we visited this restaurant because it was on diners, drive-ins and dives.  the thing that is different about this place is that they serve some game burgers. outside twisted root burger inside photo inside photo orders are placed at the counter and you are given a card with the name that they will call you.  jeff was james bond and i was kate gosselin.  it was pretty funny to watch people go up as their names were called like "the fonz" and "richard nixon".  i really had a hard time making a decision on what type of burger to order.  every burger that they had which was one of their "favorites" had something that i didn't like.  i could have built mine own, but decided to just take off the item i didn't like.  i ended up ordering the big tex – cheddar, guac, fried onion strings & chipotle sauce.  i took the guacamole off.  the burger was good, but nothing special.  i ordered a side order of fried pickles.  they were okay, but not as good as smashburger. big tex burger with fried pickle

enjoy a twisted root beer and burger. lots of options about at the twisted root burger company. burger options, pickles, beer, sodas and sides. for lunch i opted for the twisted root beer both the watermelon flavored (good at first taste - but not good for a full glass) and then the regular (which was amazing). for my burger option i went with the big tex (cheddar, guacamole, fried onion strings & chipotle sauce) with one of their homemade veggie patties (black beans, chick peas and quinoa). i went boring on the side and opted for fries. i did try several of their pickles and several of their sauces on the table (bbq, chipotle) which helped spice up the fries. overall a great lunch for around $10.

wanted to like it but..... i have heard so many good things about twisted root... i thought i would love it. t.r. has a great atmosphere, like a place you would find in austin. however, their food is very over priced and nothing special. the homemade root beer that they make such a big deal about tasted like cough syrup. bottom line... you want a great burger go to kelly's eastside in plano or jcs for half the price of t.r.

i'm in love. if i wanted to open a burger joint, i'd have to pass. i'd concede the game to these guys. i don't know of another place in the area that sells burgers made with grass-fed beef. there are other places to get buffalo burgers, but venison? elk? ostrich? alligator? ok they were out of alligator when i went, but the elk burger was amazing. they make everything from scratch, and when i say everything i mean down to the pickles and ketchup.

on top of all that, the place is fun. the employees (except maybe the obviously-new guy who took our order) all seemed to be having a great time, and so did the customers. and there were a lot of those - we had a bit of a hard time finding a place to sit.

one of the things made from scratch is their root beer, which comes in two flavors. i passed on the butter pecan and went for the classic, which was delightful. i'm a bit of a root beer connoisseur, so i've been around the block, and this wouldn't make my top 10 or anything, but it was quite nice. possibly top 20, and it might rank higher if they'd serve it in a cold mug rather than out of the soda fountain machine, so i could more perfectly experience the flavor.

i went for two burgers: the buffalo and the elk. i got the elk plain, because elk meat is so delicately delicious that i couldn't bear to overpower it with bold toppings. i was not disappointed. the buffalo i got because i'd momentarily forgotten about the venison option, which i would otherwise have gone for. there, i went for the bleu cheese jalapeno setup, since i know buffalo goes nicely with bleu cheese. like almost everyone everywhere, they put entirely too many jalapenos on the burger, but that was easy to correct, and i ended up with a second very nice burger.

all in all, it's my new favorite burger joint, eeking out angry dog, who still makes the best-tasting beef burgers i've had so far.

solid burger. tough to argue with the burgers here. excellent. i go for the mushroom version as it is delicious. also the milkshakes are think and made to order. this place deserves to be ranked up with balls as one of the best burger places in town.

had a great meal with our large group of 10 people. service was great. seating was readily available. food was out quickly and fresh. shakes were the bomb! would totally return to this location. very convenient to the aquatic center. didn’t get to use the porch, but that would make for a great place to enjoy your meal. 10 thumbs up from our crew!

really good burgers and root beer. they used to have amazing homemade sweet potato chips, but for some unknown reason they have removed them from the menu. the housemade chips were pretty good but not as good as the sweet potato chips. the horseradish dijon sauce is really good on everything. today the rootbeer of the day was coffee brownie which was amazing. my husband had the fat elvis shake which was rich and tasty.

