superb traditional northern kerala restaurant in the heart of uae .
the restaurant is ornately decorated.
the service is really pleasant, fast and excellent even though they are busy with over crowd and lack of staff which i had feel .
the ingredients are fresh, and the food is authentic and good .but miss salt and garnish .
it gets really busy so you definitely need to reserve a table which i had done .

amazing and authentic food. if you want real keralite cuisine..this is a definitely must go place. especially beef roast and mango fish curry. actually everything we tried, mussels fry, squid roast, chicken 65..everything was amazing

service is very poor. we give order to one staff and then after 10 minutes another one comes to take the order. they even have no idea what they have already served.

the price to quantity can not be justified as the price is too high.

amazing food which is of excellent quality and authentic too... the service is excellent and a special thanks goes to ms. aamy who provided us the best service which i have not experienced at any other restaurant. the chef shajith has provided the best food in town. amazing...please keep up the great effort. the dishes were all good, the seafood platter was simply amazing. even all chicken dishes were awesome. due to hunger didn't get time to take pictures of the food. will surely come back again for sure.

services is very poor and the best of this is that they are aware and they can't even manage it.. basics like giving the glasses for water was also not there.

this is not related to food or ambience. this is to let all foodies know that you have to reserve table on fridays/saturdays if you wanna go there. its so bad of the restaurant for not mentioning it either in google or in zomato. also they will not show any courtesy to see any possibility to get a table if we are ready to wait for sometime. ofcourse we all know its corona time, but you can have some courtesy to talk and check the possibilities as the rule of entry through only reservation is not published anywhere.

we were told they do not have table available for us as they are fully reserved way beyond dinner infact till 1 am ( we had gone for lunch by the way ).
we had a talk with the manager and they gave us a table finally , to our surprise many tables were free in the dining area , don’t know what stopped them from letting us in .

the staffs were unappealing and weren’t pleasant at all, seems they were working out of compulsion.

the food was received an hour after the orders were taking , ofcourse cold as ice .
even a drought of beer which was placed at the time we got there was delayed for 20 mins , just coz the waiter’s were busy and inattentive.

overall experience : pls don’t waste your time driving all the way far to have an experience in this restaurant as there are plenty of restaurants in dubai and sharjah which was far more food quality and service than backwaters .

our first time as a family. we were needing it to better than our home cooking and we also wanted to have it a bit different. not asking for much then!!
all 4 of us loved it and we genuinely gave it 10 out of 10 for the truly authentic kerala hospitality in service and food ...
would be go again? 100% .
its on our list to be our "go to" restaurant anytime we want an kerala meal whilst in uae .
our best ever rating for an indian restaurant.

"thugs of the pearl" is the name i would give give to describe my latest interaction at backwaters.
1. poor management of guests: the crowd was beyond control and was spilling over in the resort making all the guests at the resort very very uncomfortable. (i was one of them)
2. deceptive practice: the marketed "toddy festival" was a great tactic to attract customers and they did get them in the hundreds... but they were out of toddy. 117 cases of toddy to be exact was over. while that happened the night before, the banners mentioning the festival was not taken down. i wanted toddy too and had booked a stay at the resort for the same, was told that the new stock would take approximately a month before it comes. the next day, the lies from the staff didn't stop neither did the guests.
3. incompetent service: waiters who don't know what's available in the kitchen and chefs taking orders are a bad bad mixture. not only did we receive our food late, but were left with the options of "eat what is there" and "sorry, but the food is not available". this is the treatment for us, the in-house guests.
the resort staff did all they could to take away the excess customers from invading our rooms( they were in our patio, and by the pool, dipping their dirty shoes in it, messing our tables with cigarettes buds and used tissues). i cannot blame the guests as well, coz they were cheated by the restaurant.
utterly disgusted with the experience.

freshness can be felt in this amazing food. food is not very spicy and not overloaded with masalas. service could be improved a bit especially by being a bit flexible

this place is mind blowing, the beach and the seafood platter along with the paal kappa is that one i always come here for. oh my, that paal kappa aka tapioca cooked in coconut milk topped fish masala cooked in banana leaf is a must must must try. heaven on earth is what this place is all about. their clay chicken was also a highlight in their menu.

total disappointment.. went around 7 pm on last friday.. when order was given the response was like “chef is busy .. so it will take at-least 10pm to serve the food” ... really frustrating .. just tried toddy ... poor quality..

missing kerala toddy? no issues. now you just need to travel to umm al quawain to get a drink.

backwaters restaurant in pearl beach hotel is the answer to all our prayers for the exotic dishes, like pallu kappa and panam kallu, that are only available back home.

the place also serves a good variety of seafood and has a view looking out to the ocean.

very romantic❤️

so let’s go umm al quawain!
