great place for an afternoon. my girlfriend and i had popped in for some lunch and play some games this past sunday and wow what a neat idea. we ordered some sandwiches and soup and they were outstanding, i had the banh mi and it was pretty awesome. at one point we were trying to figure out what game to play next and the cook, george, came and showed us his favorite game (dominion) and taught us how to play it. really cool atmosphere and excellent staff. will be a favorite for us and the fact that you can have a beer is a bonus, they have fort garry pale ale and dark ale on tap and half pints available in bottles. awesome.

would not go again... met up with a friend for nice evening to hang out and have a bite to eat.. as you walk into the cafe at the entrance there's a sign that basically says if you just want to play a game it is $5, understandable otherwise there's freeloaders.. obviously reading something like that you'd think that if you're a patron already when ordering a meal that you wouldn't have to pay to play - my friend and i both ordered meals and were both charged an additional $5 each to play a game (which we barely did).
along with this disappointment i ordered the chicken sandwich for my meal - my sandwich had next to nothing for chicken in it, might as well have been a veggie sandwich (to give you an idea of the amount - there was less than what you'd get off a chicken wing). very disappointing! i honestly don't know how someone can even feel okay about having that sandwich leave the kitchen the way it did. (picture will be posted).

all in all i did not have a good experience here which is why i will not be going back any time soon unless i hear some positive changes have been made.

great experience. i recently visited across the board for the first time with a group of 13. i ordered the roma sandwich and mac and cheese, with a coffee. many of my colleagues ordered alcoholic beverages. i thought the food was great.

olaf helped our group select a game, and walked us through a round of it. he was animated, fun, and a huge help! we started with werewolves of miller's hollow, and finished with concept. i really, really liked the werewolves game.

i'm not really huge into board games, but i enjoyed my visit at across the board, and would definitely come back with more friends.

i know some people noted that the food was a little pricey, and the portions small. while i agree the food might be a little pricey, i wasn't at all disappointed with it, and the portions seemed reasonable to me. i feel the prices are completely fair, considering i am sure many people just pay the 5$ cover, order a drink, and stay for a few hours.

overall, great experience. i would recommend it, and i am sure i'll be back.

fancy a game? travel to across the board game cafe and start playing. across the board game cafe offers a great way to try many types of games and caters to table-top board game enthusiasts of any age. it offers people a place to sit down and play a board game with each other. for a $5 sitting fee, patrons have access to two, storage walls full of different table-top games. they are categorized by titles such as strategy, party, children, the classics, and the hits. if you are interested in dining-in without playing a game, you do not have to pay the sitting-fee. for those looking to purchase their own copy of a game, many are available for purchase. one of two storage walls full of games to try the place is brightly-lit, with sparkling glass chandeliers. when i visited the place it was packed with people enjoying many different types of games. one table of pe

are you "game"?. way too much fun! brings us back to real conversation, live face time, and renewed enjoyment of each other's physical proximity. all surrounded by marvellous food and drink, laughter, wonderful service, and ---- games! real board games! from old to new. who could resist a game called killer bunnies with a pitcher of fort garry and a colosseum pizza. check in, unplug, and unwind. you won't regret it, and may get hooked! love it!

a winnipeg "must see". what an amazing concept! i went to see what all the buzz was about and had such a blast getting to know new games at across the board! as we entered, a server took us to a table and explained how the concept worked. we could choose any games we wanted to play and if we needed any advise on choosing a game or needed any games explaining to us. we played a quick game of the ol' favorite "mastermind" while we waited for the rest of our party to arrive. as our party arrived, we were munching on the "dice bowl" a delicious "across the board" specialty and were dying to try out "takenoko" where we grew bamboo for the panda then co-owner olaf's wife came along and showed us how to play - it seemed complicated but it didn't take us long to get the hang of it and then we were playing like pros! by then we were getting peckish. it was really hard to decide on one of the gourmet pizzas, as they were all so unique and so we chose a couple and shared them. we chose the crazy bbq chicken, which was a delight and the taj ma-hot - a not too spicy pizza combining some of my favorite ingredients (curry sauce, chick peas, pineapple and cilantro) with others to make it a taste sensation! . the beer went down well, as did the homemade smoothies - my favorite being the "monopoly" we had to play the cow dealing game we'd heard about, and after a quick tutorial we had hilarious fun battling it out to get the most sets of farm animals - but the highlight of the night was giant bombeleo- but to find out more you just have to go and check it out!

