new favorite. our first visit. found tonto bar & grill on the list for arizona restaurant week. what a great place!. pretty grounds and nice southwest ambience. we selelcted from the special menu for restaurant week. our server, tanya was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. our starters were the beet salad and the arugula/brie salad. both generous, well composed with house made dressings. we both selected the pork schnitzel entree with german potato salad and green beans and carrots. it was fabulous! gorgeous presentation and very delicious. desserts were the grapefruit cake and a warm chocolate buttermilk cake with chocolate ganache sauce and pecan ice cream. we were so happy and so full. we'll be stopping back this summer, the menu looked really good and the special sounded delicious. a+.

beautiful atmosphere with outstanding service. i like the all day menu they offer. they offer maybe a half dozen different salads with a choice of a half dozen different proteins and dinner all day. i ordered a salad that was big and fresh. my salmon was cooked nice and was good but didn't seem like the best quality to me. since this salad cost $15.50 i was expecting a little better but it still was ok. i did notice they offer grass fed beef and local beef so i might have enjoyed something beef better here. i do plan to give them another try sometime.

best. favorite is park schnitzel with warm potato salad - yummy! have yet to have anything otehr than a wonderful meal here.

we participated in arizona's restaurant week fare for $40(appie, entree, dessert) and enjoyed the patio over looking the fairway and the attentive service. food was good (crab cakes were lovely) but my salmon just had too much going on and rather than highlight the qualities of the ingredients, it overpowered the meal by trying to fit it all in on one plate. my husband had the short rib which was tender. we liked our experience but for the price of "admission", it was not good value for money. dessert was in line with the price point. detailed and delicious.

tonto sits on the former rancho mañana dude ranch, now the pretty beautiful rancho mañana golf resort, and pays tribute to its native american and western heritage and history through its philosophy, menu, décor, etc.

fabuous dinner!. we arrived at 8 for dinner. it was a beautiful evening at this time of the year and nicole our server was very friendly and attentive. she even took a nice picture of us!
my husband ordered the filet with ancho chili rub and sauce along with manchego cheese scalloped potatoes! the sauce under the steak was soo good, and so was everything else.
i ordered their special, which was the trout with a butter dill sauce, along with the german potatoes and white asparagus! the trout was seasoned so well and was cooked perfectly!
we also had a cup of gazpacho before dinner and the combination of flavors was the best i've ever had. we really enjoyed our dinners and will definitely be back. i hear their burgers are the best too! we will be back for lunch next time when we can enjoy the golf course view during the day!

spotty food and service. i have been a regular at this charming, rustic restaurant, but every time i have gone lately the food has been worse. the views are still spectacular and the ambiance is nice, but at these prices, the food needs to improve.

go broke on bad food. nice atmosphere, but the food is never the same twice. some things are good, others are terrible. service varies from night to night, and when it gets busy you will wish you went somewhere else to eat. the prices are way too high for what you get. oddly enough, cartwrights just north up the road, is unbelievably good and they are owned by the same group. go figure. never had a bad meal or experience at cartwrights, but never had a good meal or great experience at tonto. it is a mystery.

what a great place to sit outdoors overlooking the beautiful green and desert mountains! the food was fabulous! we arrived around 4:30 pm in time to enjoy the evening's waning and was able to dine for a couple of hours. i would rate this restaurant more like $$-$$$ for the meals and highly recommend that you always confirm the cost for alcoholic drinks before ordering. we had a little baileys in our evening coffee for which were charged $8 plus the cost of the coffee! each of us (4) had one drink and only two of us coffee with the baileys and our bill was more for the liquor than the food. service started out great, but our server was moved inside when it got busy and then we were abandoned. would definitely go back but have learned a few things.

great food. southwestern cowboy atmosphere. good service. comfortable place to eat. a place a little out of the ordinary. fits in with the kind of place you would expect to find in carefree, az.
