a.w. shucks raw bar and grill

love it!. i absolutely love this place.. they have the best stuffed jalapenos - i usually get them every time i dine here. the mac and cheese is great as well!!.. basically everything about this place is awesome.

ive been to a.w. shucks several times and in my opinion they have a solid menu with good food. but i have never had good service there, my wife and i love sitting at the bar and we just cant find a good bartender in place. went yesterday and the young lady got my entrée wrong so she took the meat and left the sides for me to eat rather than serving me a new meal. my meat came 20 minutes later. unfortunately it was my birthday and sort of killed my experience

i enjoyed eating here. although their menu states that they do not do any substitutions on their combinations but since i do not eat oysters or red meat i was very thankful that they were willing to accommodate me and allow me to sub for fish. the establishment is a nice setting and i can and would recommend this restaurant.

frozen seafood. i came here after living in norfolk for a year just for some seafood-i orded the steamed combo platter with crab legs, mussels, clams, etc. the seafood tasted like old freezer, really not worth it. i had a bloody mary that was mediocre at best. i did enjoy the patio but would probably get a burger next time if i had to. i still prefer chix oyster bar for fresh seafood-10x better than this place.

it was incredible! we went for brunch, service was great, atmosphere was perfect, and the food was too die for!!
the mac n cheese was the best and even though i normally loathe sausage gravy their's is off the hook!!

one of the best in ghent. the other reviews say it all.

small tip: if you are traveling and looking for a healthy meal here order the fish and chips, except broiled with alternative sides. it's the perfect amount (i'm a 165 lb male) and tastes like a home meal.

bad experience. not only were there still tails on the shrimp inside the stuffed jalapeños but there were bones in my friends market price fish and crab special. i had the mahi which was delicious aside from the random(probably bone) hard thing i bit into that straight up messed up one of my teeth. our waitress was snobby and when we asked for rang and water they forgot and we had to re-ask 20 mins later. one and one of the appetizer plates they gave us was dirty. very disappointed.

great variety, great food.. ayce crab legs on monday eves are da bomb! great place to dine. favorites are the crab & vegetable soup and the mac and cheese. good selection of craft beers, too!

amazing and very informative servers, great drinks. a little pricey, but what quality seafood isn't?

wonderful restaurant with local character, great microbrew selection, and fresh fresh fish. if you are looking for a nice place to have seafood - more than just fried options, then this place is a no-brainier. if i lived it town i would be a regular.

so last night......... ok, after careful consideration i must say.....my previous critique has to be retracted. my husband, myself and a couple friends of ours came to have a late dinner (on a saturday at 8 pm) we had no problem getting in and were seated right away. i have a long standing love affair with oysters and was craving some. this is definitely the place to come for fresh oysters, they are excellent here. i also enjoyed an oyster po boy with a side of collard greens, the sandwich roll was the only thing i didn't care for too much. my husband had catfish with rice pilaf and mixed veggies he exclaimed happily over all of it. our friends ejoyed their meals of the fish platter and shrimp platter as well. cocktails were the bomb! just be sure to avoid the dinner rush so you don't wind up waiting long.

aw shucks needs to rethink.... if you wish to make reservations at this establishment you must have a party of 5 or more...that is ludicrous, since this place almost always has a 2 hr. wait. i've had better seafood.

good lunch. i loved this tucked away, seafood/bar focused establishment. i was pleasantly surprised with the service and food that came from this little building with nautical ambiance. i enjoyed there baked flounder accompanied by red bud potatoes and green beans. i was joined with my cousin, who enjoyed there ole' bay wings with a side of broccoli. we were honored to have great company of gentlemen that were definitely regulars at the table beside us. it was refreshing to know that staff knew them by name and they too knew the staff by name.
i recommend that you visit a.w. shucks the first opportunity you have. you will not regret it!

good but not worth the prices. went here with the family a week ago and we had a nice meal but it's way over priced. the fried calamari was good but the portion was for one person not for the three of us to share and their oysters are $20.00 a dozen???!?!?? even local oysters are wicked expensive. the crab cakes i had were really good and my husbands greek salad with tuna was good and a large portion and our daughter had a hamburger with was cooked perfectly. i guess we might go back again but not for oysters!!!

always crowded... a good sign?. every time i'm craving shucks, i get there and there's a two hour wait :( but the times i have actually gotten there without a long wait i've really enjoyed. my fiance is in love with their mac & cheese, so he always gets it as a side. always. i usually get either greek or caesar salad with seared tuna on top. the tuna is always fresh and well prepared. i also like the grilled tuna sandwich or crabcake sandwich. i don't care for raw oysters, but friends have told me shucks has good ones. and they have a pretty decent drink menu too. i'd recommend going there either at a random time during the week (not 7pm on a friday or saturday) and/or go when you have some time to spare because there's usually a wait, but it's always been worth the wait in my opinion.

i went recently with a few people and seriously loved everything we tried... shrimp and gritts were a delicious and modern twist to the original bowl of gritts with shrimp on top. the shrimp po boy was awesome as was the broiled crab cake...i am usually pretty picky but left really satisfied! well done :)
