food is ok but definitely not worth the crappy service and ridiculous prices. i'm not sure what all the hype is about, but it is certainly not deserved. it makes me wonder who's writing all of these positive reviews.
i'll start with the good - the ambience was cool. plenty of seating areas, rustic, eclectic, down to earth. it has a laid back, relaxing vibe. thesandwicheswere adequately tasty. good sauces. the retriever roast roast beef sandwich was piled high with meat. the holy crap, not so much. it was good, but skimpy. definitely not worth $11 for a turkey sandwich.
which leads me to the first of the bad. way overpriced. $7 for a glass of beer??? $10-11 for a sandwich, chips, and a quarter of a pickle? the prices were not in accordance with the environment. if the food was spectacular and the service was, well, good, one might not mind splurging, but the food was far from spectacular and the deal killer - the crappy service and rude staff.
after being in the restaurant for about 5 minutes with staff just walking around looking at and ignoring us, we were finally told that customers order at the counter and find a seat in one of several eating areas. ok. maybe that's something they should tell customers when they enter or at the very least, have it posted somewhere. we got our own menus which consisted of a lot of different names for essentially several different versions of the same few things. the bbq and pulled pork section of the menu was just a bunch of different pulled pork meals. no ribs that one would expect in a bbq menu. ok, no ribs tonight, so we ordered sandwiches.
the first girl at the register seemed nice. at least she smiled. couldn't answer a question about the beer on tap, but did go find out. then she was gone. the cashier who cashed us out acted bothered when asked if a side salad we ordered could be brought out with the rest of the meal. she just left it on top of the counter like it was too much bother to put it away for a few minutes. we didn't realize that that was too much to ask for. we sat at a table upstairs not knowing that the door about 6 inches away from the table was to a restroom. no clearly visible sign. we only knew because some guy walked in. the final kicker was the audacity of the sign at our table that asks customers to clean up their own table after eating. really? after paying almost $50 for a couple of sandwiches, 3 beers, and a side salad one is expected to clean up too? save your money for toojay's, panera's or crispers. as a matter of fact, i'd probably go to wawa before returning to this place.
