curry are delicious and even better is the curry located under the red and green curry on the menu (i forgot the name) but wow was it good. and must go to restraunt.

lets just say i wish thisplacewas open 24/7... everything is perfect from the service to the cleanliness to the food quality and the food taste.

much better than expected. we've driven by many times and finally stopped...i thought it was going to be a "dive", with hopefully nice food. i was shocked at the lovely ambiance after the confusing entry doors and humdrum outside. inside is warm and spacious. the waitstaff was excellent, extremely friendly and the waitstaff knows the menu! i loved that my waitress told me which dishes were her favorite and really took time to describe a few dishes that i was interested in. i honestly was attracted to most of the entrees. we decided to try dishes we're familiar with, so that we'd have a basis of comparison. the little eggrolls are tightly wrapped and very tasty, obviously not those nasty things at the buffets. we ordered cups of soup for just $2!!! you must try the tom yum, it was our favorite, absolutely delicious. i'll probably get a bowl of it next time. we had pad thai, which was excellent...not the best i've ever had, but probably the best i've had in appleton. my husband ordered a pork chop which was disappointingly small, even for the reasonable $10 entree, but it was very tasty, even though it looked like it was going to be like shoe leather. he probably won't order that again, because he's a big eater, but if you are a light eater, that is a tasty, simple dish. for dessert, we tried the sticky rice with mango...sweet and delicious. if you've never had it, it can taste a bit "gummy", but it's rich and flavorful, i would order it again. lovely newplacefor appleton, i already want to go back tomorrow already!

thisplaceis great. it may not look like much from the outside, but don't let that discourage you. the owners have transformed the dumpy old sammy's pizza into a tasteful and elegant new restaurant. the food was delicious, especially the vietnamese crepes which i had never had before. service was attentive and very professional. really happy to have a nicer looking thai restaurant that isn't so expensive. will definitely be returning in the future.

i was routinely impressed with basil café’s culinary attention to detail that really helped make everything on the menu better, and all of this for very reasonable prices ($9-10 entrees are common). i am already excited about the next time i eat at basil café. though they may not have actually named theplaceafter my dog, there is now another reason i love basil.
