love the concept and decor. the service was personable and not forced. thecoffeewas really great and the meal robust flavours and satisfying for an early start and long day ahead. i ordered the mushrooms and there was plenty of it with soft poached egg and sour dough bread.

another christchurch delight is the funky addington co-op cafe. this place is uber cool - it's got big tables for shared dining, its owncoffeeroaster, a 'backyard' area where you can even picnic on the grassy patch the cafe food. there's space to park your bikes, and there's also a corner shop of ethical and ethnic products.

i have been a few times forcoffeeat addingtoncoffeeco op, but never eaten off of the menu. we decided to eat off the breakfast menu. i got the french toast which was delicious! a great combination of berries, bacon and espresso mascarpone that wasn't too sickly. the portion size was not very big, however, we both walked away very satisfied with our meals. there was a slight line to place our order, but the food andcoffeeservice was fast with little wait. thecoffeewas good as it always is. would recommend to all.

addingtoncoffeeco-op is one of those places that i pass frequently. so for the first time i decided to pop in to see what this cafe is like. so far i really enjoyed it. since coming back from auckland i wanted to go somewhere with a ponsonbyesque vibe. i enjoyed my vegetarian sandwich / panini thing. it tasted like a cross between a pizza and a sandwich.

you have to line up and order which was a bit annoying especially when it's busy but the food came out really fast. everything is self service so not a place to go if you want to be served. the mushroom medley was really good but it got too mushroomy - less mushroom and some turkish bread would have been good. the eggs benny was great one of the better ones. pancakes were fluffy and delicious. my favourite jail breakercoffeewhich was unfortunate abit burnt today. there was one staff that was quite moody and rude and not very helpful. looked like she hated her job

only had time for acoffeethis morning.  i love the ambience of this building - it was an old mechanics workshop.  i'm a sucker for exposed beams et al.  the place packs out - with a wide and varied audience.  they make a good coffee.  its house is roasted under their jailbreakercoffeemoniker - perhaps referencing the prison that formerly graced this suburb?

went for breakfast with work colleagues. unfortunately you can't book a table so if you want a table for 10 then get there early. we arrived at 7.30am. table sorted and now time to queue up to order and pay for your meal (my bug bear!) (reminder - don't forget to order something otherwise it's go to the back if the queue!!). anyhow this place does get busy. we all went for the various breakfast options. i had the two poached eggs on toast with a side of bacon, coffeeand orange juice. $22 which wasn't too bad a price (it seemed). anyhow both poached eggs were squeezed on to the one small slice of bread, but hey, it came with home made relish!! look, it was fine and filled the gap for the morning feast! nicecoffeecontributed to the experience. despite the queuing up issue to order i'll definitely go back and try another option before casting my final thoughts on the venue.

my go to place for a local cafe. i always go for their savoury and i do love their berry thick shake. thecoffeeis alright. quite a friendly place to take children here as they have a great big case of toys and books. love that one of the owner always make my kids feel so welcome and get stamps on their hands. for a hip place, i definitely rate it!

another consistent place.  predicable menu but they do it well.  never been a fan of the order and pay at the counter places (prefer table service) and the long and wait to order can be long around lunchtime.  food pretty good on the whole and their milkshakes nice in the old school milk bottles. coffeeis so-so - there are better places in chch for coffee.  would love it if they could upgrade their tired and dated sofas. just a bit too dirty for my liking.

my favorite establishment in all of chch! addingtoncoffeeco-op is a great way to start your day. their savory muffins, croissants and baked goods are to die for. i have yet to try an item i haven't loved. of note: pain au chocolate, ham/pineapple/savory items muffin, chocolate and berry muffin, sausage links, omelettes and french toast. this is a great place to come for a casual brunch, a morningcoffeeor an afternoon snack to read the paper or do your laundry (yes, there is a laundromat on site!). i often get a trim cappuccino that they decorate in different patterns each day.

the atmosphere is rustic casual and brooklyn hipster. wooden beam walls a hodge-podge of wooden tables and chairs and couch seating make up the bulk of the restaurant. the water and utensils are 'serve yourself' and flags of the world are your table markers. the small store in the front sells kitschy little gifts from pillow covers to yarn toys, grocery sacs to soaps and oils. thecoffeeroasting company on site, jailbreak, is fair trade and proceeds from this co-op go to help end women's suffrage.
