sometimes you have to visit a business and makeup your own minds. we visited this place because my husband wanted us to experience a german restaurant ambiance and food. the waitress that served us lacked customer service skills. we reached out to the restaurant after arriving home from our vacation and discussed the service we had received. the manager stated clearly there was nothing they could do to make up the visit without the owner’s permission. so she left a message for the owner to call us back. which today he did. to our surprise he was rude and condescending and stated “after digesting the food we had buyers remorse “. he even said it’s like calling the mcdonalds owner and saying we didn’t like the fries. that we are wasting his time. wow! never did we get an apology for our experience or any empathy about the experience we had. this waitress was rude and lacked people skills. my husband tried asking her what she recommended off the menu, and her response was “why do you care what i like”? only afterwards to make a suggestion and follow up with “are you happy now”? i have never experienced this type of service. we felt it was due to our skin color as sadly as that may sound. only for the restaurant owner to call and act a little worse than the waitress. he said customers “don’t pay for service”. we paid a bit over $160 for a bad experience. i won’t advise against going, but for that experience i could have gone to dick’s instead and had a better experience. both my husband and i have worked in customer service and have never encountered an owner that doesn’t care about the experience of his paying customers. just be warned that they care about the revenue, not the customers. someone should tell them that the customers are what keeps a business successful. we will never step foot in this establishment again.

worth a trip to new braunfels. my boyfriend and i are from san antonio, so we normally stick to the alamo heights or downtown when looking for restaurants to try, but this weekend i was really craving a good schnitzel. after looking around, i wasn't happy with the german options in san antonio so decided to make the thirty minute trip out to new braufels to try out this restaurant. it was well worth it. everything was delicious. the dining room was comfortable and very clean. would highly recommend.

simple but good food. there's not a lot of menu items and half of the menu is schnitzel but pretty authentic and well made. the desserts weren't too sweet either.

wonderful experience from the atmosphere that is relaxing, the staff who were knowledgeable and on point, to the food which was amazing. by far some of the best food, german or otherwise, that i have added in a long time. off the road with small signage which makes it easy to miss but well worth the effort to find it.

this humble hole in the wall is easy to miss. the staff was very hospitable to a slightly irritated 2 yr old with a peanut allergy. they do use peanut oil to fry; however, arrangements can be made since they make their food from scratch. mix this food with german beer on a cold winter day and you'll pass out on the couch with the best sleep since thanksgiving. a definite must! cheers!

wonderful service and food. my fiancé and live in chicago il, and came to san antonio for vacation. we had heard there was an amazing german restaurant outside of san antonio, so we decided to try it out. the only thing i can say is, too bad we only heard about it the last week we were there. we went 3 times because it was so good. i grew up in a german family, with my oma cooking the best authentic german food. this restaurant was very comparable. it was the best thing next to the real deal. besides the food, the service was amazing, and the owners are wonderful people. my fiancé's mother had just got him a bracelet from james avery that was a couple hundred dollars. it slipped off when we were there, and we thought we had lost it for good. we called the restaurant and the lovely owner told us he had found it. he even joked that he thought to keep it because it was such a nice bracelet. him and his wife sat down with us and talked to us about germany, and it really felt like home. i would highly recommend coming here. everything on the menu is amazing.

ausgezeichnet! the owner brothers took pity upon us and went out of their way to accomodate us one afternoon. it was well worth the effort. best schnitzel ever. we tried both the rahm schnitzel with spatzele and sauer kraut, and the jager schnitzel with potato dumplings and red cabbage. both were excellent. huge portions, gravy well balanced and melt in your mouth. had to stop eating to save room for the apple strudel. flaky homemade crust. an excellent ending to a perfect meal. beware of the hours as they close between lunch and dinner. and note that most evenings need reservations. put this on your must-eat list. best german food we've eaten outside of germany.

great food and atmosphere. we had a wonderful lunch here. we both had the wiener schnitzel and it was awesome, and the sauerkraut and dessert especially were delicious and i thought the best out of any german restaurant we've ever been to. we liked the atmosphere of a quaint historical building with exposed brick walls and antiques. we'll definitely be back!

my mom was born and raised in san antonio and i came to visit. one day i told her lets go to new braunfels to have german food and she said there were some "just ok" restaurants. i came on urban spoon and found alpine haus and saw the great reviews...wow! we loved this place!! i was glad one reviewer said it was hard to find because we drove right past it. the sign out on the road is tiny!! but it's worth driving around to find it. it's a cute old white house set off the street behind another building across from the faust hotel. when we walked in we were greeted by a sweet gentleman and felt like we were being welcomed into someone's home. it's small and cozy with a great german atmosphere. the staff is very attentive, polite and obviously want to make this restaurant succeed. we ordered the brie with ham and it was to die for!! then i had the sausage platter which comes with amazing authentic german potato salad and either red cabbage (so sweet and yummy!) or sauerkraut which was also very good. my mom ordered the sauerbraten with spatzel and i snuck a bite...holy cow!!! the meat was so tender and flavorful and the sauce was rich and meaty. just perfection! a bottle of wine and dessert topped it off. i had the alpine delight which is chocolate mouse and cream heaven and my mom had apple struedel. she said it was better food than she ever had in germany and the whole experience really brought her back to her texan-german roots. my dad lived in germany several times and she is so excited to take him there! two days after we had dinner there we decided to go back! this time we decided not to overstuff ourselves! when we walked in the gentleman who greeted us remembered us. we wanted to eat outside since it was a nice sunny but breezy day and he had no problem with that even though they weren't really set up for it. we just ordered the brie and wine this time (a yummy, sweet but yet light reisling) and enjoyed the great service. the staff asked us our opinion about the restaurant and was very interested in our opinions and suggestions. oh they also had live german music on friday evening. soooo cute!! we love, love, love this restaurant and hope they do well. my family will definitely become regulars here and any time i come back to town we will make sure to eat here.
