wafflechampionis a restaurant i try and go to whenever i am in the neighborhood. i always love to try the new things on the menu everytime i go. i tried the bison and mac and cheese waffle today. it was very good, although once all the ingredients mixed together it seemed like beef stroganoff on a waffle...not may favorite food. of course, i will continue to go back and try new things. highly recommend to anyone!

after reading a recent review  of this place i realized it had been 11 months since i had been to waffle champion. there is seriously something wrong with me! and my experience only confirmed my previous 5star experience.

new menu since last time! florentine waffle was amazing. spinach, mushrooms, egg, and béchamel sauce which was absolutely delicious. i usually can't stand béchamel with its flour-y boringness. but this was absolutely flavorful - maybe because of the goat cheese that either melted into it or was infused in. o heaven!

waffle fries - fun as usual. best part is the ketchup/truffle sauces. buttermilk fried chicken - fun as usual, although i took a bite from my friend's - who had gotten it on a liege waffle (belgian, heavy yeast dough, carmelized pearl sugar) which was probably my least favorite part of the experience. the heaviness of this waffle took away. while it was overly sweet, it was an odd sweet and needed more syrup and sweetness to make it work. stick with the classic waffle.

best part was the new expediter/host system. so while we were waiting in the long line, a host greeted us and let us spot the table we wanted, showed us the large number "2" disc and told us he would save our spot. at the counter he asked us our table number, and we were off! this eliminated the "whole racing around for a seat, then losing your seat while you are getting your coffee fixed up, like they used to have" problem last time i visited. simple fix but made all the difference!

great job wafflechampionon knowing how to make a busy spot a super busy spot but still the same 5star experience - and maybe a little better!

a regular favorite.. i get into wafflechampionabout once every 2-3 weeks, mid-week. i've never had to wait for very many people in line ahead of me, but i admit, midweek, mid-morning is when i go. after people are at work, right before the lunch crowd. i like to take a book and just relax for at least a good hour. i always get a cup of the green chile corn chowder. it is just amazing. i love it. i could eat that stuff every single day and not get tired of it. one day i keep telling myself, i'll try to potato n' leek chowder, but i just can't pass up the green chile corn chowder. i'm hooked. with that, i usually get the buttermilk fried chicken liege, but occasionally, i'll go for the pit ham or the bacon, egg, and cheese. all are great. i've never been let down. that fried chicken is just right with that honey. the pit ham with the fried pickles, outstanding. the soup though, it just completes anything. i'm a big fan of the maine root beverages. i actually think the diet maine root is sweeter tasting than the cola, but i could be crazy. like them all though. one of these days, i'm going to get myself a beer. i just never decide until right after i've ordered a soda or tea. lol. i like to try the specials on the column. they're usually pretty interesting and fun, but really, really good. the staff has never been anything but courteous. i don't know, maybe it's because i'm a 32 year old male, not far off from the guys usually behind the counter, but i'm supremely comfortable in there. people have told me my generation expects good service and complains when they don't get it. i don't know if that's true, but i admit, i expect kindness. i get it there. i give people smiles, say please and thank you, and they always do the exact same, usually going a step beyond. you treat people well, they do the same. people griping about service, ask yourself why. yes, it's their job to go above and beyond, but what exactly is the issue? are you doing something? expecting something more than just service? i've never and i mean never been treated with anything but respect and kindness there. it takes a couple minutes, but would you rather they had waffles just hanging out by a heat lamp? this isn't a breakfast buffet. seating isn't overflowing, but sometimes i'm sure it's full. that's what good, busy places do. they fill up. i have been there many times when it was very busy. it wasn't overwhelmingly loud. not at all. loudest part was the talk of the customers, not the kitchen, not the music. remember, i said i take a book. if it's quiet enough i can read, i promise it's not that loud. "only one person taking orders." how many registers up there do you see? it's not walmart with 20 registers and 2 open. "place was half empty, had to wait while they assigned seating." must've been a holiday or something. i've never had to be seated there. not once. and again, i go pretty dang often. the biggest complaint if any that i have is the parking. they know it's inconvenient. there aren't many spots not marked for apartments or other businesses. that's a shame. i wish those same people were restricted to those spots. i've been there with a 100% full lot, parked a block away, and walked in with 4 people in there. every customer and staffer, and the lot wouldn't be half filled. that's just the way it is when you go to a neighborhood in a busy area. i can live with that. the food and the people more than make up for anything.

the great thing about wafflechampionis that the ingredients are all exciting gourmand offerings. there is thick cut bacon in this baby, along with free range eggs and tillamook cheddar cheese.

good food but that music...... this was our 4th trip to wafflechampionfor breakfast. the previous 3 times were enjoyable with good food and service. this time however was less than pleasant. the music was so loud that the louder the music the louder the conversations became. we thought maybe since we had my mother-in-law with us that it was just us, but a large group of parents and children came in and the children immediately put their hands over their ears. we asked a waiter if the music could be turned down a notch and he said he would. he did not. it seemed as though he turned it up louder. i think if you choose to play music it should be directed to your clientele and not your staff. we watched others eating and the louder and faster the music the faster people ate. maybe this is your plan to move tables. we don't mind the music but it shouldn't be the reason people eat at the waffle champion.

