yoshi sushi

worst sushi bar none. the rating that this restaurant has been able to maintain flabbergasts me as i've been here numeroustimesand would never recommend it to anyone, even as a last resort. their appetizers and kitchen items are mediocre at best but their sushi/sashimi is downright awful. i've ordered tuna and scallop rolls in the past only to receive what i would label "mystery seafood" that was neither tuna or scallop and the appearance and taste was enough to make me leave the dish virtually untouched. if you order a roll that has some form of sauce (e.g. spicy salmon) it will be drenched, and even if there's no mention of sauce, they douse most of their other rolls in an unknown sweet/teriyaki mixture. i don't trust their quality of fish and i don't trust what they're labeling the seafood in their sushi. save your money and go elsewhere, there are so many other fantastic sushi restaurants in victoria!

been here dozens oftimesover the years with friends and family. i really like the variety of lunch specials they have. their ramen is nice and bouncy and i appreciate being able to have a nibble of sushi on the side that comes with the convo. their weekend discount is pretty generous too. we've celebrated birthdays here - the 30% discount is so enticing. we used to order both lunch boats. the seafood one with more sashimi and the gourmet one with chicken teriyaki. unfortunately the portions on the boats have drastically decreased over the years. i guess they have to either do that or increase prices, it's understandable. their tempura tastes fresh every time. this is our go-to place with the family.

disgusting. after eating here, i found out that it's actually possible to make worse sushi than fairway markets, and charge threetimesas much!

the sushi rice was stale and sour, the sushi itself smelled suspicious, and the service was bad. it's as if they were doing us a favour by serving us. hopefully more sushi places will spring up in the area to show the residents there what actual sushi is supposed to be like.

yoshi sushi is one of victoria’s hidden secrets. i’ve been here a fewtimesbefore and they have never disappointed. when i’m here for a lunch with a new friend, i had to find that prawn cocktail that i tried before and only saw that it had been replaced with a sashimi cocktail ($11). i was not disappointed ...

good bento boxes at lunchtime. the bento boxes at lunchtimesare a good value and it's one of my favorites for lunch. they are typically quick to serve pairs of people up to 4, but service can lag for larger groups. avoid the lunch hour proper if you are wanting to get in and out for lunch as it can be quite busy during the week as it's a popular lunch spot. they also offer a membership card for $5.00 per year which gives a 15% discount.

while i've been to lunch quite frequently, i've only been once or twice for dinner. just as lunch is affordable ~$12 and has a variety of options, dinner is very expensive. i shared a boat of sushi with someone for dinner which was more than enough food for the 2 of us, but it was $30.00. i've only been once or twice on the weekends, which is less busy. go at least a half hour before they close at 2pm so they can accommodate you, and you aren't rushed.
i have had better sushi in places like san francisco (so you can't compare it to that), but i think that for victoria, the sushi is good and affordable here.

great place for lunch. good food and a very busy restaurant at lunch time. i eat here monthly, sometimes more. sushi is fresh and tea hot. i love the bento boxes (~$12 + tax).

great place for large groups if you reserve a tatami room, and also has quite a few 4-6 person booths, and smaller tables, as well as a sushi bar.

they give a 30% off discount for birthdays, and if they recognize you as a "regular", there is a yoshi sushi club at lunch time where you receive 15% off.

dinner is more expensive, but the sushi on the boat is a good value if you split it between 2 persons. free parking; in the gateway village mall. service has been prompt and friendly, and it is possible to get in and out within the lunch hour.

good consistent sushi place. have eaten severaltimesat this restaurant and the food is consistent and good. so far this has been the only decent sushi place i have found in victoria.
