toast's "americanized" croque monsieur before i demolished it. this is the basis for an excellent breakfast sandwich experience. today's version attoastwas ok. i like the sunnyside up (soft) egg on top (amedicanized). if i were to order again i would ask for more a little more substance and texture. more cheese, onions perhaps (the pickled red onions in the generous salad were delicious). and yes, service and flavours will bring me back totoastpdx.

i am so glad i finally triedtoastto see what they were all about!. i have driven by this little unassuming restaurant so many times. because there are always a bunch of bikes in the bike rack out front i guess i thought that it was an indie coffee shop. i finally googled it and decided to give it a try. man am i glad that i did! i had the "dismal times - ground hanger steak, white cheddar cheese, chives, greens, served open faced ontoastwith two fried eggs and a rosti." the hangar steak was seasoned just right, the eggs were fried to my exact specifications and the rosti was wonderful.

sad letdown. this restaurant came highly recommended so my mother and i decided to meet for brunch there. firstly, for me going out to eat is not just about the food its also about the ambiance and service.toastitself is a cute little spot. they have an open kitchen so you can so the cooks. but the service was lousy. it took forever for our server to arrive and when he did it was to take our order and give us our bill. someone else delivered our food. he took my order wrong. my mother ordered something from the menu and they gave it to her but the meal was different than was described in the menu. overall, a total letdown. would not be returning at all.

toast paninoteca ,  or as most call it,toast, is one of my favorite five points, durham eateries. and owners, billy & kelli cotter are are definitely on my favorite durham “cool cats” list. people in durham will tell you, “if you’re in a bad mood, talk to kelli cotter and you’ll feel better.” it’s true. translated, “paninoteca” is italian for “sandwich shop”. as far as i know this is a unique restaurant concept in the carolinas. owners billy & kelli cotter image: facebook.com/toastpaninoteca favorited by locals working downtown, lunch hours are typically busy, but take heart – the line moves quickly. that’s kelli below, yuckin’ it up with customer johanna kramer ( durham foodie ). pic and i met johanna for lunch to catch up on, what else, the durham food scene over a choice variety of dishes. i’d especially recommend getting the cup of homemade soup or salad with choice of three crostini ($8.75) . soups this day were 1) calabrian onion soup with croutons and provolone, and 2) caulifl

so thank youtoastfor a great first visit.

atmosphere is very much a diner joint, great for families and they even have outdoor seating.
service was great today. my husband likes to judge the service by how full his coffee cup is. it was always full.
pricing was a bit on the steep side. seriously this is my only complaint. they do get everything locally, so we are supporting that and it does cost more and you can taste the difference.
coffee was courier coffee and the tea was fox fire, which is a loose leaf tea. great tea choice by the way. they also had tons of morning cocktails to choose from.
toastis located off of se 52nd.

a durham gem. we decided to visittoastafter reading about it in the nytimes. what a great concept - just italian sandwiches, salad and soup. the staff was friendly and our food was delicious. i had the soppressata, fontina, arugula and mustard panini. the mustard had an excellent kick to it. my partner had the portobello, fontina, arugula, and tomato panini with a side salad which was equally good. the food was fresh and tasty. a great deal for the price. and we were pleasantly surprised to find they sold wine and local beer as well. the table next to us ordered the crostini combos with soup which looked terrific.toastis clearly a popular lunch spot, and as the line lengthened during our meal, we saw at least four parties give up and leave. either come early or prepare to wait. as an out of towner, i thoroughly enjoyed this durham gem.

i like the food. super fresh. but very pricey. coffee, 2 eggs, veggies, and a strip of pork belly. $16.50, really? and no toast? that's almost comical. notoastat toast. the service was great. definitely will be back when i get a raise.

toast is so darn good, the small space can get pretty crowded with a line to the door. plan your visits accordingly! and yes, if you're catching a show at dpac, a quick meal attoastmakes for a casual start to your evening. order at the counter and go find a seat quick! and don't forget about the sidewalk seating outside.

great!. my daughter and i stopped in totoaston a cold weekday evening. the mac and cheese and gnocchi called to us, and we're glad we heard them. delicious. the place is so small and open that we could tell the staff was watching to make sure we were happy (if you're reading this, the mac and cheese didn't need all the salt she was pouring out -- she just didn't know the shaker was working). we'll be back for breakfast soon.

they had me at pork belly. i'm a big fan of pork belly.toastsomehow knows this because every time i visit they have a new plate that features it (last time it was a pork belly hash). and the service is perfect, they are friendly and prompt and give you delicious little samples of whatever baked goods they have on hand while your waiting for your meal. good coffee (stumptown) and mixed drinks too. i also like that they don't take it all so seriously, there's kids drawings pasted everywhere and the employees seem to be having fun which to me makestoasta easy choice when wondering where to go for breakfast.

my favorite in town. i eat a lot of breakfast! i would consider myself a breakfast expert!toastis so good! the menu is short and to the point. portions are thoughtful, flavors are balanced, ingredients taste garden fresh. the space is small but not too jammed up. there is coffee while you wait and complimentary treats as soon as you arrive at your table. i go here every chance i get! try it! its well worth a short (in portland terms) wait!

love it! try the soup!. i wish i could eat attoastevery day. i've yet to go for dinner, but the lunch has never disappointed me. i have been particularly impressed with their soups -- not usually a soup kind of girl, but these are hearty, healthy, and tasty. i am pretty sure the top five soups i've had in my life have all come fromtoast(ok, maybe one spot for grandma's...)

love this place!.toastis a great value. nowhere else in durham can you get such wonderfully flavorful, fresh panini for $6.

i also recommend sampling their daily specials- especially if the braised shortrib panino makes a reappearance...wow...it was stellar (and wicked spicy)!

they are absolutely jammed during the 12pm-1pm lunch hour, so i suggest going there earlier or later- especially if you want a table.
