yulli's is agreatrestaurant fusing australian and asian cuisine together. we came in a large group and ordered a variety of dishes. service was friendly and relatively fast. the stand out dish for us was probably the mushroom and vegetable skewers and chilli and thai basil flat rice noodles. the dishes were full of flavour and presented beautifully, though servings were a bit small. overall, however, we had a very pleasant dining experience and would not hesitate to come again!

“ask not what you can do for your country. ask what for lunch.” orson welles i remember the first time i went to yulli’s . i read a lot of good reviews on yulli’s and recommended that we go there for lunch one fine saturday. my boyfriend, the non-vegetarian, agreed, but quickly gave me a frowned look when we got there and he realised that there’s no meat on the menu. luckily, he spotted a vegetarian burger with halloumi cheese  and he was instantly a happy man. fast forward a few months, we have been to yulli a few more times and it has become one of our favourite spots for weekend lunches. it’s not easy to find an eating spot that caters to both of our dietary and dining preferences, so i was over the moon when both of us were equally impressed with yulli’s food and service on our first visit.greatspot at the heart of surry hills, greatfood, good service, awesome presentation, tick, tick, tick. yulli’s menu is largely seasonal  with some popular signature dishes that are availabl

i had never been to a vegetarian restaurant until yulli's.  my friend had dietary requirement on that day and yulli's became the only dinner option.  i was definitely dubious but what a mind opener. i didn't know vegetarian food could taste this good. we ordered halloumi, an eggplant dish and tofu laksa. they were allgreatespecially the laksa. i was content after the meal and changed my perception about vegetarian food.

i went here for lunch on a saturday with my fiancee. being a general non vegetarian least of all vegan, i was a bit unsure of what to expect but i am very happy to say it was agreatexperience and i will go there again!

food: we had 1 each of the small, medium and large plates. to begin, edamame and coconut moneybags - perfectly fried with a crisp buttery batter. the soft edamame balanced the texture well and the coconut sang through. next was korean fried broccolini with sticky sauce. the fry was delicate, much like good tempura. the sauce was sweeter than i wanted but the crushed almond balanced it out well. finally, the miso eggplant with wild rice salad. this was my favourite dish by far - eggplant was smoky and creamy and the coriander garnish along with the tomatoes added brilliant flavour and sweetness.

value: generally i like my meat so i end up paying for it. i was pleasantly surprised at how cheap the meal was - $55 for only three dishes! given the location, service and quality this is the best you could ask for. i imagine you would get a couple of steaks at the clock across the road for as much and it wouldn't be nearly as good.

service: very quick to serve and bring out the food. we weren't there at peak time but very impressed nonetheless.

overall yulli's does exquisitely in proving that vegans can experience high dining at reasonable cost. will recommend to my meat eating friends!

yum yum yum vegan and craft beer heaven. everything on this menu can be made vegan and the list of local craft beers is nice and long! every time we go we have agreattime and leave so full and satisfied (hungry just thinking about it). everything on the menu is unique and creative with things like deep fried zucchini flowers stuffed with an incredible savory mix of pearl barley with a hint of earl grey tea, dumplings drizzled in an delicious sweet soy sauce or their own falafel which you wrap in a giant leaf! best vegan place in sydney!

i've been going to yulli's brewery in alexandria, where they make their very fruity but good beers that bring in lots of industrial workers that they can then wow with their vegan food. i've hadgreatstuff there like the fried cauliflower. unfortunately they've cut down the menu and everything now relies on fake cheese. today i had the eggplant schnitzel which would have beengreatwithout the empty tang of the fake cheese.

this is a nice, (but not amazing) vegan restaurant that isgreatvalue for money. the atmosphere isgreatand it's right in the heart of surry hills.

the best dish was the kale gyōza - i am not a kale fan but this punchy and zesty. vietnamese pancakes were very good too.

the desserts, while beautifully presented, were a bit disappointing.

i wouldn't rush back but it's worth checking out.

ordered: vietnamese pancakes with crispy tofu skin, king mushroom and plum sauce (4 for $18), fried zucchini flower with beetroot cream and apple salad (4 for $27), baked eggplant involtini with tomato ragout and spicy chutney ($18.50), roasted peppers stuffed with feta ($19.50), ravioli ($18.50) and a jug of beer. my favourite dish was the fried zucchini flower followed by the vietnamese pancake. i thought both these dishes were moreish and had such a unique flavour profile. the other dishes were just as good, i didn’t pay heaps of attention to what flavours there were but it all tasted delicious.greatplace for vegetarian and you def won’t be missing meat afterwards. place was also buzzing for a wed night! my only complaint is that it is pretty pricey for what it is and you probably won’t be full after sharing any of the ‘large’ items, but i suppose you can save that stomach space for messina icecream?

it’sgreatto see a restaurant doing so well, and a vegetarian restaurant doing so well in particular (eating less meat is good for the planet). on a monday night, yulli’s was pretty much packed. i’m surprised i haven’t blogged about it before, as i’ve eaten a number of times here (and have a number of vegetarian friends).

i rate this place 4 stars for food, the good dishes were really good! need to be careful what you order i think. alcohol was terrible though eek. i'll talk about the food first:
- leek dumplings 4/5, came with a nice sauce and ginger-y filling, i would've preferred a smoother filling personally
- edamame moneybags 5/5 yum such a good filling and quite unique!
- broccolini 5/5 - very filling and tasty dish, it had an awesome batter/texture. the waiter this was meat lovers favourite dish if you're coming with any non-vegetarians
- fried zucchini 3/5greatsauce but not mind blowing, it was basically just a whole zucchini but had this tasty thai style sauce with it
- vietnamese pancakes 5/5, came with a mushroom filling which i loved and the sauce paired really well
- potato croquettes 5/5, came with delicious beetroot and the flavors matched really well
- cauliflower 2/5, was hard (not cooked until it was soft) and did not really have agreatflavor. the sauce was also like that bad guacamole that is 10% avocado and 90% sour cream etc
- sticky date dessert 2/5, had a glue like texture and was so tiny. came with a giant scoop of vanilla ice cream and not the special kind...not keen
- negroni was unfortunately a 1/5 because it was all ice! the flavor was like a standard negroni but it must have been a premix and like only one shot added to the glass of ice because with one sip more than half of it was gone and i am not exaggerating
- g&t also just tasted like ice i could not taste any gin

moral of the story- come here just for the savory food and avoid ordering alcohol or dessert. the best dishes were the "small plates". i did really like yulli's but just a few question marks!

came for the banquet dinner, but unfortunately it is a minimum of 4 people. the website does not state this, which is pretty frustrating. we had to order off the main menu instead. the dumplings where really fresh and flavorsome. the pancakes had an interesting taste. we also tried the tofu papaya salad which was a little disappointing. the eggplant was agreatmain course also. will return with a larger group to try the banquet. the variety of beer is really good with some interesting choices.
