fun and tasty. wow -- what a great place! we went as a family with our child and had a blast. we played two excellent games during our stay and ate delicious food. the seating fee adds up for a family but it is cheaper than a movie and way more fun! the selection of games is truly vast and of very high quality. they are very well organized in a library fashion, and thestaffis very eager and knowledgable with games selection.

the food is very good. in particular, the across the board is excellent value, and the salad rolls are wonderful and incorporate creative tastes and textures. would go back for more food, as the selection is great, and it is healthy. love the focus on fresh, whole foods. keep it up!

instead of offering mere cups of coffee (which are not refilled), it would be nicer to have a small french press so it would be clear this is a no refill situation, and give me the satisfaction of a cup and a bit.

the noise level gets pretty high when the cafe is full, but we weren't disturbed because we were so focused on our game.

so far, we have seen the cafe full each time we visited. if this keeps up, i can see them expanding to the basement area. that would be swell!

this place is awesome! i have yet to try the food but thestaffis super nice. the owner is really cool and explains every game to you if he has a moment. they have a huge selection of board games and the prices are incredibly fair. the price you pay to play board games is incredibly fair and they have great prices on beer and other beverages. this is important to me as it allows me to frequent the spot and play lots of board games without breaking the bank! the food looked really good too. i think this is an example of a perfect business model. a great idea surrounded by friendly staff, a great menu, and prices that are actually fair. these make me want to come back and actually support a business, instead of trying once and then moving on. this place will have a loyal customer base very fast as i have already become one of them and i hope to see it succeed. i had an awesome time yesterday and olaf (the owner) strayed us away from our usual pictionary and introduced us to two amazing games that were lots of fun. we are going to try and make this place a weekly thing.

fun for all ages. we headed down to across the board for the grand opening last night. wow! what a great atmosphere! thestaffwas extremely helpful in making game recommendations for our family (including a four year old) and explaining how to play. my wife and i were able to enjoy a beer and a glass of wine with a gourmet pizza in a trendy atmosphere without fear that our children would disturb other patrons. not that this a place for kids games. the real pull is the sheer variety of hundreds of games to try. they have the most popular titles for sale at the front if you want to take them home after you play. i can't wait to go again!

i’ve now been here twice and every time i love it. so many games to choose from and the sitting fee is reasonable for 3 hour time limit. the menu isn’t anything spectacular but it’s fun and has a wide selection. thestaffare super knowledgeable and friendly. overall a great place to spend time.

to sum up: super slow service and food delivery at a relatively high cost. fun board games. lots of variety. don't order food, just go for a drink. trash food service nice atmosphere.

this place is great in theory. i have been here twice and have stayed for the full three hours both times. the first time i went we played ticket to ride which was an okay game. we ordered food and it took over an hour to receive it, after being told that they were all out of chili, baked potatoes and about two other menu items (which left us with about two choices) at 1 in the afternoon on a weekday... the cafe was also dead and they had four people working in the kitchen. the food wasn't bad but the portions are minuscule. sandwiches are about 8$ a pop and you basically have to get a side soup or salad which is an additional 4$. include this with the 5$ cover charge and now you begin to regret asking out that little cute redhead on a date to "this cool new game cafe". that being said, the cover charge makes total sense because of the amount of board games they have to choose from. the second time i went the food took even longer. even less people were there than the first time, and our entire table of 12 people ordered two different types of sandwiches. you'd think that they would make all of them at once no? they instead served them several at a time in 15 minute intervals. many people were done their food by the time another person received their's... it seemed as if thestaffwas working as slow as possible. they forgot about my food completely so i received my food one hour and thirty minutes after arriving. absolutely ridiculous. there is nothing wrong with the game portion of the cafe, however no one wants to go to a cafe to play games while eating a meal. i would much rather eat first then play, but that is impossible because of how long the food takes. you then have to pause the game to eat which makes it boring when you return to the game. this coupled with the relatively high cost, this place is bound to go out of business. my recommendation: only go there to have a drink and play. never, ever, ever order food. also, no nachos. or snacks at a board game cafe??? i'm feeling a 1 on the food service and a 4 on the atmosphere.

fun night "in". my friends and i love it here, and so does most of the city as it seems. place is always packed, so take advantage of their reservations (by phone or website). nice idea for an outing that still feels like staying in. cheap too, as they only charge a $5 sitting fee. you could easily spend hours here so that is a bargain. they have tons of fun games, and the owner olaf, is very knowledgeable and helpful. want to try something you're not familiar with? friendlystaffare trained to know how to play every game so they can teach you. game recommendations: cash n' guns and king of tokyo.

haven't tried a lot of their food, but what i've had has been very good. i loved their salsa fresca; so fresh and light. unfortunately it looks like they took it off the menu. (if you're reading, atb, please bring it back!!!) if you're looking for an assortment of snacks over a meal, the across the boards are the perfect choice and a good variety to share as a table, with meats/cheeses/crackers and more. the chutneys are delicious! their popcorn is also made to order and they've upgraded with more flavours.
as for beverages, their smoothies are fresh and not too sweet. (but again, it seems they have removed them from the menu. bring them back atb!!) and they are also licensed, so wine/beer/spirits are available.

bottom line: cute place, good food. if you like games, you'll love it here.

decent eats, but too expensive for short games. bottom line: if you're going to play for 5+ hours, consider taking advantage of the space, games, and knowledgeable staff.

went for dinner and a game with a group of four. the food (pizzas and sandwiches) were pretty tasty, great pizza dough! some mentioned the sandwich bread was a little dry. prices for both food and drink were reasonable.staffwere great.

however, paying an additional $20 ($5/person flat rate) to play one hour long game that could have been purchased for $25 left me unsatisfied. i could see this model working if i had no games, no place to play, or no fellow gamers. but it was too expensive and too loud to work for regular short gaming (< 3 hours). now, i would strongly consider this place for a game day type event with a dozen or so people. $5 a head to have access to their library, well sized tables, and food/drink for a whole day would be fantastic.

i should mention thestaffwere very helpful and we had a great training session on a fairly new game from one of the guys there. trying new games out here during a longer session may go smoother having their game gurus walk you through.

great experience. went yesterday with three of my friends and ended up staying for almost eight hours. what an absolutely amazing place! we played about six different games and all of them were amazing, thestaffwas the best i've ever seen, helpful without being pushy and never in the eight hours we were there did they make us feel unwelcome. onestaffmember in particular named dan was so kind and outgoing and explained what is now one of our favourite games to us!! i had the crazy chicken sandwich which was nice if a little crumbly. my fiancé had the bbq chicken pizza which i tried and enjoyed and my friend had the collisseo pizza which was amazing. nice and garlicky. we all shared a large franks red hot popcorn which took 45 minutes to come but we were in no hurry. the one thing i'd say is the seasoning was way too hot, we kept getting it up our noses and feeling like we were going to die. all in all what an amazing place, please please go check it out!
