the kitchen at urban table is a scratch kitchen and its comes through in their dishes with added flavors and unique combinations that are both surprising and delicious. they are committed to using fresh and local ingredients in their dishes and change theirmenufrequently, leaving on some of the favorites. they strive to be your neighborhood cafe that you want to meet with friends and stay for awhile and they truly deliver. - see more at: http://www.handmadeintheheartland.com/2014/04/kc-finds-friday-urban-table.html#sthash.ixklk95r.dpuf

we visited urban table during kc restaurant week, a weeklong restaurant exhibition where restaurants offer a prix fixemenuwith part of the proceeds going to various charities in kc. urban table offered one of the more extensive prix fixe menus, so we chose to visit them. i loved the rustic burlap and metal décor. . the restaurant was extremely dark, but i tried to get the best pictures i could. for our shared starter, we picked the trio of spreads with toasted bread, herb goat cheese, hummus and arugula pesto. the goat cheese and hummus were delicious, but the pesto had that arugula bitterness. for the soup/salad choice, we both chose the potato soup. i would describe it as almost a bacon soup but it was superb. i chose the chicken and dumplings for my entrée and the husband went with the hanger steak and mashed potatoes. he enjoyed his main course, but i found the chicken a little flavorless and dry. the mushroom gnocchi was delicious, which surprised this mushroom hater. we ended w

i actually really liked urban table, when i went. the decor was really awesome, and i thought their happy hourmenuwas pretty well done. the bartender that served us was polite, smiled a lot, and was fastidiously groomed. i looked up their regularmenuonline later that evening, and vowed to go back. work has been kind of hectic lately, so i haven't been able to. but i swear i will! in the mean time, you guys should check it out. it's got mixed reviews on urbanspoon.com, but we all know that the proof of the pudding is in the eating. so eat there and then tweet me @wannabgourmande to tell me how it was!

hit or miss. i've been to urban table a couple of times for breakfast. the pastries have alway been awesome, but the fruit salad quality fluctuated. once it was fresh and crisp, with lots of berries and grapes. another time it was mushy and not so good, just a bunch of melon, and it was spring time so i expected there might be some early berries to throw in there, but alas, it wasn't so. i ate there once for lunch. the sandwich was amazing and i really enjoyed the fries that came with it. i'm trying to talk my husband into trying it for dinner out because the dinnermenuis intriguing. i have heard people call it pretentious, and if you're new there, it can feel that way. they do things slightly differently and it takes some getting used to.

out with friends. fun place to go and the food is very good, menuitems are always done just right and their specials are always worth looking at. have eaten here a few times and it has always been good. one of the few places that knows how to serve a medium rare cheeseburger and the sweet potato fries and excellent.

awkward ordering/service. lunch was good, had the garden salad (red peppers & goat cheese were nice) and the turkey sandwich on bagel. sandwich was a little spicy, fyi. lunchmenulooks appetizing, decor inside is fitting w/ the theme & "bread & butter concepts look" (see brgr, gram & dun). pricing was no steal but in line w/ the mid-high end pv/corinth crowd i guess. on to my gripe: service. not the level of service, as that was fine, but the awkward frankenstein they try to create during the lunch hour with the counter order, table service thing. it's like they tried to emulate panera, but give you a server. they swipe your card and print a ticket when you order, take it to your table with a number you put on a table post (normal up till now), then the waiter brings your food, asks if you want drink/dessert, and reprints your ticket w/ a tip line. not a dig at the servers at all, they were very polite/professional, but i struggle with tipping when there's nothing to tip for (bring out a plate). to me, tipping is earned for constant service throughout the visit from seating to food recommendations, bringing meals to the table refilling drinks, etc.. 15 seconds of interaction when they bring your plate is difficult to warrant a 15-25% tip, so it makes it terribly awkward on deciding what to do. not sure what they're trying to accomplish with this arrangement but i have to say that it makes me think twice about going back. on one hand i don't want to stiff an 18 year old kid, but i think it dilutes what tipping is about if they just bring a plate that you ordered off a wall above a computer screen., imho.

i so want to like this place.... i really do want to like urban table, but i've been there twice (once during the weekday lunch rush and once on a weekend for lunch) and i've been disappointed both times. i think i may need to try the breakfast, which i've heard good things about, or the dinner menu. the lunchmenuhas been dry, crunchy and unimpressive. i dislike both their shoestring potatoes and their chips. the bread is always way too crunchy so that is scrapes the roof of your mouth. and i hate fighting people for seating; i understand the urban table concept, but i didn't enjoy fighting my sibilings at my parents' dinner table when i was growing up, it's much less fun with pushy strangers desperate to find a seat. i'd really like to find something i can get excited about at urban table, but so far it's all been hype.