i had the experience of going to across the board a few weeks ago with a few friends from my baseball team. we were there on a quirt tuesday and the cafe was not terribly busy. overall, the food was overpriced and unimpressive. the chef should consider including dishes that cater to a larger demographic. vegan options are great but shouldn't overpower the rest of the menu.. get creative! my buddy ordered one of the pizzas, dough was decent but toppings scarce. i ordered the mac and cheese and it was bland and common, not much ahead of kd... for a pizza and kraft dinner, it took over 40 minutes to receive our food (again, a relatively quiet tuesday evening). olaf, the owner, although very knowledgeable in boardgames, was arrogant and rude to our server who was trying to explain a game to our group. out of nowhere he appeared, seeming agitated, and rudely interrupted her and took over himself, leaving us all a little astonished and, along with the food, put an overall bad taste in our mouth. i absolutely love the concept, and paying 5 dollars for three hours of play is completely reasonable, but these guys need a change of cuisine and attitude. will bring my inner gamer and business to after dark on osbourne.

fun and tasty. wow -- what a great place! we went as a family with our child and had a blast. we played two excellent games during our stay and ate delicious food. the seating fee adds up for a family but it is cheaper than a movie and way more fun! the selection of games is truly vast and of very high quality. they are very well organized in a library fashion, and the staff is very eager and knowledgable with games selection.

the food is very good. in particular, the across the board is excellent value, and the salad rolls are wonderful and incorporate creative tastes and textures. would go back for more food, as the selection is great, and it is healthy. love the focus on fresh, whole foods. keep it up!

instead of offering mere cups of coffee (which are not refilled), it would be nicer to have a small french press so it would be clear this is a no refill situation, and give me the satisfaction of a cup and a bit.

the noise level gets pretty high when the cafe is full, but we weren't disturbed because we were so focused on our game.

so far, we have seen the cafe full each time we visited. if this keeps up, i can see them expanding to the basement area. that would be swell!

this place is awesome! i have yet to try the food but the staff is super nice. the owner is really cool and explains every game to you if he has a moment. they have a huge selection of board games and the prices are incredibly fair. the price you pay to play board games is incredibly fair and they have great prices on beer and other beverages. this is important to me as it allows me to frequent the spot and play lots of board games without breaking the bank! the food looked really good too. i think this is an example of a perfect business model. a great idea surrounded by friendly staff, a great menu, and prices that are actually fair. these make me want to come back and actually support a business, instead of trying once and then moving on. this place will have a loyal customer base very fast as i have already become one of them and i hope to see it succeed. i had an awesome time yesterday and olaf (the owner) strayed us away from our usual pictionary and introduced us to two amazing games that were lots of fun. we are going to try and make this place a weekly thing.

great food, great times with family and friends.. what an amazing idea. a comfortable and exceptionally friendly atmosphere combined with delicious food and a unique concept. the perfect place to gather with friends and remind yourselves why you liked them in the first place. disconnect from the phone and ipad and engage and share a game and laughter. the incredible array of board games - many of which you will never have heard of - a friendly host will guide you through the how-to's and then you're off on an adventure - building railroads, growing and eating bamboo, trading on the black market. the vietnamese sandwich is to die for. and it's lovely to be able to have a glass of wine or beer as well. kids are welcome too. across the board game cafe is highly recommended for a fun lunch or evening out.

fun for all ages. we headed down to across the board for the grand opening last night. wow! what a great atmosphere! the staff was extremely helpful in making game recommendations for our family (including a four year old) and explaining how to play. my wife and i were able to enjoy a beer and a glass of wine with a gourmet pizza in a trendy atmosphere without fear that our children would disturb other patrons. not that this a place for kids games. the real pull is the sheer variety of hundreds of games to try. they have the most popular titles for sale at the front if you want to take them home after you play. i can't wait to go again!

i’ve now been here twice and every time i love it. so many games to choose from and the sitting fee is reasonable for 3 hour time limit. the menu isn’t anything spectacular but it’s fun and has a wide selection. the staff are super knowledgeable and friendly. overall a great place to spend time.