wafflechampionreview. my husband and i were so excited to eat at wafflechampionfor breakfast today! it would be our first experience to eat there. we were very disappointed as my belgian waffle was very over cooked to the point it was too hard! the cinnamon cream cheese syrup however was wonderful. the blaring music at 7:30 am left a lot to be desired! i guess if we wore dentures they definitely would be rockin! indeed a few changes are in order!

better when they were a truck. we absolutely loved wafflechampionwhen they were a food truck. we constantly raved about them to all our friends and were never disappointed with anything we tried. well, the truck is no more and now they are a restaurant. we gave it a shot and were very disappointed. the food wasn't as good and just not the same. on the truck they had sweet and savory choices, all served as a waffle sandwich. i ordered a sweet variety and when i got it, it was not a sandwich. just a bunch of toppings thrown on a waffle. and i was even missing a topping. i was informed that the sweets menu does not come sandwich style now. bummer!!! my husband ordered his debris style (toppings thrown on a waffle) and his came as a sandwich. both orders messed up. the food was alright, but it just wasn't the same. the flavor combinations that they came up with on the truck were just not there. and they had no sweet combinations at all...you were on your own to come up with one. when they were a truck, they were worth standing in line for. now, i'll pass. bring back the truck!

high expectations. i visited wafflechampionwith my boyfriend on sunday morning for breakfast. the waffles and toppings we had were quite good, and the concept is fun (overall: thumbs up for that). however, both our waffles and toppings were cold, which in turn made the waffles themselves a bit chewy/tough. i'm not sure maybe they are supposed to be served cold? it seemed to me the waffles would have been much better if they had been at least warm, it really wasn't busy when we arrived. i had heard good things about the restaurant previously, and it didn't meet our expectations. it's probably not likely that we will go back, but if i do i will ask them to warm up my waffles.

pretty good if you don't mind rubbing elbows with your neighbor. i feel like wafflechampionhas done a great thing by finding themselves a location instead of just offering truck waffles, but they certainly didn't plan out the seating well.

when we arrived, there was a long line at the door. patrons were kind enough to pass menus down (though there is no menu at the register, so be prepared and know what you want if you fork your menu over to someone else). we found that, happily, we were now able to pick creations instead of just what was on the menu (something we disliked about picking up a waffle on the side of the road). about 5 minutes in to our wait, a staff member approached, asked how many people would be in our party and allotted us a table across the way. we ordered and attempted to seat ourselves. unfortunately, there's no way we could have had 3 people at our table because although there were 2 seats at the "end" of our table and an ajoining table, there was only enough room for 1 person to sit based on how far the two tables were apart from one another. and the bench on one side of the table (providing seats for two) did not run far enough against the wall to move the table and keep the seating arrangement correct.

the food itself was good. they do offer "root" soda which i see other patrons have disliked. i like the fact that they use only cane sugar, so you know what you're ingesting unlike some of the more popular brands.

will we return? yes. but we will pray it's during a time they're not nearly as busy and hope to sit at a stand alone table instead of in the bench area that is too overcrowded. i hope that wafflechampiontakes some of these poor reviews on their seating and opts to plan it a little better (at least in another location, which i hope they open since they're so popular at this location).

scrumptious delights at waffle champion. because our brunch plans at a different establishment didn't quite turn out as we expected, we decided to brave the opening weekend crowd at waffle champion. this made for a culinary adventure in itself. we had been looking forward to enjoying their tasty fare for quite some time. we can't deny that waffle champion's second day of business was a tad chaotic. we weren't phased by this at all. when we walked in, we noticed that there were some comfy looking chairs in the front corner of this modern space. not an empty seat in sight, this was the coveted area amongst the other patrons and we couldn't blame them for that. with a flat screen on the wall and even more seating at the counter, we would have opted to sit there as well. we did spy a small table across the room and staked our claim on it, pronto. at the time, there wasn't a host available but we didn't mind that in the least. we helped ourselves to the menu and filed in line behind the others who weren't deterred by the opening weekend frenzy.

with all the classic breakfast fixings, the popular applewood bacon waffle sandwich is deliciously hearty. this particular waffle sandwich is just what the doctor ordered to bring our hazy minds into focus after a late night. both sweet and savory, our customized sweets waffle was perfection. even now, recalling the caramelized bananas, decadent marshmallow brulee and salty sweet candied bacon atop the dense leige waffle triggers an intense craving for more. seasoned with garlic and parsley, the waffle fries along with house made truffle mayo are quite addictive. we can't picture future wafflechampionvisits without an order of these fries. with an array of scrumptious delights, we will definitely return to enjoy every single one.

looks like its gonna be a hit!. decided to partake in a waffle breakfast this morning with my wife and parents.

got there around 8:30 a.m. before the brunch/church crowd.