pretty good. not sure why this place has such a low % rating. i've been quite a few times and tried a variety of items. the only thing i did not like was the chicken sandwich because the bread was too greasy and hard. breakfast and lunch has been tasty and the odessa is a must. the lunch combo is usally the best bet so you can try a few different items and the brownies are awesome! really wish they had coffee drinks and better muffins/scones. think this place would do much better if they didn't try and do lunch and dinner differently. people like to know what ot expect and from what i've read dinner is not a great experience for people.

good atmosphere. like the bench seating that feels like open air. wish they had coffee drinks and yummy baked goods. food is decent, but need to try a few more items. hopefully they will change theirmenuwith the seasons or offer some specialty items.

new years eve at urban table. it was a delightful evening of fresh and delicious foods, paired each course with remarkable companion wines. it was a setmenuwith multiple course choices. we had the butcher's tenderloin and the sea scallops - each perfectly prepared and of comfortable portion size. the crab cake opener was excellent! desserts were a wonderful way to end the meal! you have to meet the vivacious and energetic manager - emily - and learn why urabn table is quite the place for wonderful flavors and value!

very disappointed. i contacted urban spoon almost a month ago to host a semi-private event. i spoke with the gm and was told i would hear back within a few days--after 3 phone calls on my part and a week later, i finally heard back and was told i would have amenue-mailed within 3 days. that was over 2 weeks ago. the irony is the gm even said it was poor customer service on his part!
great concept and i'm sure the food is amazing, but with lack of follow-through from the top down, we won't be going there nor to brgr kitchen or gram & dun.

steampunk in the village?. the restaurant is visually striking: dimly glowing edison bulbs hang menacingly over metal and wood gurney-tables...a rusty industrial vent snakes across the ceiling...a farm table from texas chainsaw massacre dangles upside down (from meat hooks?)... darkly-grouted subway tiles provide a stark backdrop for the blood spatters from the vintage dentist stools lining the bar. ok, wait- maybe my imagination is starting to take over. that part about the blood-spatters isn't quite true. still, this place looks like it's only a matter of time until sweeney todd jumps out at you with a leather strap and a razor.

the food? it was interesting - kind of like body parts floating in a jar. we got the bruschetta because it seemed like the best deal on themenu(4 pieces of bread cut into 4 sections each = great for sharing) and the one with golden beets stood out. very good! we also got the deviled eggs and they were painted to look like bleeding eyes. (ok, ok, so i'm kidding again but the eggs were nothing special.)

it's a great location and it's nice to have something more upscale than the salty iguana or johnny's in corinth to break the monotony, but i don't know what it would take for me to return. except maybe a date with jack the ripper?

good with a large group but service was a little slow. we took a group of 11 out to urban table for dinner. the food was excellent and we were seated promptly. our server was attentive but didn't hover, which is nice. we went on a wednesday but the place was still very busy though it seemed adequately staffed. we had the toasted bread and olive oil with an addition of roasted elephant garlic, which came out in short order for a starter. the salad's took a bit longer and it was a little over an hour from when we were seated to when the food arrived. this could have been because we were a large group or just that the kitchen was busy. all the food was well received and a friend had a piece of chocolate cake for dessert which we passed around the table twice before it disappeared. the server was able to explain all themenuitems which was nice.
upshot was that the food was good, the wine and beer list extensive and the service was good. the downsides were that it took awhile to get our entree's and the environment is very loud.

pretty good. my friend and i stopped in urban table on our lunch break. the place is impressively decorated. themenuwas smaller than i expected but everything looked good. prices are a little high for what we ordered.

we received our food quickly but there was something wrong with both of our orders. my sandwich was on regular bread and themenusaid it cam on a challah roll. we were in some-what of a hurry, so i didn't ask for the sandwich to be corrected. it ended up tasting great. my friend ordered the "blta" (bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado) and the sandwich came out without the tomato. she asked for the tomato and a slice of transparent pink tomato was brought to her.
they also do not have a soda fountain, just bottled soda which is a negative in my book.
overall, i will return to try more things on theirmenuand chalk up our order mistakes to "working out the kinks" of a new restaurant.

cool hang!. went for dinner... or beers and munchies i should say... and had a great experience! i loved this place. i'd say the varsity in the bruschetta is awesome and a major selling point! we picked 4, shared them around the table and was very impressed. also had some charcuterie and sampled lots of the beers they have available! great vibe!

just browsing their breakfast and lunchmenumakes me want to come back sooner! all looks and sounds so yummy. i'd say the next visit to kc, i'll definitely be hitting this place up again!
