art of pizza

toasted ravioli is pretty standard. caesar salad is super garlicky! pizza is awesome. the food isn't the one with issues though. waited about five minutes before anyone came out to seat us. the cook came out and, very rudely, told us to sit down if we weren't getting carry out. five more minutes went by, gave drink orders, including water. drinks were delivered but no water, had to ask for it. had to ask to order. had to ask for ranch dressing, twice. had to ask for more wine, the check, and a box. half way through the meal a short woman with tattoos walks in and condescendingly asks the swamped server (who is bussing tables, seating people, taking orders, running food) is the patio has been set up. the server says no. the lady throws her hands up in the air and storms out. if i were that server i'd tell that lady to set the patio herself. when you're in front of paying guests, that behavior is unacceptable. final verdict: mismanaged but great food, get carry out.

the jewel of pizza in the heart of downtown. the art of pizza has given my husband and i a taste of home! we are from ct, right outside nyc, and having lived in kc for several years we have never had anything come close to the pizza from back home, till now! if you are going for the first time you need to get a cheese pie well done (so it's a little crispy) and get an order of garlic knots. it's a little more than we would spend on a pie back home but they are bringing the ingredients in from out there, so whats a few more bucks! =) you will not be disappointed!!!
my husband and i consider ourselves to be pizza connoisseurs, if you would, and have tasted pizza from italy and famous pizza joints in nyc and ct (pepe's, johnny's, etc.), this joint fits in well with the rest of east coast pizza.
try it...

went here for the first time recently and was pleasantly surprised. the atmosphere is very relaxed and my calzone was delicious! the waitress was super nice and the chef/owner even came out to see how our food was. i'll definitely be returning to try more items on their menu. oh, and their chocolate cake is divine!

the art of pizza is among the top 3 most renowned deep dish restaurants in chicago (giordano's and lou malnati's are the other two). in my opinion, giordano's and lou malnati's have the better pizza. the art of pizza also has great pizza though. they serve deep dish by the slice so you don't need to always order a huge pizza. it's cheap and the food is great. i ordered a margarita and a pepperoni slice and both the slices were incredibly cheesy and satisfying.

their chicago deep dish pizza is sooo delicious and very well baked. not on the dry or sloppy side, just perfectly done. pizza crust is baked to perfection. eight of us could not finish the deep dish pizza. we also had thin crust vegetarian pizza. we ordered before going and was ready at the time given. very good and fast service.

i stopped here for some lunch before my flight and immediately found a seat at the bar. beverage service was quick, but it took a while to order food. the place was busy, but they had at least 3 people working behind the bar. the food came quickly and was good (tilapia tacos). i ordered another drink and dessert right after i found out my flight was delayed. i began talking to the gentleman sitting next to me (who was also ordering food). we ended up ordering 2 more drinks each (after another flight delay notification). when the bartender asked if we needed anything else and we said 'no', we were immediately asked to leave because they had people waiting. we both had some of our drink left. i was appalled, as was my new friend. yes, we had been there a while. however, we were ordering food/drinks (aka spending money). it's not like we were sitting around just taking up real estate. it was a good experience up until then. i won't be back.

i did a little research before planning a trip to chicago and quickly realized this was the place to go. we arrived into town a little later than expected and so we were hungry and not wanting to endure the typical 45 minute deep dish pizza bake, but still wanting the authentic experience. fortunately for us, art of pizza sells chicago style by the slice and for only about $4.00 per slice. we ended up only getting one slice each and felt perfectly full afterwards. really tasty stuff! also, we did not have to wait in line at all to order, which i hear is not the case at many of the more well known establishments. the only thing i wish is that our pizza would have been a little hotter, but i'm sure it would have been perfect had we decided to wait for it to come straight out of the oven. if you're staying anywhere near lakeview, add this place to your list.

we went during first friday, so we expected a wait. we were told to wait outside by the hostess for fire safety reasons, which was perfectly fine with us. but then she continued to seat people ahead of us. irritating that with this big of a crowd they didn't keep a list, but it was busy and not a huge deal. our pizza came without one of the toppings (only pineapple and jalapenos - missing pepperoni) and the server told us that she wouldn't charge us for the toppings. when we told her that we would like them to redo the pizza, she tried to convince us that we can keep the same pizza and just add the pepperoni on top. we told her no, that we wanted the pizza that we ordered because just adding pepperoni and reheating the pizza does not taste the same. 1 1/2 hours later from when we arrived, we finally received the correct pizza, we asked to speak with the owner. the server came back and let us know that the owner wouldn't speak to us. an owner refusing to speak with customers (who keep their composure the whole time during a bad dining experience) speaks a lot about a person's character and establishment.

oh man. i can never choose between pequod's and this place for best pizza in chicago. it's probably determined by whichever place i went to last.

forget all those people talking about giordano's, lou malnati's, and whatever other place they claim to have the best chicago style pizza in the city. they're wrong. i'm sorry. you have the right to your opinion, but i probably won't really pay attention if you're listing those places before art of pizza or pequod's. even more so if you're making those statements without having been to either one.

eat a special or meaty delight from here and then get back to me.

delivery or carry-out recommended as opposed to the individual slices available, unless you're going there for lunch. then eat whatever and walk away happy.

best pizza in the city! i like the pan best, but my wife loves the thin crust which is really good too. we often get a salad with which ever we order. make sure you tell them what soda you would like when you order, or you could get a two liter that you wouldn't drink.

my favorite deep dish/stuffed pizza in chicago, and i've had them all. i prefer ordering an entire pizza to either eat-in or deliver/carry-out because sometimes the slices they have sitting there don't taste as fresh.

never again.. i've always enjoyed pizza from here but after today, i'll never order from here again. i ordered a large stuffed meaty pizza and was delivered a pan pizza. upon calling in, i was told i could receive a credit for my inconvenience - i'm sorry, i'm not going to pay for something i didn't order. i called back and asked to speak to the manager who provided no support whatsoever. i was informed he couldn't do anything because they were too busy and if i wanted my money back, i'd have to go through my credit card company. simply put, the art of pizza lost a long time customer tonight as i'll never order from here again.

the pizza was fine but nothing extraordinary. the service, however, was absolutely horrible. they don't serve slices of pizza after a specific time and i did not see this advertised anywhere.

next, make sure you steer clear of their "black market" toppings... an extra $3.00 for jalapeños!

third, our poor waitress was clueless and very unhelpful. she got all of our orders confused with each other and could not answer any of our questions regarding the preparation of the food.

next, the cook felt the need to yell at our table from across the room and tell us that we were serving our pizza wrong (yes, we had to serve the slices ourselves).

lastly, for a pizza that's half veggie and half "meataholic," our total was over $40!

i couldn't believe how absolutely horrible my experience was at a locally owned and ran pizza joint. i will never be returning. the mediocre food is not worth how horrible you will be treated and how much they will overcharge you.

instead, try pizzabella across the street or just wait in the long line at grinders.

unlike most pizzerias in chicago, art of pizza offers a stuffed pizza. so there's the thin crusts, deep dishes, neapolitans... and then there's the stuffed pizza (not to be confused with a stuffed crust pizza). basically, stuffed pizzas are a deep dish pizza but there is a slight difference. the cheese and
