good food...good people. my husband and i recently went to unclemick'son the recommendation of others. the food is cafeteria style, and the awesome thing is that they will let you taste a sample of anything and everything on the line before placing your order. everyone was very friendly and uncle mick was right up front serving the customers.

the food is of course cajun and there were about 6 entrees & 6 sides to choose from. both our meals were hearty and delicious. just enough spice for a weakling like me. they are also very generous with their portions & the bread! they will even give you seconds if you like. they have a great little patio in the back that is covered and decorated with all the kitchy fun decor you might expect in cajun restaurant. we will definitely be back for more.

unclemick'scajun market & cafe was off the charts delicious the day we visited here with our miata club!! uncle mick himself was at the steam table and was extremely generous and gracious to allow us samples of many of the menu and side items. it was wonderful and astute of him to do this. we  all were so very pleased at all of our tastings and it helped speed along our decision making too!! my hubby had the grilled tilapia with lemon butter sauce with tomato & feta cheese salad and corn maque choux as is his sides (all so very tasty). i had both the shrimp a la creme and crab au gratin which were truly outstanding. my sides were the cajun potato salad which was great and a deviled egg. we split up our meal so we could share it with one another and we both raved on & on with this excellent choices we made due to the samplings we tasted. one of the line cooks brought out freshly made corn bread muffins which were heavenly!! along with a fabulous homemade pecan pie, which we both split (sadly i forgot to add the bourbon sauce on the side of it, to my hubby's consternation). we all agreed that we must return to this site soon to taste some more of unclemick'smenu!!

3/18/2017 - came back home to visit my dad and we all went to unclemick'sfor dinner. working in lexington, ky, there are a couple of really good cajun joints (gumbo ya ya & bourbon and toulouse) which i can compare with mick's.

first, let's say prattville needs a cajun restaurant. second, i'm not a big seafood eater but my wife is (she's from mobile). but, i'm game for most new adventures.

here's how i see it - mick seems to be a genuine article (even though he was born right in montgomery) and spent 17 years cooking with another person who taught him how to cook cajun. he's got it down. the shrimp à la crème is unbelievably good - and i'm not a fan of shrimp. the crawfish étouffée over dirty rice is also very good. the corn maque choux and cucumber salad round out the sides.

some suggestions - the garlic bread needs a kick. the two lexington restaurants add a little old bay or cajun spice in their butter which is dowsed on the garlic bread. it's amazing. also, they fill a large plate full of rice and add the entree choices (the same or a split) over rice (no sides). i'd think adding this choice in the place of the sides would be a good idea.

overall, good place. will come back when we visit prattville.

my husband has always been a huge fan of unclemick'sand so when i moved from the west coast here, i had to try it out.

we eat there at least once a month and drive up from montgomery.  bar none, this is the friendliest service you'll get in town.  uncle mick himself will serve you with his famous "try before you by" - you get to try every entrée before you choose.

my regular is a split entrée with shrimp a'la creme and alligator sauce piquant or a gumbo.  two sides: one of his delicious beans sides, always with the cajun potato salad. his home-made french garlic bread (he keeps giving you more and more) and to take home (you just don't have space), his bourbon bread pudding.

the place is the cleanest restaurant i've eaten in - you can eat off the floor :d  mickey decorated and cleans the place himself.  there's also a private dining room at the back if you want to book it for a large party of people, or you can eat there if it's not booked.  our #1 choice in town.

can't get enough uncle mick's. located in downtown prattville this place is a real cajun treat and find. while we live mere blocks from unclemick'si assure you we never miss a chance to drop in an enjoy a great meal. the hospitality is authentic and just down right feel good. it has become fun for us to hear others who have traveled from states away brag on his food while visiting because we get to feel lucky living just blocks away. "can't get enough of uncle mick's"

a true gem just a few miles off i-65 near montgomery, al!. my husband and i were floored by the delicious food, the inviting atmosphere, and the wonderful hospitality shown by uncle mick and his daughter. we both agreed that we don't know when we have enjoyed a meal any more. it's just like dining at a friend or family member's home, but with better food!

