would not go again... met up with a friend for nice evening to hang out and have a bite to eat.. as you walk into the cafe at the entrance there's a sign that basically says if you just want to play a game it is $5, understandable otherwise there's freeloaders.. obviously reading something like that you'd think that if you're a patron already when ordering a meal that you wouldn't have to pay to play - my friend and i both ordered meals and were both charged an additional $5 each to play a game (which we barely did).
along with this disappointment i ordered the chicken sandwich for my meal - my sandwich had next to nothing for chicken in it, might as well have been a veggie sandwich (to give you an idea of the amount - there was less than what you'd get off a chicken wing). very disappointing! i honestly don't know how someone can even feel okay about having that sandwich leave the kitchen the way it did. (picture will be posted).

all in all i did not have agoodexperience here which is why i will not be going back any time soon unless i hear some positive changes have been made.

this place is awesome! i have yet to try the food but the staff is super nice. the owner is really cool and explains every game to you if he has a moment. they have a huge selection of board games and the prices are incredibly fair. the price you pay to play board games is incredibly fair and they have great prices on beer and other beverages. this is important to me as it allows me to frequent the spot and play lots of board games without breaking the bank! the food looked reallygoodtoo. i think this is an example of a perfect business model. a great idea surrounded by friendly staff, a great menu, and prices that are actually fair. these make me want to come back and actually support a business, instead of trying once and then moving on. this place will have a loyal customer base very fast as i have already become one of them and i hope to see it succeed. i had an awesome time yesterday and olaf (the owner) strayed us away from our usual pictionary and introduced us to two amazing games that were lots of fun. we are going to try and make this place a weekly thing.

this is an amazing space to play in, but i wish it was air conditioned!!!  fans don't really work as they blow over game pieces.  i know it's an old building so heat/cold will probably always be an issue.  we also found it to be crazy busy and a little cramped.  this isn't really a place to get a full meal, more like appetizers and snacks.  i also wish there was more table space as eating/drinking while playing can be an awkward dance.  those were really all of my issues with it and i do think we probably picked one of the worst days to go (thursday evening during fringe, 30+ degree weather).
food and service were both excellent.  we made a reservation which was a wise choice as it was completely full when we got there.  there's a reallygoodvariety of games and was a great alternative to our groups weekly d&d night (we tried to stay within the realm and played low).    will absolutely be back.

fun games but poor food and service. i took my husband here for his birthday. we did have a great time playing games, there is hundreds! but were disappointed with the food, mostly the cost vs what you got. i ordered a caesar to start which was $7.00 and not even filled, it was also rather watery. considering how slow the food service was (or waiter only came back to our table once in the span of 3 hours) my drink was probably sitting around for a while before it got to our table. we had the chips and bean dip which was actually quietgoodbut also ordered a small cheese board which was basically something i could have bought at superstore and put out at home to snack on. when you go out, you expect a little more. i would go back to play games but would probably just order some popcorn and keep it at that.

fun night "in". my friends and i love it here, and so does most of the city as it seems. place is always packed, so take advantage of their reservations (by phone or website). nice idea for an outing that still feels like staying in. cheap too, as they only charge a $5 sitting fee. you could easily spend hours here so that is a bargain. they have tons of fun games, and the owner olaf, is very knowledgeable and helpful. want to try something you're not familiar with? friendly staff are trained to know how to play every game so they can teach you. game recommendations: cash n' guns and king of tokyo.

haven't tried a lot of their food, but what i've had has been very good. i loved their salsa fresca; so fresh and light. unfortunately it looks like they took it off the menu. (if you're reading, atb, please bring it back!!!) if you're looking for an assortment of snacks over a meal, the across the boards are the perfect choice and agoodvariety to share as a table, with meats/cheeses/crackers and more. the chutneys are delicious! their popcorn is also made to order and they've upgraded with more flavours.
as for beverages, their smoothies are fresh and not too sweet. (but again, it seems they have removed them from the menu. bring them back atb!!) and they are also licensed, so wine/beer/spirits are available.

bottom line: cute place, goodfood. if you like games, you'll love it here.

i hope across the board game cafe does well. it offers an eclectic concept of board games andgoodfood and should cater to the evergrowing population of board game lovers. even if you are not interested in playing any games, the food is solid enough to be worthy of a nice meal.
