sheila and i decided to grab some lunch out today and opted for yoshi sushi in the gateway centre between vernon and douglas. i have seen this strip mall area for years but never been in there. i had heard there was a decent sushi place in there, but it w

farmed salmon. farmed salmon is not sushi grade plus trying to feed people it on the island are you kidding me? sushi wasn't that great anyway. last visit for me.

worst sushi bar none. the rating that this restaurant has been able to maintain flabbergasts me as i've been here numerous times and would never recommend it to anyone, even as a last resort. their appetizers and kitchen items are mediocre at best but their sushi/sashimi is downright awful. i've ordered tuna and scallop rolls in the past only to receive what i would label "mystery seafood" that was neither tuna or scallop and the appearance and taste was enough to make me leave the dish virtually untouched. if you order a roll that has some form of sauce (e.g. spicy salmon) it will be drenched, and even if there's no mention of sauce, they douse most of their other rolls in an unknown sweet/teriyaki mixture. i don't trust their quality of fish and i don't trust what they're labeling the seafood in their sushi. save your money and go elsewhere, there are so many other fantastic sushi restaurants in victoria!

been here dozens of times over the years with friends and family. i really like the variety of lunch specials they have. their ramen is nice and bouncy and i appreciate being able to have a nibble of sushi on the side that comes with the convo. their weekend discount is pretty generous too. we've celebrated birthdays here - the 30% discount is so enticing. we used to order both lunch boats. the seafood one with more sashimi and the gourmet one with chicken teriyaki. unfortunately the portions on the boats have drastically decreased over the years. i guess they have to either do that or increase prices, it's understandable. their tempura tastes fresh every time. this is our go-to place with the family.

quick service, variety, and good food! the negitoro rolls and the lunch bento box with yam tempura rolls and beef teriyaki are my favourite. i'd recommend the boats if you're with a big party or just looking to try a variety of things.

i have been going to yoshi for years recommending them to all my friends . the robata oyster and dancing scallops are a favorite . they give an awesome discount on your birthday and for regular customers .  in business there are always negative people but this sushi is unique and ive been eating sushi in bc all my life . i give them thumbs up for service and the bar is super clean  beautiful waitresses  always rushing around . their sushi boats are huge  try one- bet you cant finish it .  5 stars    norm and linda

prices inconsistent!. beware of inconsistent prices! check your bill and be prepared to argue with the cashier for the price as listed in menu. moreover, was not notified of additional costs for a substitution - which turned out to be almost as much as if i had just ordered it on the side!! will not be returning anytime soon!

disgusting. very dirty!! so tired and creepy that we lost our appetites. the karage and tempura smelled like old fat.

don't eat here!. for a five minute drive, go elsewhere! we took our toddlers here and had a gross experience. the sushi isn't that great, and some chicken my son had tasted off then ended in upset stomachs. worst of all at the end of the meal, when everyone was done, i had some of my son's orange juice and it was completely mouldy. absolutely disgusting!!! poor little thing drank about half a huge glass of it. we will absolutely not be going here again.

worst. worst service ever ! went for a family birthday dinner was not even offered drinks waited forever for all the food to come out, by the time the last dish was out the first person was done there food. food was also cold .

ugh, worst. went for a birthday lunch for my mum with my sister and son. the waitress was in training and i understand that that requires patience on our part but it was mistake after mistake. no plates, wrong rolls, and the rolls that did come were either very cold (out of the fridge) or borderline hot. the raw tuna was gummy and chopped, the avocado was brown and squishy, the rice was sour. cannot recommend this restaurant.

best sushi in victoria!. there's some good sushi restaurants throughout victoria but yoshi remains the most consistently delicious and high quality! my favourites are the spicy tuna rolls and spicy scallop cones. the baked oysters are a decadent treat (they take a little longer to prepare but are worth it)! my husband gets the nigiri bento box which offers a nice variety. we've never had any complaints about the service though can see the servers are occasionally stretched thin during busy times, that is to be expected when there's also a big demand for them to answer the phone for take-out orders and act as cashiers. they give 20% off weekend lunches - great deal to try different items. another perk, there's ample free parking.