we were greeted with what i'm sure is his standard greeting, "welcome, welcome. what'd you have last time?" when we answered back that it was our first time in and were traveling from out of town, he treated us just like any good southerner would - he offered us anything and everything he had, and treated us as though we were an everyday customer. after making the difficult decisions of choosing our entrees and selecting some bourbon bread pudding, his daughter offered to keep the dessert up at the counter until we finished our meal. that way she could either heat it up or send it home with us - just in case our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. justin polished his meal off but i decided to take half of mine with me so i could enjoy it again for dinner and so i could dive into that bread pudding! lets just say i'm glad my hubby was driving because there's a reason they call it bourbon bread pudding - it's stout! while enjoying our dessert (ahem, licking the plate), uncle mick came by to chat with us. we discussed our trip, his reasons for opening the restaurant back in 2009, how we found out about his restaurant (google maps & their local restaurant map) and of course, our desire for him to expand into a second restaurant in nashville. i have no doubt the food would be just as phenomenal, but the experience would certainly be lacking without uncle mick himself.

we are looking forward to our next trip down south and definitely recommend that next time you are driving down i-65, you make the 6-8 mile trip off the interstate to unclemick'son main st. i promise you'll be glad you did!

church choir. visited unclemick'swith my church choir. the serving line is a little on the "fast food, burger doodle" side of things, but the line allowed thirty folks to be individually served in an efficient manner. the food was wonderful! some of our group were skeptical of cajun food. the group left with a favorable impression and the majority said they would return (some folks are stuck on meat and potatoes and don't appreciate anything new). i certainly will return when passing through prattville and i might even make a special trip just to eat at uncle mick's. give them a try!

very good. unclemick'sis about a mile from my house and that is a good thing. along with good food is a very friendly atmosphere. sampling are encouraged so you get just what you want. i suppose the only thing i would ask is that the portions could be larger. :)

dkrumpe1. went to unclemick'sbased on us reviews. it was well worth the trip. um's is located in downtown prattsville, away from all the food chains and motels at the the interstate exit. when we travel we like to use us and other apps to find places where the locals eat and we've never been disappointed. uncle mick and his crew were outstanding and treated us as though we would be back soon. food was excellent and uncle mick gave us samples so we really knew what we we getting. not that far from montgomery and andrews afb.

disappointing - i would not take my cajun friends here. my husband and i went to unclemick'sfor the first and last time. we are both native orleanians and i spent four years living in cajun country in lafayette, la. we both know what is and isn't cajun or creole food. and make no mistake the two are not the same. we are always looking for a taste of home in the montgomery area. we seldom find it.

as a native orleanian, what passed for seafood gumbo was a major disappointment. gumbo needs to be thick and dark and filled with large shrimp and crab legs and okra. this was a thin soup with miniscule shrimp and no crab or okra. either file or okra are necessary to make gumbo thick. and i wonder did the cook start with a dark roux? the taste was okay, but not the rich dark flavor of an authentic gumbo.

the crab au gratin was bread and cheese. i could not find one sliver of crab. crab au gratin should not include bread. crab au gratin should contain crab meat, butter, celery, green onions, parsley, cream of mushroom soup, american cheese and vermouth or white wine. i ate the "bready" stuff hoping at least for a taste of crab, but was again disappointed. i left the cheese behind as there was way too much of it.

the "french-like" bread was soggy. oh, dear, french bread needs to be crisp and hot so that it crumbles when you bite into it.

my husband had crawfish etouffee which was passable, but not authentic. he also had a shrimp dish that had decent sized shrimp in it, but lacked the flavor used in southwest louisiana.

on to dessert -- the bread pudding with whiskey was pretty good -- probably the best thing on the menu and pretty close to authentic.the caramel cake was also good.

the person behind me in the line said to me, "you won't be disappointed no matter what you get." sadly, i was disappointed. i felt full when i left, but not satisfied.

the owners and server were lovely gentlemen and i admire them for trying. and they seemed busy so i guess the local prattville folks are happy with the food.

incredible!. this place is beyond delicious! i love how the owner will give you samples... had there not been a line behind us to order i would have sampled everything! my shrimp in a cream sauce and alligator piquant were both outstanding, as was the corn and deviled eggs. my husband's dirty rice and chicken and sausage gumbo were to die for! at the end, we split a bread pudding with bourbon sauce... again, delicious.

the service was impeccable, and the food was some of the best i've had in montgomery. next time i drive through, unclemick'sis going to be a must visit. really... you have to go. trust me, you won't be sorry!!

awesome. we were in town almost two weeks before we found unclemick'sonline. when traveling we like to try small local restaurants and we can only say wow, it was the best food we have had during our stay in montgomery. the place is so clean and being able to try small samples really helps you decide what you would like to eat. my husband had the alligator & sausage sauce piquante with red beans & rice and cajun potato salad and i had curried shrimp, crab meat au gratin and black eyed peas. finished off with bread pudding w/bourbon sauce. we may even go back tomorrow night if we have the time.
