we got to know about the yellow bird cafe from rappler and decided we should try it today, mother's day.

i agree with the other reviewers, the decor and ambiance in the restaurant is nice.  the service was courteous but too slow, we also observed that the staff are not very methodical in doing their tasks.

we ordered:
salmon salad (taste wise- ordinary, the portion was too small, the bowl they use for the salad is too big for the quantity. actually we found the portion of all the food weorderedtoo small for the price).
crispy okoy was alright, at least it was really crispy, its taste- nothing memorable, price- reasonable.
beef and pork mechado (the pieces of beef is not tender enough, but the roast beef was alright).  we found both entrees too salty.
brownies with ice cream was alright, moist and not too sweet but i wish the ice cream scoop is a bit bigger and not just as big as a golf ball.
drinks, we all had coke.

our bill was almost p1,500 for 3 people and we all did not feel like we had enough to eat.

i really love this place, it's newly opened so not many have been here and they haven't finalized their menu yet but everything is affordable for a place like this. their interiors are beautiful and it's pretty bright inside because of the large windows. the staff are friendly and we made friends with the owner as well.

for the food, weorderedchicken pesto pasta and seafood arabbiata, which were both very delicious in my opinion! the serving size is proportion to the price of the meal. we brought our own jenga to play with while we were here. would definitely like to come back and chill here again 👍🏻

weorderedgrade 6 wagyu flat iron steak, the serving is not worth the price. seared salmon is ok.

there are other restos in the area that can give us a bigger serving and quality food.

place: the interior is really pleasant. clean and chic design; however, the lack of waiting area is somewhat annoying since their "waiting area" is just a bench that fits 3 max. so when there's more than one group waiting, others would be left wandering around the street.

service: mains aren't served all at the same time. but the waiting time is not that long (since there's not much people around.)

food: their beverages are good (especially the fruit tea selection since they're very refreshing)
-nachos 💯💯💯 m u s t o r d e r.
-salmon (signatures) a bit dry. i've tasted better salmon dishes especially considering its price point.
-grade 6 wagyu (signatures) weordered2 of it with the same doneness (medium rare). inconsistent quality. the first one is what you would expect, juicy and melts in your mouth. the other one is really dry that it almost looks like a glorified tapa.

*one thing to note: their menu has so many unavailable dishes when we went there. (maybe because of the pandemic) but expect that not everything will be available upon your visit.

history repeats itself:

people who come to dine have reasons. they want to have a good time and explore gastronomically. especially when they go for a long drive for it.
it was my son’s 30th bday yesterday. of course you would want a nice place. we came from lunch at pililia so we’re stuffed. we wanted coffee and snacks before we went home. there wasn’t a queue, the area inside the al fresco was not taken when we arrived and would fit 10! we we’re not offered that for some reason, we are patient and can respect rules but after 15mins guests were seated there. 2 tables were occupied at the alfresco and the manager said we will have it to ourselves since the customers have billed out but they didn’t, theyorderedagain, waited for the 3rd person. the manager should have been aware and should’ve attended us since it was almost an hour of waiting and not all were seated at an area big enough for us. i even said we were ok there if they just add tables and we’re good. yes, we said we were willing to wait but not 2hrs. to be seated! in other words, we were neglected! order were delivered here and there. new customers were seated and served except us. i had a squabble with the manager and a rude waiter so i called for the owner who lived nearby. they were watching the cctv all along, they saw us arrive! 15pax and another 3pax after a while, isn’t that something you should watch out for? a big group is one big wave for the kitchen, something exciting if i may say. i am a restaurateur too. spent almost 10k in pililia. i could definitely afford your menu, no freebies needed.

unfortunately, maybe 5yrs in the business and customers come and go, so they were just not willing to go out of their way for a bunch of super disappointed/disgusted (still an understatement) customers. we just heard excuses and past experiences of incidents that we really didn’t need at that time. they did apologize but never even offered that since we were there, maybe attend to us that we be seated and ate the soonest time possible because we were starved! a little compensation or special treatment after our ordeal, the emotions we had to deal with and worse, ruin our day and our son’s 30th bday. we were there 5:30 and some of our food were served after 2hours! no utensils, no tissues and they served the sirracha chicken wings first without our drinks or even water. try asking 3x and water comes. no luck on our drinks coz they said they only had one barrista on a freakin saturday? sorry, i don’t buy that. my customers get their utensils and water 5mins while browsing the menu. when you go there, you might be attended and asked for the qr almost instantly but don’t be fooled, this has happened before and this is how they handle it. get more people, they must be exhausted thus lapses and incompetence. sorry maam angie, you didn’t handle it at all. 15pax kami and 3 more friends of my daughter drive all the way to meet us. your manager excellent receptionist. get a good manager to call the shots, someone efficient. of course he didn’t get any scolding, he is your godson. oh well, good luck still.😤

i’m sorry but hindi talaga sulit ang binyahe namin para dito.. iordereda pumpkin soup and monte cristo sandwich. the pumpking soup tasted like mantika. ewan ko ba :( i could not even taste a bit of pumpkin in there. i was expecting that they would use semi premium ingredients for the monte cristo. but no. it was just tasty bread, square na ham, square na cheese plus mayonnaise. service was okay. mabait din yung manager. but will never come back again.

