this would have to be the best place for yum cha in sydney and judging from other reviews, i'm not the only one who thinks this way. it is very popular on the weekends and the queue can sometimes go all the way down the stairs and out the front entrance along the streets. but don't let the queue dishearten you as it does move pretty quickly. if you would rather avoid the queue altogether, it is best to go during weekdays.
interior is spacious, clean and actually quite nice. the ladies pushing the trolleys are friendly, but getting the attention of other staff to order drinks or pay the bill can be a challenge at times, as they are usually walking by really fast and preoccupied with clearing and setting up tables.
the upside to eating during the busy weekend, is that the food trolleys come around much more frequently and with more variety to choose from. the food is pretty much all the usual favourites such as prawn dumplings, chicken feet, siu mai, tripe, fried rice flour cakes with eggs, flat rice noodle prawn rolls, seafood spring rolls, salads, mango pancakes, egg tarts etc.
comparing to other yum cha places, the prices are cheaper and although there is usually a mix of good and bad dishes, the food at vinh phat is tasty and consistent. they give you your own individual, generous serving of chili sauce too, can you believe there are actual places that give you just one to share?
