tokyo shanghai bistro

wow.. i've eaten at a lot ofchineserestaurants in my day but this one delivered from day one.i love dumplings and the pork gyoza did not disappoint. the lemon chicken for my kids was a nice departure from the usual syrupy deep fried fare. this one had tender ,lightly breaded chicken and a subtle but perfect lemon sauce.they should give lessons to other restaurants on how to make sesame chicken. beef teriyaki,shrimp tempura and thai chicken in a peanut curry rounded out our first of many meals.service was nice, restaurant was clean and great attitudes on the staff.we live in north bflo but will make this a regular spot for dining and takeout. i need another thumb to reflect how i feel about our first visit. (all thumbs would be in the up position)

like many americans, i lovechinesefood. there's just something great about it. it doesn't matter if i'm eating in a sit down restaurant or standing in a tiny takeout place gazing up at the severely outdated pictures of entrees from the 70's with a kitchen that would probably fail every health inspection imaginable. i love it. i also love sushi. i could eat infinite amounts of sushi, especially if its good. located on elmwood avenue, in an area where there are great places for food in every direction, is the toyko shanghi bistro, a fantastic place forchineseand japanese cuisine. the menu is gigantic, the prices are low, and the service is fantastic. on tuesday nights they offer half price on all sushi rolls. nicole and i have been here many times but this is the first i've been back since starting this blog so i wanted to share the experience. if you have been reading my blog regularly you would know that just recently i started eating meet again. its strange how after not eating me

the temperature of all the fish served made everyone at the table question how safe it was for consumption, and the rice seemed looked and tasted like the white rice served withchinesetake-out rather than carefully prepared and seasoned sushi rice. it did not stick together well, resulting in unevenly rolled maki and hard to eat nigiri.

good. having grown up in nyc i have high expectations forchinesefood. this place is decent. the japanese food is the best thing to order. not the best sushi but good none the less. theirchineseis typical buffalo take out however it seems to be of a higher quality. the general tso's is disappointing because its usually dried out and stringy pieces of meat. other dihes seem to be good. i don't know why they serve thai but they need to leave it alone, the worst thai i've had hands down, take it off the menu!

worst thai food ever. but i probably should have guessed that since it's primarily achinesefood restaurant. needless to say, stay away from the thai entrees. shame on you, tokyo shanghai, if you're going to have limited thai options, you should at least do them well.

veggie duck dreams.. i have a sincere addiction to this place. i must eat here about once a week. we've never had to wait to be seated, the staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, the restaurant is well decorated and clean with plenty of seating. the veggie dumplings are so-so, but the vegetarian duck is incredible. thick sauce, crunchy bean curd, and stuffed with delicious mushroom andchinesecabbage. i dream of this dish. the ma po tofu is also fantastic. on the spicier side (which i prefer) the tofu is steamed and the crunchy vegetables contrast nicely. many other vegetarian choices, but i can never seem to get away from my two favorites to try them! can't speak for the meatier dishes, but if you are a vegetarian this place is one you need to visit.

tasty food. i've been to tokyo shanghai a few times, and would definitely recommend it if you are craving some goodchinesefood. (there are some better japanese places i would recommend - esp for sushi.) the best dish i've had thus far is the general tso's tofu - not only delicious but also have not seen it anywhere else. the atmosphere is nice, however prefer take out.
