venue: large turn of last century bank building with open fire for toasty warm cosy dining in wintery weather. impressive architecture. easy accessible on street parking. staff welcoming, attentive & not too pushy. there is a very impressive, varied & large selection of local & imported wines. we became wine club members as we were impressed with the staff's knowledge of the local wines & the discounts of course.
menu unchanged for a while but remains good. duck pat'e is excellent however requesting extra bread, which has decreased in amount over time, incures a cost.
mains average sizes, no need to order sides but they are available. steak sanga teder generous & sustaining. chicken curry tasty. wine @ table $10 a bottle dearer than when purchased for yake away, but remains reasonably priced.
good venue,goodvalue,goodservice,
good food & wine. 6 1/2 -7 out of 10.

slow service for 6 people (sat lunch time booking, 40 mins for 3 shared starter plates) butgoodfood & wine, would go there again as a smaller party (ie 2 or 3 people) and hopefully choose a quieter time, the few seats inside the bar, which is like a wine cellar with bottles stacked up nice and high) was dark, warm and cosy looking)

the worst service ever. i wish i could give this place a 0. we came all the way from melbourne and we saw this place has agoodreviews. the waitress wasn't welcoming at all. (don't think she should be in hospitality- very angry face) waited 15 minutes before she came back to take drinks order, after what she ignored our table for another 15 minutes. when we finally got our drinks we were ready to order food, she walked off. we waited another 10 minutes, paid for our drinks and walked out. barista asked what was wrong and when we said no one came to our table, his response was, "oh". unpleasant experience overall. do not recommend. !!!!!

great option in bendigo. love the vast selection of wine for retail and drink in. food was unexpectedly delicious. definitely try the chips with garlic mayo! my fish was cooked perfectly, along with the gourmet burger. only thing that was unappetizing was the kangaroo meatballs. they were so gamey, we couldn't eat them. otherwise, service wasgoodand friendly.

great spot for a relaxed saturday lunch.

the staff did a great job accommodating a pusher & active toddler.

the food was very tasty and there was agoodvariety on offer. no complains from anyone about the confit chicken, open steak sandwich or gnocchi.

obviously being a 'wine bank', there was no limit to the drinks on offer, although we did behave ourselves given it was only lunchtime!

ambient restaurant offering contemporary cuisine. dined with set menu which includes shared tasting chef's selection and a chosen main. the shared plates were delicious however my selected main was quite disappointing. i requested for a medium rare steak but the chef is only willing to cook it medium. that made the whole dining experience negative for what it's worth. the steak was cooked almost dry to well done and the only steak sauce offered was garlic butter. i believe agoodchef should be flexible in meeting the requests of a customer, especially when steak is a common dish that is best served as requested.

when i read reviews of this venue i was optimistic, people said the food wasgoodbut after a 45min wait it was anything but.
on a monday night - a time where most restaurant trade is slow you would expect attentive, quick service and quality food.
under-seasoned.
small.
bland.
undercooked.
i cannot understand why you would make potato gnocchi the size of your fist unless you have the knife skills of a four year old with palsey..
most of the menu was unavailable and after we made a selection and the order had been processed we were told it was unavailable!

enough
let me just say that i will never be back and will be telling my friends!
pick up your game!

mediocre food, terrible service. me and 4 girlfriends were visiting bendigo for an exhibition at the gallery. only one of us had ever been to bendigo so we checked out some reviews online and wine bank lookedgoodso i booked a table. i called to let them know we were running a little late which seemed fine. when we arrived our table still wasn’t cleaned or ready but we sat by the fire by the bar for 10 mins which was fine. our table was in a small side room and it felt like we were forgotten about a litte. we had to ask twice for the wine list and kept having to attract the attention of the waiting staff. when we ordered the waitress didn’t write down our order and got confused twice and had to keep repeating what we had all ordered, i asked if she should write it down and she snapped at me 'no i do not want to write it down'. we ordered main courses and some bread and oil to start. after 40 minutes the bread still hadnt arrived, when we asked if it was coming we were told there was a delay due to a table of 25 upstairs and that all our food would be coming at the same time and the delay with the bread was due to the bread being 'in the oven'. when the bread finally arrived with the main courses it wasn’t even warm and definitely not freshly made so not quite sure what they were doing to it all that time. main courses were agreeable but no one was wowed, the best dish seemed to be the chicken and vegetable soup with crusty bread my friend ordered. when we asked to order coffees at the end we were told there was a 20 minute delay as the large table upstairs had just ordered coffees. we left without coffee and definitely without leaving a tip. shame the service is sulky and inefficient as the building is beautiful. wont be going back.

a pleasant lunch.... popped in for lunch on a very quiet monday afternoon. friendly, attentive staff brought us high quality food (we tried the sausage rolls, prawns, green beans and bruschetta) andgoodcheer.

food was clean, well prepared and tasty. the bruschetta was absolutely piled with rocket and only a very measly amount of tomato and what looked like one bocconcini ball split across two portions, which was fine, but maybe a little skimpy.

we'd definitely go back, though, maybe for dinner next time.

fabulous!. book for this one! even on a monday evening it was busy, albeit in a quietly elegant manner. open fire for ambiance (enough though it wasn't a cold night) was agoodtouch, leather sofas, walls of wine bottles, with excellent background music to funk things up a bit. attractive and friendly staff were professional and efficient, wine list great (naturally) and my dish out of this world. i had the house made gnocchi pan fried with a moroccan seafood stew and it was magnificent.
