alpine haus restaurant

my mom was born and raised in san antonio and i came to visit. one day i told her lets go to new braunfels to have german food and she said there were some "just ok" restaurants. i came on urban spoon and found alpine haus and saw the great reviews...wow! we loved this place!! i was glad one reviewer said it was hard to find because we drove right past it. the sign out on the road is tiny!! but it's worth driving around to find it. it's a cute old white house set off the street behind another building across from the faust hotel. when we walked in we were greeted by a sweet gentleman and felt like we were being welcomed into someone's home. it's small and cozy with a great german atmosphere. the staff is very attentive, polite and obviously want to make this restaurant succeed. we ordered the brie with ham and it was to die for!! then i had the sausage platter which comes with amazing authentic german potato salad and either red cabbage (so sweet and yummy!) or sauerkraut which was also very good. my mom ordered the sauerbraten with spatzel and i snuck a bite...holy cow!!! the meat was so tender and flavorful and the sauce was rich and meaty. just perfection! a bottle of wine and dessert topped it off. i had the alpine delight which is chocolate mouse and cream heaven and my mom had apple struedel. she said it was better food than she ever had in germany and the whole experience really brought her back to her texan-german roots. my dad lived in germany several times and she is so excited to take him there! two days after we haddinnerthere we decided to go back! this time we decided not to overstuff ourselves! when we walked in the gentleman who greeted us remembered us. we wanted to eat outside since it was a nice sunny but breezy day and he had no problem with that even though they weren't really set up for it. we just ordered the brie and wine this time (a yummy, sweet but yet light reisling) and enjoyed the great service. the staff asked us our opinion about the restaurant and was very interested in our opinions and suggestions. oh they also had live german music on friday evening. soooo cute!! we love, love, love this restaurant and hope they do well. my family will definitely become regulars here and any time i come back to town we will make sure to eat here.

best german lunch ever. new braunfels has a reputation of having authentic german food so i went in with high expectations and wasn't disappointed in the least. we dined for lunch so their menu may have been slightly smaller than atdinnerbut their were too many tempting choices already. after careful consideration my husband had the daily lunch special some sort of german meatloaf with fried potatoes and sauerkraut and a beer while i had the pork wiener schnitzel with spatzel and red cabbage. for dessert we shared a piece of black forest cake. the food was outstanding homemade with lots of love which came through with every bite.

my new favorite!. i can't say enough about the wonderful experience we had at alpine haus over the weekend. beginning with the initial greeting we received from the host, to the exceptional service we received from our server, and the outstanding quality of the food, this is the best restaurant i have been to in a long time.

we started with the fried brie cheese garnished with black forest ham (don’t overlook the jam on the side!). the salad that came with the meal had a wonderful house dressing and mydinnerof wiener schnitzel with fried potatoes and red cabbage was amazing. we will definitely be back! many thanks to alpine haus team for a most enjoyable evening.

user reviews. we stopped in last night and wished we had done it sooner. considering all the other choices for german food in new braunfels, there is the only choice. the word is spreading so make a reservation and bring an appetite. you don't want to miss out on these dishes. mydinnerof salad, zigeuner schnitzel, spätzle, and red cabbage was very good. don't forget to try the alpine delight for desert. (everything is made fresh daily, so yes, some things sell out, but that's ok, gives you a chance to try something else.) try not to compare 'german' food prepared in this country, with that prepared in germany. the ingredients and the meat regulations in the us are very different than overseas. compare this to other german restaurants, and for me, a native german, the alpine haus, is the best in the new braunfels area. not one person in our group had a negative comment. everyone left happy.

i swear oma is in the kitchen cooking! i have lived in germany for many years and i can tell you the food here really took me back. great atmosphere and wonderful food. call fordinnerreservations as they have limited seating.

a german restaurant owned and run by germans! i brought my family here for lunch, and everyone loved their food, even my son the "picky eater". seriously, the sausage were terrific, the schnitzel lightly breaded and flavorful, and the black forest ham and asparagus rolls were fresh and delicious. we topped it all off with a fresh apple streudel...wonderbar! i want to come back fordinnerand try the rouladen, and a cold warsteiner.

took my fiance there for a surprise romantic dinner. started off with red wine and fresh bread. fordinnershe had the schweinebraten and i had the sauerbraten. excellent!dinnersalad tasted like home grown and ended with apple tart. very reasonably priced, good service, excellent food! her folks (german) are flying in next weekend. guess where we're taking them.

came here for an engagementdinnerand because we love german food. the staff was very gracious and endearing, the food was wonderful to the last bite, the beer was magnificent, and if i lived in nb, i would be a regular here. but since i live in dallas and we don't have german restaurants up there that compare to this one, then all i can do is tell everyone down here to try alpine haus and taste and see why it's the best new german restaurant in town.