first time customer was not aware the burger did not come with french fries. the order taker did not help with the menu knowing we were first timers. the verde was my choice in burger and was pleased, but my beer was in a tasters size cup at regular size price. the atmosphere was good but an employee turned all big screens to a non local soccer game while a local team, the rangers were playing and winning.

an average burger and the fries were ok. nothing to write home about. on the plus side, tried a few local beers that were good. not a fan of pickles but lots of people were enjoying them. ok at best.

we used to go to twisted root regularly when we lived in the dallas area. everything was always good. lots of options for burger toppings and add ons, and the sides are all good. they are a bit pricey, but it is also much better options than your usual fast food spot. plenty of drink options as well, their house made root beer is tasty, and the pbr tall boys are reasonably priced. another great feature is the house made pickle station with several great pickles, that act as a great appetizer while waiting on your meal, and the specialty sauces like horseradish dijon, and chipotle ketchup and so on. so a great place to try, just a bit pricey.

heard great things about this place and was eager to try it. went on a sunday for lunch. the place was packed. you order at the counter and i was a little disappointed that you couldn't get a traditional burger with plain old onion on it. only pickled onions were available and at a pricey extra cost. two burgers with fries and 1 off brand soft soft drink and a milkshake came to about $35. my son liked the milkshake but neither of us were impressed with the burgers. they weren't bad just not good enough to merit the price

i would rate this location a 5, but of all the tr locations i have visited the daytime manager is the stingiest with the ranch dressing on the ranch hand burger.  on the last two occasions that i visited the location in richardson for lunch, the same guy shorted me on the ranch dressing and demanded more money to make it right.  the locations in allen and deep ellum give a consistent generous helping and i told the guy that this location is different than the other ones.

he gives less than a f### and wants to charge extra for what the other places give standard.  i am tagging him to be the "ranch nazi."  i am going to visit the other locations from now on and take this one off the rotation.

the portion size on the fries at this location is equivalent to a mcdonald's small fry and the pork skins are the biggest rip off on the menu.  they gave me about 14 pork skins that were maybe 3-4 grams total in weight.  you would have got a bigger portion from a $0.50 vending machine bag.

tour:  the plano-richardson tour joint:  twisted root burger co main fare (burger): jack and i split the 1/2 pound hamburger with american cheese.  it comes with a leaf of lettuce and one thin slice each of onion and tomato.  the patty is uniform throughout its length, and fits nicely into the toasted poppy seed bun, which provides a good meat to bun ratio.  they use an oversize slice of american cheese, which provides plenty of cheese flavor on the 1/2 pound beef patty. the burger is nicely seasoned to bring out the flavor of the meat... without making it too salty.  the beef is cooked well done.  the texture is firm, but not quite chewy; there is some moisture left in the patty, but it could not be called juicy.  i will ask for something less than well-done next time. there are no pickles served with the burger, but you can help yourself to homeade pickles (spicy or regular) at the counter where you pick-up your order. other fare (everything else): the twisted french fries are seasoned curly fries with some skins left on.  because three of us shared a basket of french fries and sweet potato chips, i kept getting hints of cinnamon and sugar on the fries. plus, i didn't get a chance to try them with ketchup.  they were good. sweet potato chips were very good, however with the sugar and cinammon, seem to make an odd pairing with the hamburger.  they are thin and crispy without seeming greasy.  after finishing my 1/2 burger, i find myself coming back to these chips again and again.  maybe a good dessert option? the oreo shake was quite good, and presented in a tall glass made for a milkshake.  the homeade ice cream makes everything it touches taste better....  yum. the root beer float ... what can i say  homeade ice cream and homeade jamaican rum root beer.  this may have been the best root beer float - ever!   atmosphere: this place is too nice to be considered a joint, but still maintains a neigborhood feel... and the quirky vibe of something a bit different than th

it is a good burger joint. by no means a top 10 burger that i've tried- but still much better than average and one of the best options in the area. can get really busy- so i recommend going at an off hour.
