last night was my first visit to yulli's and it inspired my first review because i felt compelled to warn patrons with tastes like my own. let's get the basics out of the way: food was was tasty and reasonably priced as was the wine. the ambience is great, loved the music but the tables are too low for the stools in the courtyard. this however, isn't nearly as annoying as the fact that you need to get your phone torch out to read the menu and identify what dish has just been placed on the table.
now...service: horrific. two other parties arrived at the same time as me. one was smart enough to walk up to the bar to ask to be seated, where a young lady rudely kept her eyes glued to what she was reading while she answered. the other couple waited at the door awkwardly for over three minutes and were completely ignored. i asked to be seated and was given directions to find the allocated table in the courtyard myself.
before i was offered a glass of water or the option to order a drink, a waitress approached me to ask if i had been given a time limit in a manner that could best be described as haughty. once we were ready to order, we had to go inside and approach the bar after sitting in the dark for ten minutes wondering if anybody was coming out. their haughty representative (mentioned earlier) rushed my friend while she ordered, saying "yep" before she had finished reading out the dish names and low and behold, we got the incorrect haloumi dish and the san choy bau never arrived (for the record, she ordered 4 dishes in total so they basically hit a 50% success rate). we struggled to get service throughout the entire night until we were left with just our wine to finish. at this point, we were approached 4 times in the space of 15 minutes to see if we were "okay" which is obviously code for "get out" - and that would have been understandable.... if a third of the restaurant wasn't empty at that time.
i'll disclose that i am not vegetarian, so i will gladly never visit this place again, but the lack of meat on the menu is definitely not the reason for this decision.
