my favorite seafood restaurant in hampton roads so far`. making the trip down to the southside is always a pain for me, but aw shucks is worth it. i tried raw oysters for the first time here and they were delicious. i've also had the ahi tuna and the mussels capellini here before and both dishes were excellent. i posted the photos here along with the mixed seafood platter my friend ordered.

the restaurant is relatively small and not very impressive from the outside in all honestly (like a lot of awesome hole-in-the-wall establishments in ghent) but the food more than makes up for it. their beer selection is great too and i highly recommend this place to anybody who wants a unique seafood experience.

consistently good. come early or late or you'll have to wait. oysters are delicious. be careful on all--you-can eat crab night; they told us they were out, but yet i could still pay full price for a single plate. when they make a mistake or out of something, they don't offer any kind of compensatory gesture (e.g., a free side, or drink, etc.). good portion size. fun atmosphere. bar can get a bit loud. drinks aren't the weakest around, but they aren't strong either.

simply excellent. great beer selection from ane xtensive list, good happy hours specials, fantastic oysters, and very knowledgeable wait staff. the soft shell crab is great, and of course any oysters, raw or fried. the sides are also excellent. i love the spinach. the go-to place for seafood in norfolk.

i like beer!. and they have a "stout" selection (hehe)...

the waitstaff was very helpful with choosing my beer. she asked me many questions as to what other beers i liked and she brought me over 4 different beers for me to try. she went above and beyond (big tip!)

have not tried their food, but if it's anything like the beer they serve i should be good to go!

its a dive. you would never be tempted by the outward appearance, but this dive bar is definitely worth it! the monday night crab legs are awesome and the service is great!

went here for a late night burger and beer, and was very impressed.  they've got great craft beer on the menu and the burger melted in my mouth.

i seen pics of this restaurant and didn't read reviews. i got the catfish, was good and mac and cheese. mac and cheese was great.. also got the shrimp po boy, shrimp had to much breading. fried tomatoes not that good. the services was pretty good.

super casual place, set back from the street, so i almost missed it! but, great drink selections and the raw bar menu you can also get steamed too! so good and reasonably priced!

i came here to try local crab legs & it was not really outstanding. the restaurant didn't look very clean or appealing. every food was over salted, even the soup. the crab legs were great even though they were salty. i ordered a cheesecake which was evidently homemade, the crust was soggy and the top of the cake was baked, which was evidence of a failed water bath & over cooking. it was a very pricey restaurant for what it offered. i would not recommend this restaurant.

another one of my faithfuls, but slowly declining. food was subpar to say the least but the drinks were horrible. i was entertaining family and it was embarrassing.

fabulous food of every type along with several excellent choices of seafood and also a large beer selection.  both service and food are excellent and consistent.  have been here several times and am never disappointed.  people come dressed to the hilt or casual and they are all comfortable including children.  home of one of my favorite comfort foods--oyster stew.  no one makes it better than a.w. shucks!

my favorite restaurant to go to in the 7 cities. the shrimp & grits are the best...well everything is the best. the waiter who resembles shaggy from scooby-doo is the dopest...basically, go here.

first visit to this raw bar. my first visit this pass saturday. the atmosphere and service was very good and warm. the food was outstanding and i recommend everyone to visit this best secret of norfolk. nice get away and good drinks. wow... i was impressed and plain to visit again this weekend.

not bad but pricey!. staff is great, beer is cold and plentiful. downside is you pay a lot more for more mediocre seafood than you would get somewhere else. its a sham because the bar atmosphere and raw oyster bar are cool and the staff really is outstanding. throw something original on the menu and more fresh and lite seafood and shucks would be money!

i am so disappointed. we have been to aw shucks before, and the food is great. tonight we were really craving seafood and after waiting an hour (when we were told 20-30 minutes), we were told there was a problem and no one could be seated. she wasn't even apologetic, and unleashed a crowd on ghent at 8 pm on a sunday. terrible service!
