food was super good!!. not sure why all the negative comments, we all thought the food and service was terrific. went there tonight for our daughter's birhday, five of us. two of us had the short ribs, yummy. my husband had the burger, said it was best he has had. had the meat and cheese platter, deviled eggs and short rib flat bread, all were so good we decided we could comebackand have them for dinner. will definitely be back.. our server was wonderful too.

unacceptable!. after being overcharged twice for the same item, the server abandoned my table to go hang out behind the pastry case. he never returned again. the cook dropped cash on the table as a "refund" for overcharging me when i paid with a card, then didn't give me a receipt. i asked for a receipt, and i was given a wadded up reprinted ticket from a cashier's pants pocket (not a real receipt). all the employees were acting strange. it looked really suspicious, like a scam was going on, so i called and emailed management to give them a heads up. the gm called mebackand acted indignant and overly defensive, saying it was an honest mistake. no apologies were given, except for the creepy cook who put cash on the table. i will never bebackto urban table or brgr.

loud. i have been here several times now. i might gobackfor breakfast or lunch, but dinner has been pretty mediocre. also, the worst thing about this place is that at dinner time it is so loud, you can hardly hear the person sitting across the table from you. not a place to go on a date or for quiet conversation!

blt yum, shoestring potato fail!. i have a lot of the same things to say about this place as foodsnob. definitely reminded me of dean and deluca and the ingredients were very high quality. my blt was delicious, just the right amount of all the ingredients, but nothing was overpowering. the avocado was a very welcome touch. my friend's heirloom tomato salad was also really tasty...shows how dishes don't have to be overcomplicated to be yummy. the problem i had was that the shoestring potatoes, of which there was a huge portion that came with the blt, were just gross. they taste like stale, burnt oil. just really really gross and so disappointing. they really should just have fries. i wish i had tried the chips instead. will gobackbecause the blt was very very good, and the waitstaff was very friendly and helpful.

very disappointed. have e.... very disappointed.

have eaten lunch here before but never dinner. we thought we would try the sunday night chicken special.... called and made reservations after confirming the special as shown on the web site menu. 30 minutes later received an email from the general manager that the chicken special is no longer available. when i calledbackto talk to the manager i asked the person who answered the phone if there were any specials and she preceded to tell me about the 10 piece chicken bucket that they have every sunday night.
my experience dovetails with the other reviews i've read about bad service.

planning to return. planning to return

i finally got around to trying urban table, which i had been intending to do for quite awhile. i resisted for so long because there were a fair number of less-than-flattering reviews, so it was easy to always find somewhere else to go instead. now, having tried it, i feel compelled to write a review, as my experience was excellent and i'd hate for others to be warned off from trying it.

full disclosure: i ate at dinnertime. i've been told that the setup is different for breakfast/lunch than it is for dinner. the dinner period is a traditional arrangement where a host/hostess shows you to a table, whereas breakfast/lunch are done with a walk-up ordering counter and a find-your-own-table approach. it seems like a fair number of the negative comments about service have to do with the walk-up style, but maybe that's just an impression.

the food i ordered was well-prepared and left me feeling very content.

i started with an order of the polenta 'fries', which evoked the feeling of either extra-large french fries or small, crunchy breadsticks. using the polenta is a great idea, because the starchiness really evokes the taste of traditional fries, but makes them a little bit lighter, like bread. urban table compensated for fact that polenta can be bland with some nice black pepper seasoning and a couple of great sauces. one was a spicy "aioli", although i didn't taste much (if any) garlic, so i wondered if i wasn't eating mayo that was being called "aioli" to sound fancier. either way, it was delicious, so i suppose it's no matter. the other sauce was a ketchup that was billed as "sun dried tomato", but it tasted more like fresh tomatoes than dried ones. not complaining, as it was also delicious, just not quite what i expected.

my main course was the brisket "sammie" with sauteed onions and a horseradish cream sauce and a side of veggie-chorizo soup. while i could quibble here and there with the doneness of the meat and the fact that i prefer my horseradish with a bit more kick, the truth is that the sandwich was great. it had none of the mechanical pitfalls that gourmet sandwiches sometimes have, and the flavors were complimentary and balanced. in my opinion, if you can construct a balanced, well-engineered sandwich, you are probably pretty good at constructing other, less architecturally-intense plates. i'm eager to gobackand try an entree-style dish. as noted, my sandwich came with a bowl of soup, which was tasty, but maybe a bit slight on the amount of chorizo. regardless, the meal was filling and satisfying and didn't lack for flavor or substance.

so delicious.. went there with a friend for dinner on a friday night. our wait was very minimal, maybe 5 minutes? our waiter came pretty quickly and took our drink order. the restaurant itself is decorated beautiful. very modern but also inviting. my friend didn't like the metal table tops but not a big deal.
i had the prosciutto & fig stuffed chicken breast. it was absolutely yummy! i can't think of one thing to complain about it.
my friend had the braised short rib. the ribs just fell apart. the sweet potatoes was beyond good and the sauce all over? amazing!
we both ate everything and left very happy and full.
awesome place. we will definitely bebacksoon.

