dumplings galore! image courtesy of broadsheet.com.au ever since tom and i returned from hong kong we have become obsessed with dumplings. chinese, japanese..we aren’t choosy and with the recent explosion of dumpling restaurants around brisbane we are clearly not the only ones! so i’ve compiled a list of brisbane’s best joints to grab yourself a gyoza. happy little dumplings with multiple locations around brisbane, happy little dumplings have you covered with a range of gourmet and vegetarian dumpling options, vietnamese rolls and steamed buns. i normally hit up the barracks location (why leave your suburb if you don’t have to) and theserviceis always quick and friendly. the chinese chilli duck dumplings are to die for and you can follow up your dinner with a scrumptious mango pancake. can you say yummo! brunswick social cocktails, beer and wine? check. dumplings for all occasions? yup. a an utterly adorable resident pooch called mr chow? why of course! brunswick social is one of bri

i love this place!. a few nights ago was the fourth time i've gone to wagaya with my boyfriend. the sushi is very good, also really enjoy the ramen and eel. there is a great selection - almost too many choices! i love the cocktails and the iced green tea (it's one of the best drinks i've ever had, and i order it every time). the staff are friendly and kind, though there's less of face-to-faceservicesince you use the on-screen ordering system. i like the privacy of the booths - with small groups of people it's a fun little private party! it has a very happy atmosphere. glad to be able to validate parking as well.

wagaya has a great layout and decor, with comfortable booth seating and touch screen ordering creating a nice and upbeat vibe. however the hostess/cashier on our visit came across as grumpy and fed up which downed the mood a bit. the food was all great, but i was disappointed that the ramen noodles were just packaged dry noodles rather than homemade or a more authentic style. price range is very reasonable for meal quality and size, andserviceis always prompt and polite. all in all a great casual to smart casual restaurant.

i have absolutely no idea why wagaya has so many good reviews. 

i dined at wagaya in fortitude valley with my parents. the tablet that you order from was covered in dust and grime and looked like it had not been cleaned for a very long time. the food was also way below par. 

i ordered the beef tataki and what came out was horrendous. the beef was way over its expiry date and had brown bits in the centre of the beef. not to mention that the dipping sauce is not the classic japanese ponzu sauce as you would expect. it was sickly sweet. this was expressed to the waitress where we even showed that the dish was inedible but no apology, no replacement and no deduction from the bill. 

secondly, we waited for over 30 minutes for the spicy chicken karaage and i have to say it was not worth the wait. the colour of the chicken karaage looked so dark, bordering black, which means that the oil has not been changed for a very long time. further, there were stringy bits in the karage, which indicate that the chicken had been re-fried. 

i am very disappointed in the food and theserviceprovided at this establishment, where the concerns were vastly ignored and have to say that i will never be dining at this place ever again.

this is me being very picky,servicewas very quick, straight to our chair. was not told you have to order from the flat screen, but worked it out. drinks and food came very quick. might as well replace the staff with robots as they lacked that human touch. food was very tasty and perfect temperature. i would came here again but only as a group

one of my favourite japanese restaurants! the staff here are super friendly,serviceis quick and the sushi is amazing. we ordered a variety of dishes but my favourite would have to be the seared salmon, although everything was delicious. for dessert we ordered the creme brûlée; the custard was smooth with a crunchy element from the caramelised sugar, yum!
i ordered the green tea latte for a drink, the initial sip was nice however the more you drink the sweeter it gets ... i would definitely order a different drink next time i go.

the environment andserviceis good but the food is not worse the price. sushi tastes good but sashimi is not very fresh and they only give a little bit mustard and a slice of lime, the extra lime need $3 on the menu. i never been a japanese restaurant stingy like this... hopefully you will change it.

from the staff to the food, nothing could be faulted. beautiful fresh food, incredibly fastserviceand overall an amazing dining experience. couldn’t recommend any higher

being so close to work i am a regular the place. really good food with fastservicethrough the ordering system which is ideal for quick work lumch. really nice ambience and excellent food. chicken teriyaki is usually my go to which is a very generous portion

food- quickserviceand amazing presentation. price is quite reasonable given the goodserviceand atmosphere.
service- quickserviceand patient staff when explaining the ordering system using the monitor attached in booth.
atmosphere-great for catching up with friends. booth seats allows privacy.

overall experience was great. will definitely be back when i’m craving japanese cuisine.

we went here for dinner and had a great time. food was good andservicewas prompt and professional. excellent array of food options and the sashimi was a highlight.

good selection of food but quality a bit average. price-wise quite reasonable and good buzzing ambience. booth-style seating provides good intimacy while the digital at-table screen ordering system is a definite, if not dangerously tempting, plus!servicefunctional but we found many don’t speak very good english which can make it difficult to ask anything out of the norm. overall average dining experience worth doing once in a while for a simple catch up with friends. no split bills are allowed but in today’s world of digital money transfer doesn’t present an issue.

wagaya is a gorgeous sanctuary like restaurant in busy fortitude valley. the booths are cosy and comfortable and the ordering system andserviceare efficient and easy to use. we've enjoyed a few meals here over the last year and they have been consistently high quality. there is a huge variety of dishes to choose from and the alcohol is well priced.
