like many americans, i love chinese food. there's just something great about it. it doesn't matter if i'm eating in a sit down restaurant or standing in a tiny takeout place gazing up at the severely outdated pictures of entrees from the 70's with a kitchen that would probably fail every health inspection imaginable. i love it. i also love sushi. i could eat infinite amounts of sushi, especially if its good. located on elmwood avenue, in an area where there are great places for food in every direction, is the toyko shanghi bistro, a fantastic place for chinese and japanese cuisine. the menu is gigantic, the prices are low, and the service is fantastic. on tuesday nights they offer half price on allsushirolls. nicole and i have been here many times but this is the first i've been back since starting this blog so i wanted to share the experience. if you have been reading my blog regularly you would know that just recently i started eating meet again. its strange how after not eating me

i’m not certain why i haven’t written about tokyo shanghai bistro sooner. it was one of the first asian restaurants i found when i moved to buffalo and it’s been a safe place to return to again and again. first off, there’s a paid parking lot behind the bistro where we can usually find a place to park. that’s the first win. second win: it’s almost never crowded. i love that! and i’m not certain why? i’ve never had a bad experience, and i’ve had plenty of experiences. third: tokyo shanghai has great, freshsushirolls. it’s my hubby’s favorite place and i know that their asparagus rolls and cucumber and avocado rolls are going to be fresh and filling. i love the futo maki rolls to no end–they’re made with pickled veggies which might sound weird, but thesushirice is seasoned with sugar and vinegar anyways, so it totally works. also, and i’m not exactly certain if it’s still going on, so double check me here, but they have half offsushihappy hours on tuesdays and thursdays, and you just can’t go wrong with that. we’ve tried a few of the appetizers and will typically land on the crab rangoon for a guilty indulgence. i wouldn’t necessarily say they’re buffalo’s best — i’ve already discovered buffalo’s best crab rangoon — but they never disappoint. i’ve branched out and tried lots of actual dinner entree dishes  and i’ve enjoyed them all. from vegetable fried rice (there is so much) to the mixed vegetables with garlic sauce , its all been amazing! the ingredients are always fresh, flavorful, and always, always, beautiful. even my husband’s general chicken looks gorgeous. the service is always great, we’re sat immediately, the food comes out in good time, and it’s a little on the pricier side, but i would say the value is definitely there. for a restaurant i visit so much, this review is shockingly short, especially for me. so just take my word for it: tokyo shanghai bistro is certainly a winner for vegans and vegetarians whensushicomes into play. check this elmwood

good experience. my best friend and i were in the mood for some sushi. it was already 10 o'clock at night and most restaurants were closing. luckily, we stumbled upon tokyo shanghai bistro and were delighted when we found out that they were closing at 11:30 pm that saturday night. when we arrived, we noticed that the place was mostly empty. a lady at the front desk welcomed us and ushered us to our table. at that time, there were about six tables occupied. the place had numerous tables and was relatively spacious. there was even a bar situated at the back of the restaurant. overall, the establishment gave off an intimate vibe. our server greeted us and gave us the menus. we ordered the shrimp and chicken fried rice, as well as three differentsushirolls: the dynamite, tuna, and philadelphia rolls. while waiting, they served us fried noodles and duck sauce as an appetizer. it was pleasant and it made us look forward to our food. the fried rice came relatively quick. the chicken wasn't bad, but the yellow rice was dry. both my friend and i agreed that it was mediocre fried rice. thesushirolls came 10 minutes later. they all tasted great, but i especially loved the dynamite roll. my friend and i weren't able to finish all the food, but all in all, tokyo shanghai bistro provided good food for an affordable price. oursushicravings were definitely satisfied! i learned that they also deliver, which is a major plus! i will definitely come back.

always a goodsushiplace and then some. my husband and i have been going to tokyo shanghai bistro for years. the servers are always pleasant, the food is always good, and we can get in and out in a timely matter. i'm pescetarian, so thesushiand veggie rolls are always something i can enjoy here, but sometimes i branch out. the food is great but the portions are very large, so unless it's something that saves ok like fried rice (which i got once and it was pretty good) or if my husband is up for splitting it, i don't usually order entrees. the crab rangoon is pretty tasty too; maybe not the best in the area but definitely good when we're in the mood.

the atmosphere is great, the restaurant is clean, and there's a paid parking lot behind the building so i've always been able to find someplace close to walk. overall, i like it, it's a good place to get some sushi, especially if you can catch it at the half-off mark (tuesday and thursday evenings)!

awful service. i always give this place chances because the food is good but the service is awful. people sat down 10 minutes after us and got their appetizers before we did. we got soup as one of them when you know all they have to do is spoon it out from a read made pot. oursushientrees came out before the soup salad and eggroll that we ordered. noticed that other diners were in either their service or their food. glad we didn't have somewhere to be on a time crunch because we were waiting 30 minutes before the waiter came by with food. had to flag him down and let him know we still had nothing. looks like i will stick to the take out.

the waiter took forever to take our order and then thesushiwas extremely slow in getting to our table. my fried rice came quickly however and looked like that one might get at a mall food court. each persons meals came several minutes apart and so we were finishing at different times. thesushiwas poorly packed and not very decorative. that being said it was still pretty tasty. although i have had better.

the temperature of all the fish served made everyone at the table question how safe it was for consumption, and the rice seemed looked and tasted like the white rice served with chinese take-out rather than carefully prepared and seasonedsushirice. it did not stick together well, resulting in unevenly rolled maki and hard to eat nigiri.

good. having grown up in nyc i have high expectations for chinese food. this place is decent. the japanese food is the best thing to order. not the bestsushibut good none the less. their chinese is typical buffalo take out however it seems to be of a higher quality. the general tso's is disappointing because its usually dried out and stringy pieces of meat. other dihes seem to be good. i don't know why they serve thai but they need to leave it alone, the worst thai i've had hands down, take it off the menu!

great sushi, nice atmosphere. i can't speak for their other cuisine but thesushiis top quality. unlike some othersushirestaurants in buffalo there was lots of room to sit. thesushiis very affordably priced and they have a large menu with lots of choices besides sushi. nice for a large group with different tastes.

just a short time ago tokyo shanghai bistro opened their doors on elmwood ave (near toro) and i was fairly skeptical. they offer an interesting mix of japanese and chinese and sushi. in my experience, a chinese buffet withsushiis never a good idea, but

food was great, and the service was wonderful. the food came pretty fast in comparison to most othersushiplaces, and it was well made in a reasonable price. overall i enjoyed dining there and would definitely visit it again when i return to buffalo.
