winnies gourmet pizza bar

my partner talked about this place so many times as he visited winnies around two years ago -  so as expected, i was super excited to try out one their famous pizzas. we ordered the crispy bacon pizza to share.. we didn't wait too long until the pizza arrived - during this time we enjoyed sitting in front of the fireplace- after my first slice of pizza, i felt slightly disappointed. i guess because my partner had over-hyped how good it would be. i don't think i would come back for the pizza, but i'm open to try other things from the menu :)

a nice pub / restaurant with a nice fire place running during the colder nights. pizza and garlic bread were tasty and filling. service was good

we fell in love with this place the minute we entered it. it had this look of a sports cafe and the girls who served us were a totally helpful lot. the music was cheerful and the caprico pizza was tasty. the restaurant also has free wifi . will definitely visit winnie's when i go to queenstown

was not as good as the cow restaurant.atmosphere is tooo good lots of people around.nice service....

winnie's didn't leave a great impression for me.

arrived for lunch during a seemingly quiet period in the restaurant (2 other tables seated). sat outside undercover where multiple tables were not cleared or wiped down, used serviettes were left on the floor. clean plates on our table were not that clean.

entrée (pizza bread) arrived quite quickly but we noticed what appeared to be mould on the base. the waitress eventually reassured us that it wasn't mould though this was not until our mains were brought out some 40mins later.

beef burger and thai pizza were very average, this stated also by my partner who is very easily pleased when it comes to food.

surrounding empty tables were eventually cleared once the mains were brought out though dirty napkins were still left on the floor.

waitresses were lovely and friendly when spoken to but could perhaps be a bit more efficient and observant.

amazing crowd, amazing music, cheap shots and booze, big space !!! best place to party in town and have the best pizza's with a glass of wine !!! a dining turning into a night club by the night !!! love this place !!!

pizza was ok but nothing special.. the arancini was nice. good service even with a big group. good large portion sizes and a nice atmosphere

we went here as a big group tonight (20pax) for dinner! the service was so good and fast! they did a really good job with our order, wasn't a single mistake. the pizzas were delicious, so fresh and heaps of toppings! we were all very happy and will definitely be returning!

great atmosphere, cool place to have dinner.  ordered satay pizza and vegetarian pizza.  satay was delicious, vegetarian was dry.  dessert apple crumble pizza was great.  sat under the speaker system in the main room and had to shout to each other by the end of the night as the music volume slowly got turned up.

like this place, casual atmosphere, funky with the opening roof, relaxed decor.

did a takeaway pizza one night, back to the hotel room. was a fairly basic americana pizza, pepperoni, cheese, that sort of stuff. didn't want anything too frilly and it fit the bill. was good, not write home fantastic, but good.

came back another night for a dine in. we didn't actually order pizza, instead i ordered the buffalo wings and ribs. pleasantly surprised, they were very good. wasn't a fan of the coleslaw that came with the ribs, its a personal thing i guess, but the ribs themselves were tasty with a great bbq sauce.

the wings were also good, fleshy, not dried out, good bbq sauce and great blue cheese dip. would liked to have had more celery but hey, why spoil a meat pig out with vegetables.

the rest of the family also really enjoyed their meals however mine were best.

good beer selection too.

worst hospitality / customer service i have ever experienced. i have never written a review for anything before, good or bad, but this terrible experience merited it. i am an american traveling in new zealand on holiday for a week and yesterday was my first day in queenstown. my boyfriend and i decided to go out to experience the local nightlife. we met a nice couple at the first bar we went to and they suggested that we go to winnies as they had a billiard table there and we all felt like playing a round of pool. as soon as we walked in the first thing i noticed was the abundance of clearly intoxicated 18/19 year olds. there was a stage where they were doing karaoke and dancing in front of the stage. we made our way to the back corner to the pool table which was thankfully clear of people and paid for a round of pool. we had just started playing when the lady from the couple we were playing with left to go to the rest room and left her full drink she had just purchased on the pool table by accident. as soon as she left to the restroom and extremely rude blonde woman working there came up and yelled at us for having a drink on the pool table, which to be perfectly honest looked about as clean and in the condition of a pool table you would find in a frat house in america. before we even had a chance to apologize the rude woman employee grabbed our friend's full drink and yelled at us saying she didn't care she was taking the drink and throwing it out. next, as we began playing a male employee came up and threw the pool table cover on the table in the middle of our game and started grabbing the balls. my boyfriend asked him what he was doing and he said he was putting away the pool table. my boyfriend then kindly asked if we could please finish the game we had just started, since that was the only reason we came to this bar in the first place. the rude blonde employee, whom we found out actually might have been the manager, came up and looked at the male employee and snapped "no, they're done". when we began to politely ask what the problem was she cut us off and again snapped "i don't care, you guys are done, we're putting the table away." my party was sober and was not about to pitch a fit but as i was trying to collect my belongings to move out of the way another male employee actually grabbed my arm and shoved me out of the way. i don't know how they do things in new zealand, but if any bar in the u.s. treated their customers the way we were treated at winnies, they would be out of business in no time. i don't want to hold this experience against queenstown as it's a beautiful place, but this definitely tainted my experience here. my suggestion to the owners of this establishment: hire a staff with proper hospitality and customer service skills who treat patrons with kindness and respect. my suggestion to other prospective customers: don't come here unless you actually enjoy rude staff and poor service.

if you're wanting a man meal of a pizza then hit and smack the back out of winnies! we had half seafood and chicken and cranberry - solid 8/10!

this place is always pumping and you're not waiting long before the pizza "literally" rolls out.

good place to enjoy a pizza and drinks plus the roof opens to let the snow in when the dance floor is pumping some nights - love qt!

a friend who i was on this trip with would not sbut up about winnies, so we decided to give it a try. what can i say! the pizzas are amazing!!! a friend also ordered some wings which were perfection. the vibes in the place are so happy and buzzy, everyones having a good time. the staff are very welcoming and friendly too! we even came on our last day in town to buy a few pizzas to take back to auckland for a friends dad who loves the pizzas from here, and to make it better, while we were waiting for the pizzas we went and played pool on their pool tables to kill time! love this place and will definitely be spreading the word to all friends visiting queenstown :)

had the thai chicken curry pizza and it was amazing! i've never had such a different pizza so was a bit hesitant to get it but glad i took the plunge. the crispy noodles on top were a nice touch, the chicken was tender and there was the right ratio of cheese to ingredients. the base was also nicely cooked. winnies always has a vibrant environment as they play good tunes and it also smells so good. hope to go back and try some of their other pizzas.

the pizza itself was fairly good (i had the mexican fiesta), we had to wait a while at the bar for a table but this was a shorter wait than we were expecting. once our food order was taken it was hard to get wait staffs attention though.
