the food, atmosphere andserviceat barocco was wonderful. the menu doesn't have a specific theme - there's bits of italian, spanish, and french. for an appetizer we had the burrata and san marzano tomato tartelette, which was delicious. for mains we had the tagliatelle and the seafood paella. both dishes were great, the paella lots of fresh seafood. for dessert we tried the creme brûlée - it was wonderful. theservicewas also amazing throughout the night. the atmosphere is very cozy - perfect for an intimate dinner. it was a great experience from start to finish.

good food, greatservice!. my family and i made reservations at barroco to celebrate my birthday. we all love seafood, and knew that they served a killer paella, so the decision was easy.
as soon as you arrive, you notice a really cozy, almost country-like decor, low lighting and good music. then we were greeted by our waiter, ayouba. he walked us through the drinks menu, and we were already sharing laughs; we knew it was going to be a fun night.
throughout the service, ayouba recommended wonderful dishes and equally appealing wine pairings. the restaurant was packed, but we were tented to as though we were alone.
when our main, the paella, arrived, we were slightly disappointed to see it served in a deep french oven style pot, rather than the conventional paella dish... but it was tasty nevertheless and we all enjoyed the addition of black truffle shavings, recommended by the chef.
then came dessert (the goat cheesecake, and fruit gratin with sabayon were delicious!), and the dinner was completed -- topped off by -- complementary shots of cubano rum; which we had the privilege of taking in company of our wonderful waiter.
summed up, we all left barroco with a huge smile on our faces, and extremely satisfied with our experience ! needless to say that this restaurant is highly recommended for a fun night out in old montreal, with good food, drink, and atmosphere. we will certainly be returning.
thank you to all the staff, especially ayouba, for a wonderful night.

i went to eat there on sunday. the ambiance very cosy and romantic. there is not too many seats.
it was not busy , a few tables, got seated right away. the special was explained to us when asked.
we ordered a deconstructed nicoise to share. it was very salty though the albacore (white tuna) was perfectly cooked as well as the other ingredients on the plate. as main we had the ribsteak with chimichurri and seafood paella.
the seafood paella tasted greated but unfortunately the scallop was not fresh!! very disappointed!
as for the ribsteak, we asked for it to be medium rare! when it came, the steak was cold!!!! how can a steak be cold? it was cooked rare to blue!!
it was sent back to the kitchen. during that wait, our waiter completely ignored us!!! didnt even come to the table to apologize! got a new steak by the barmaid, it was medium rare! but our waiter was still avoiding us!
what kind ofserviceis that! seriously? matter of fact, ive never been to a restaurant where theservicewas that mediocre! came to us at the end and gave us two glasses of digestif on the house, and his words were" offer par la maison" . still didnt apologize not even asked if we had a good night though the steak was not well prepared! come on!
dont think ill go back!

spare-ribs. last night in old montreal, we had a wonderful dinner at barroco. the staff was very friendly, servicewas attentive, and we sat at the bar and had specialty cocktails from melody-basil cucumber mojitos to our dessert expresso martinis! we started
with oysters- the best we have ever had! the delicious bread basket accompanied with homemade butter made with cilantro, shallots, paprika, garlic and cumin was delicious! our dinner at barroco was the best dinner i have had in montreal and this is our third trip! we started with the grilled octopus appetizer made with chorizo and red pepper sauce over a delicate bell lettuce salad. my entree was the amazing spicy paella with pieces of chorizo, lobster, prawn, shrimp and scallops prepared to perfection-so much i had to share some with my husband! my husband had the special seafood platter- delicious! if you travel to montreal, barroco is a restaurant to place at the top of your list!

the portugese word barroco , from which the word baroque derives, translates to a "rough or imperfect pearl." if applied literally to the interior of this old montreal restaurant - where a bold mix of perfectly carved, opulent accents contrast against the raw stone and authentic wooden beams of the space - one sees that the etymology of the word (and name) are, in fact, quite fitting. barroco, which opened its doors in october 2008, was one of those restaurants that happened about success so naturally, you would have thought it was always there. this cozy destination (think the tudors; if the young king henry viii were still frolicking about today, he would be doing so here) provides warm, friendlyserviceand fantastic cocktails to the fashion-forward set, and is one of the first places i tend to recommend to friends who haven't been back to montreal for a few years. the food is served on antique tableware and has a rustic, home-cooked quality that is as comforting as it is authentic.

the ambiance at this place is fantastic. very cozy and warm feel to the place.servicewas great. what impressed me the most, however, was the music. stevie wonder, jay-z, journey, cam'ron all in the same mix. outstanding. best dinner music i've ever sat through. what i disliked most about barroco: the food. really nothing special. the waiter mentioned their specialty was short ribs, so naturally, that's what i had. they were tender, but lacking flavor. not impressed. if that's their signature dish, i'm honestly worried about the other items on the menu. however, i would go back to this place for the atmosphere (especially the music) alone.
