the best tex-mex in okc!. this is our favoriteauthentictex-mex restaurant in the okc area. they have good prices and great food. the service is always friendly and quick. sometimes it's crowded but just come back another time or wait for a seat. the manager (owner?) is normally comes by to say hello and check if everything was good. it's nice to have visit a place where you are appreciated as a customer.

one if our favorite mexican restaurants. we travel quite often to ixtapa mexico and the food here is as close to the same as possible. it's the real deal. if you likeauthenticmexican restaurant check thus place out. try a cold bear in a frosted fish bowl, you won't be disappointed. i usually order the bestek ranchero with cameron's.

summary:  authentic mexican food, fast & great service, affordable prices

abel's mexican restaurant serves up delicious, hot, authenticmexican food sure to satisfy any palette - it sure did ours!  the building is a little difficult to find, but it is located in the shopping plaza on the southeast corner of 50th and n. macarthur.  the exterior needs a little updating, but i find the colorful, hand-painted (i think) walls and mexican decor to be absolutely charming.  abel's menu compromises of many, many options for everyone; if you want to be a carnivore, veggie or seafood lover, abel's has options for you.  and as long as you buy food, chips, homemade salsa and queso are served as your initial appetizers.  our server (his name escapes me) was fantastic!  he served the entire lunch crowd alone, but was still able to attend to everyone's needs, questions, and deliver the food in a timely, efficient manner - i would say he was definitely accommodating.

as for the food that we ordered, my husband ordered the super grande burrito (chicken) and i got the fajitas combination (shrimp, chicken, steak).  both came within minutes, and were large portions!  they were served hot; husband had to wait a moment before devouring his burrito and mine came out on a sizzling plate.  both tasted delicious.  the fajitas come with rice, beans, guacomole, and sour cream; all tasted like they were homemade and fresh, especially with the tortillas.  in the future, i believe i will still order the fajitas, but i'll choose the steak one; the shrimp and chicken were great, but i think the marinated steak was the best for their fajitas.  oh, and the fajitas came with their homemade tortillas - which were very, very good!

i know there's a lot of mexican restaurants around, but abel's has always been consistently delicious, fast service, and speedy food delivery.  you really can't go wrong with abel's, so if you haven't tried it, please put this on your wish list and do so.  plus, the prices are so affordable!  great stuff to be had here!

tip:  if you have a meal that serves homemade tortillas (which, by the way, you can request more as long as they are endless), try them with the sweet syrup.  it's a nice, simple 'dessert' you can have at the end without ordering a dessert itself.

heads up:  be prepared for a lot of food!  their portions are rather large, and in general, mexican food can be heavy.

this was our fave. we used to love abel's. it was our favoriteauthenticmexican restaurant. it has gone down hill a little unfortunately. it's still ok and better than many other choices but it still makes me a little sad. tacos calvillo on a good night can not be beat!

been here twice so far.... and plan on going many more times. veryauthenticfood. i love the red and green sauces they bring in the bottles. what are they? yummy!

i hate ted's where they herd you in and out like cattle and stick you with young waitresses with bad attitudes that never crack a smile as they serve you your tv dinner.

menu with many good choices. greatauthenticmexican choices and okie-tex mex choices for those not so adventurous. working my way through menu. must start with tacos cavillo as others suggest. you won't be disappointed. tried all the shrimp offerings and they are all good. be sure and ask for the avacado sauce or green sauce. abel's special blend. he will sell it by the pint or quart for you to take home.

yummy. if you are looking for really good mexican food in aauthenticmexican resturant then guess what abel's mexican (on 50th) is for you. i love, love, love it when my food is not swimming in grease. i chose to get the fajita chick ench platter. the chicken was moist and tender and full of flavor. i chose to get cheese on it because i'm not a sour cream sauce fan. both the beans and rice were also tasty, they weren't dried out like are are at some other establishments. i only have a few requests #1 they need to add green peppers, onions, and cheese to the inside of the ench. #2 it was hot as hell in the building. #3 alot of their dishes are spicy, the waiters need to make sure they tell people. i tried a bite of a friends dish and damn near choked to death. flavorful yes but it burnt out my palate. #4 the guy that is "pimpin" the fruit and cactus samples at the door needs to simmer down and take a "no" i'm full as a compliment to the goodness of able's and not an insult to his produce. good local mexican food without having to go to the southside!!!
