a regular favorite.. i get into waffle champion about once every 2-3 weeks, mid-week. i've never had to wait for very many people in line ahead of me, but i admit, midweek, mid-morning is when i go. after people are at work, right before the lunch crowd. i like to take a book and just relax for at least a good hour. i always get a cup of the green chile corn chowder. it is just amazing. i love it. i could eat that stuff every single day and not get tired of it. one day i keep telling myself, i'll try to potato n' leek chowder, but i just can't pass up the green chile corn chowder. i'm hooked. with that, i usually get the buttermilk fried chicken liege, but occasionally, i'll go for the pit ham or the bacon, egg, and cheese. all are great. i've never been let down. that fried chicken is just right with that honey. the pit ham with the fried pickles, outstanding. the soup though, it just completes anything. i'm a big fan of the maine root beverages. i actually think the diet maine root is sweeter tasting than the cola, but i could be crazy. like them all though. one of these days, i'm going to get myself a beer. i just never decide until right after i've ordered a soda or tea. lol. i like to try the specials on the column. they're usually pretty interesting and fun, but really, really good. the staff has never been anything but courteous. i don't know, maybe it's because i'm a 32 year old male, not far off from the guys usually behind the counter, but i'm supremely comfortable in there. people have told me my generation expects good service and complains when they don't get it. i don't know if that's true, but i admit, i expect kindness. i get it there. i give people smiles, say please and thank you, and they always do the exact same, usually going a step beyond. you treat people well, they do the same. people griping about service, ask yourself why. yes, it's their job to go above and beyond, but what exactly is the issue? are you doing something? expecting something more than just service? i've never and i mean never been treated with anything but respect and kindness there. it takes a couple minutes, but would you rather they hadwafflesjust hanging out by a heat lamp? this isn't a breakfast buffet. seating isn't overflowing, but sometimes i'm sure it's full. that's what good, busy places do. they fill up. i have been there many times when it was very busy. it wasn't overwhelmingly loud. not at all. loudest part was the talk of the customers, not the kitchen, not the music. remember, i said i take a book. if it's quiet enough i can read, i promise it's not that loud. "only one person taking orders." how many registers up there do you see? it's not walmart with 20 registers and 2 open. "place was half empty, had to wait while they assigned seating." must've been a holiday or something. i've never had to be seated there. not once. and again, i go pretty dang often. the biggest complaint if any that i have is the parking. they know it's inconvenient. there aren't many spots not marked for apartments or other businesses. that's a shame. i wish those same people were restricted to those spots. i've been there with a 100% full lot, parked a block away, and walked in with 4 people in there. every customer and staffer, and the lot wouldn't be half filled. that's just the way it is when you go to a neighborhood in a busy area. i can live with that. the food and the people more than make up for anything.