very disappointed. i contacted urban spoon almost a month ago to host a semi-private event. i spoke with the gm and was told i would hearbackwithin a few days--after 3 phone calls on my part and a week later, i finally heardbackand was told i would have a menu e-mailed within 3 days. that was over 2 weeks ago. the irony is the gm even said it was poor customer service on his part!
great concept and i'm sure the food is amazing, but with lack of follow-through from the top down, we won't be going there nor to brgr kitchen or gram & dun.

hmmm. close this place down for dinner. i think they could fire the bad servers and then focus on easier items.

do not eat dinner here!!. i heard the breakfast here is really good. my friend said to go because she had a good experience at breakfast, and i wanted to try something new. my experience was not like hers with the breakfast. we had to wait at our table for 30 minutes before our waiter took our order. to make up for it he gave us an option for a free dessert. i thought okay all is forgiven. then the food came out and the chicken was basically chicken jerky, like it had been under lamps for hours. finally the waiter asked if i wanted it boxed and i said no bother it is dry and he said you are right it is really dry!! then he camebackand said mine was taken care of. i have to say that this is the first place i have eaten that i didn't actually eat most of my meal. it was really lacked any seasoning and my friend said his was bland as well. we were very disappointed!

cool hang!. went for dinner... or beers and munchies i should say... and had a great experience! i loved this place. i'd say the varsity in the bruschetta is awesome and a major selling point! we picked 4, shared them around the table and was very impressed. also had some charcuterie and sampled lots of the beers they have available! great vibe!

just browsing their breakfast and lunch menu makes me want to comebacksooner! all looks and sounds so yummy. i'd say the next visit to kc, i'll definitely be hitting this place up again!

nightmare service. food was good but who cares when everything else was a catastrophe. waited 20+ minutes for an appetizer, but it took so long our entrees beat the appetizer to the table. we told the waiter we still wanted the appetizer and had to tell him to takebackour entrees so they wouldn't get cold. waited another 20 minutes and then the wrong appetizer was delivered to our table. waited another 10 minutes to finally get what we ordered. beverage glasses were left empty way too long. the waiter apologized and offered us a free dessert . . . .so what if we didn't want dessert after waiting an hour to get what we ordered?? the manager was no where to be found. i expected more from the group that did brgr. never going back.

great place for small plates and conversation. urban table seems to focus on fresh ingredients and smaller plates, inviting guests to linger and enjoy drinks and conversation. the inside area is a bit crowded, so i would recommend requesting seating in the enclosed patio area, or even outdoors on a pleasant evening. they only offer four entrees, and those entrees will changed based on the season and availability of items. i was a bit surprised mussels showed up as an entree, and frankly they were a bit overpriced as other places will list them as a starter and charge less. we love mussels though and they were good, although not great. a bit chewy, although the broth was excellent.

but i think where urban table excels is the small plates it offers. they have a great array of starters - we got the poutine, which is hard to find in a lot of places. its not for those with heart conditions, but man is it good. a bit skimpy on the gravy (perhaps to save us from ourselves?) i think what will keep people comingbackthough is the bruscetta offering. its $13 which may give some pause, but you really get a huge offering of bruscetta. and not a scoop of tomato on top of a crusty circle of bread. its wonderfully char-grilled soft bread with a delicious array of toppings - you can choose four out of the 8-10 they offer. its a huge dish that really should be split among a party of four. the smoked salmon was outstanding and we also enjoyed the avocado and crimini mushrooms.

they also offer very reasonably priced platters of meats and cheeses, sandwiches less than $10, and no entree was over $14. the pasta dishes i saw going to other tables looked good and i would love to try their breakfast sometime. i think we'll be comingbackas this restaurant seems to offer a bit of a different experience and different dishes than you can find in the area, and the prices are reasonable that we can try lots of different things. definitely a welcome addition to the area.

edit: i have now had the chance to try their lunch twice and i can safely say you can skip their lunch options. very surprised how boring and bland they are. the chicken salad sandwich was burnt, and the salad itself was just large chunks of chicken with very little dressing or anything else. the blt was something i could have made myself for much cheaper, and probably better. the shoestring potatoes are sawdust and overseasoned. i would have expected more creativity from them, but lunch is very disappointing. the salad and soup is pretty good, stick with that if you must lunch there.

nicely done!!. on opening day, i met a friend for breakfast. so many things looked good, that we knowingly over-ordered because we couldn't decide. we ended up getting the irish steel cut oatmeal, a selection of mini waffles (pistachio white chocolate, orange marmalade, and dark chocolate lavender), a slice of cinnamon coffee cake, and an orange scone. everything was fantastic! i did ask if their pastries are brought in or made in-house, and they assured me that everything is made fresh daily in-house. as a side note, i love their serving pieces.
the next night (tonight), my husband, a friend, and i went for dinner. i saw their nightly specials posted on facebook, and couldn't say no to their pasta selection (garganelli, arugula & red onion marmalade, sweet corn cream). we also were excited to order from their bruschetta offerings. additionally, we opted for an order of deviled eggs to start, and a whoopie pie to end. again, everything was spot-on. very impressive for their second night open! the place was packed (we waited about 20 minutes, not bad), but the service was good, considering. our friend ordered the dd truffle gc sandwich (brie, fontina, fresh figs and preserves, truffle butter, challah bread). i had a bite, and it made me want to gobacklater this week for lunch so i can have a whole one all to myself.
kudos to the urban table team for an incredible opening!