worth the hype and the long drive! this place serves great quality food. weorderedsteak, pasta, salad, nachos, and coffee. everything was delicious! serving size is just okay, a bit pricey but good quality food. i suggest you don’t order the salad because the serving size is very small. steak was very soft! super worth it.

make sure to message their instagram account or to text them for reservations. a lot of people weren’t allowed to dine in due to limited seats.

points for improvement: attentiveness of the staff and serving time 😊 we needed to follow up some of our orders, and we heard that they actually forgot to prepare it. also, the person at the cashier was a bit rude, but i think a little more education and training can help her improve.

overall, it was a good dining experience✨

we went on a thursday during brunch and was lucky to get a table. most of the tables were already reserved and we did not pre-reserve a table before going. they were on cash basis only, which was a slight down for us.

weorderedalmost everything on the menu. sadly, most of their signature dishes that we wanted to order were not available like the cordon bleu, wagyu steak etc.

food was good, we were happy with the quality and price were very reasonable. personal faves are the okoy, tinolang baka, gising gising and the french beans with cashew. their lychee iced tea was also very refreshing.

weorderedshrimp scampi pasta (3/5 a bit sourish), bacon and mushroom pasta (good, 4/5, ribs (3.5/5, serving is small for its price) , chicken cordon bleu (4/5 son liked it) , and potato wedges (4/5, if you can bungle potato wedges, ewan na lang). overall, food was good. what was bad was how long our order took to serve. we waited 1 hour 20 mins. my reservation was for 12noon. out food came out 1:20pm. yes the place was packed. but having to wait that long to eat isn't justifiable. will we come back? probably not. i can get the same food from other cafes for much quicker time.

we went here before lunch around 10:30. weorderedtinapang bangus, pansit bihon, and pork katsudon(not on photo). we had the food to go so as we wait for our food, i’ve observed their staff and check out the place.

when we came in, we went straight at the counter and tell them that we’ll order food for to take out. they were not paying attention yet as it looks like the cashier and the server at the counter were doing something else. so i just asked if we just had to get a table and then order from there. the cashier answered yes and asked the server to take our order. the server went to us and handed over the menu but i told them that we have selected our orders (thanks to zomato!). he took our orders and took about 45 mins for our orders to be served. mind you that they forgot to give us the pansit bihon and just realized that after 10 mins or so when checking our orders in the car. so we had to return to the resto. it’s a good thing that we haven’t left the area. anyway, they need to work on their customer service skills. although the cashier apologized, no one has went out and chase us that are orders are not complete yet. a need to work on being organized.

the interior is nice however they have a tight spacing of their tables and chairs that customers who are eating would be too conscious when servers or other customers would walk the aisle. they have to adjust the table set-up.

the food that weorderedare okay nothing special. overall, i would give a 3.5 not that bad experience but nothing separates them from other regular resto and a lot of things to improve on, in the food business.

oh, by the way, it looks like the 2 storey building infront of the resto is their function room.

this resto is within our neighborhood and had frequently patronised it when it opened a few years ago. back then, the friendly owners were very hands on. i recall the owner’s son had been the resident chef at the time.

over the years however, the food quality and service had steadily deteriorated. on more than one occasion, waiting time was unbearably long (20 minutes for hot tea and a slice of cake), and some food items were outright fails (overly sour daing na bangus). but i was too lazy to give feedback and just stopped dining there, save for the occasional ( purple oven) cake cravingorderedto-go.

due to the worsening town traffic though, we found ourselves at the resto again this weekend. hey, everyone deserves another chance right? so we had coffee and cake on friday night, and an early dinner tonight. the coffee was great, but sadly the service was again wanting. i had to follow up for the creamer, while my husband’s coffee wasn’t served with sugar. tonight, everything took awhile: menu, order taking, food serving and finally asking for the bill. at one point, there were 4 or 5 of them at the counter, all of them with their heads bowed seemingly busy with something. busy with everything except checking if their customers needed anything, that is. given the cozy size of this cafe, that shouldn’t be difficult. yet i had to march up to the counter to ask for the billing. the food was just okay; the beef bulgogi rice could have used some bean sprouts and a tad less soy sauce. but the service totally sucked. if the owners are reading this, please do something about it. you used to have good servers.