i really like the buildout. smaller and yet more spacious than it appeared in the photos (to me anyways). the look is unique and tastefully done.

i like the ordering system.... hostess greets you and has you pick out a table and then they place a number on it to hold it for you while you order.

you then order at the counter, pay and return to your table and they bring you your food. there is a soda self-serve fountain. i had the diet mexican cola and really liked it.

prices were not bad, especially considering you could share most of the waffles.

as for food i had the applewood bacon waffle and then shared two different 'pick three' sweets consisting of 1.) caramelized banana, baked cinnamon apples and house whipped cream and 2.) house huckleberry jam, fresh berries and house whipped cream.

wife had the fresh berries, marshmallow brûlée, and caramelized bananas.

dad has the apple bacon waffle and mom shared the pick three sweets mentioned above.

when we got there, there were maybe 4-5 people ahead of us. was mostly groups of 4 and lots of people with very little kids. the atmosphere was nice, lots of natural light, and a bit noisy (which i don't mind at all).

tv's were displaying a 'no signal' on the screen which should have been addressed before opening.

took only about 5-7 minutes before we could place our order.

place looks fully staffed and everyone we encountered was friendly.

took probably 15 minutes to get our food.

the presentation was great. love the trays and the waffles themselves looked crafted and not slapped together in a hurry.

the apple bacon waffles were exceptional in all ways. the waffle itself was fluffy with just a touch of crunch and the bacon, eggs and cheese were cooked to perfection. the temperature was spot on too, very warm but not too hot. note: this waffle is huge and can easily be shared.

my second favorite was the caramelized banana, baked cinnamon apples and house whipped cream. the flavors went together very well. these are served open faced and appear to use a different style of waffle - thicker. the waffle itself was more dense than the sandwich and i would describe it as firm with more crunch but still very tasty.

my wife loved her pick three choice so much she was in no mood to share. had i know how good the marshmallow brûlée was going to be, i would have used it on one of the other pick three sweets.

the least favorite was our house huckleberry jam, fresh berries and house whipped cream. the toppings went together very well. where it fell flat was in the waffle itself. it was beyond crunchy and dense and was simply hard. had to go get a knife to cut it and everyone who had a bite commented it was a shame the waffle was so hard. so hard in fact that most ended up just eating the topping and leaving the waffle.

only other notes are - i didn't realize they had bottles of syrup (hidden under the soda fountain) until we were almost finished. would have loved to have added some to my waffles. i wish they had outdoor dinning and i think a cool bike rack needs to be on the todo list. too far for me to bike ride, but lots of patrons this morning showed up on two wheels. a canine friendly waffle would also be cool. saw a few patrons waiting outside with their pooches as their other half was inside ordering. maybe a waffle shaped dog biscuit!

so.....

location: 9/10 (love the midtown area for great locally owned venues - parking is the only let down here, but it was manageable).

atmosphere: 8/10 (really like it, would love to see some cool large canvases up with some retro images to match their look - maybe retro photos from the area - if they are not careful its going to look like some of the fancy frozen yogurt bars i've seen in okc and austin).

ordering: 7/10 (like the idea of having a table waiting for you. the only concern is wait times on food. ours wasn't bad, but it also wasn't busy. have heard from a few people their wait times have been 30+ minutes. this may just be opening pains)

food: 7/10 (this is a pretty high score for me and would probably be most people's 8 or 9. would like to see a bit more 'zip' to the sandwiches and the inconsistency of the waffle itself can be a killer at $7-$12 each.

cost: 7/10 (if you are used to sharing meals then bump it up a point, otherwise its not a bargain, but not expensive by any means either).

overall i really like this place. love that its locally owned and in a very cool location. will it be a regular lunch or even brunch stop for me? no. but that's probably more my food tastes and not how wafflechampionis being executed. if it goes 24-hours or even late night - i could definitely see visiting more when i'm in the area. definitely worth the trip to give them a try!

phenomenal. waited the other day at an event called "h & 8th" for thirty maybe forty minutes to see what the hype was about, along with everyone else (and thank god i did)!! the line had to be 100 ft long and there were two girls working the truck with ease. was the craftiest food i had ever heard of! i had a ham and cheese waffle with a fried egg, the egg gushed when i bit into it creating a masterpiece in my mouth. i encourage every person to chase wafflechampiondown.

some of the best food in okc!. went to wafflechampionbefore a thunder game last night, and after all the hype i'd heard about them online, and with a 95% rating on here, i had to give them a shot.

i ordered a ham, havarti cheese, grilled onion, cream cheese, fried egg and tomato wrap with guinness mustard. for those who are unfamiliar with the concept of this place, think "gyro" but instead of a pita, they use a very fluffy waffle! i must say, i had really high expectations for this - and it exceeded it by a long shot. the ham was super thick, the fried egg was just slightly undercooked to make sure the yolk was runny enough to cover every bite, and the cheese was outstanding.

this place is absolutely a "must eat" venue. look them up on twitter of facebook to find where they'll be and hit them up for lunch soon!
