toast's "americanized" croque monsieur before i demolished it. this is the basis for an excellent breakfast sandwich experience. today's version at toast was ok. i like the sunnyside up (soft) egg on top (amedicanized). if i were to order again i would ask for more a little more substance and texture. more cheese, onions perhaps (the pickled red onions in the generous salad were delicious). and yes, service and flavours will bring me back to toast pdx.

i am so glad i finally tried toast to see what they were all about!. i have driven by this little unassuming restaurant so many times. because there are always a bunch of bikes in the bike rack out front i guess i thought that it was an indie coffee shop. i finally googled it and decided to give it a try. man am i glad that i did! i had the "dismal times - ground hanger steak, white cheddar cheese, chives, greens, served open faced on toast with two fried eggs and a rosti." the hangar steak was seasoned just right, the eggs were fried to my exact specifications and the rosti was wonderful.

bar seating, plus. self-serve coffee while waiting, plus. free bites of scone and cookie, very welcomed. prices compared to portion, possibly worst i've seen. refusal to hard boil an egg, borderline shocking.

super yummy and good atmosphere, a great little neighborhood spot. i got the go home thomas - very yummy english muffin, but could have used a little more seasoning. i think we will be back! unique breakfast dishes.

toast is another gem on west main street that i've probably walked by hundreds of times on my way to other restaurants in the area. for some reason, the cafe's exterior has never managed to catch my eye; at least not until i got a raving recommendation from a friend. with free late sunday mornings come opportunities for culinary adventures so i made my way down here for a light brunch with ms.x.

congratulations to winner of crafty award 2014. in late 2014, eno river media announced the winners of the north carolina craft services and catering award (crafty award) for the 2014 season.

toast paninoteca won in the category of italian.

the board of directors, advisors and senior staff of eno river media congratulates all the staff of toast paninoteca on meeting the high standard of merit by all the votes cast by our industry professionals.

the crafty award is given out every year per county by members of eno river media and other organizations involved in the movie and television industry of north carolina. the entries do not compete against each other, but rather they are judged based upon a "high standard of merit".

congratulations!!

let’s eat!!

sad letdown. this restaurant came highly recommended so my mother and i decided to meet for brunch there. firstly, for me going out to eat is not just about the food its also about the ambiance and service. toast itself is a cute little spot. they have an open kitchen so you can so the cooks. but the service was lousy. it took forever for our server to arrive and when he did it was to take our order and give us our bill. someone else delivered our food. he took my order wrong. my mother ordered something from the menu and they gave it to her but the meal was different than was described in the menu. overall, a total letdown. would not be returning at all.

odd is good. a unique menu of some very intriguing flavor combinations. i tried the crostini combo and loved everything. the goat cheese and honey was especially delicious. look forward to going back again.

prepare for a wait during the weekend because it’s a busy place which only means one thing…great food!  now, i’m not sure what i was thinking when i ordered 2 kinds of potatoes during my first visit there but i was hungry and after 20 minutes of waiting i felt i could eat it all.  yes i failed at that but i got to eat my first rosti there, a classic swiss potato dish, and anyone that knows me can tell you that i just love potatoes in all forms so i was super excited to have it prepared in a different way than the normal hash variety.  i ordered the   rain man and sun king ($10.50) which had sautéed vegetables (served al dente) with greens and roasted potato hash topped wi

toast paninoteca ,  or as most call it, toast , is one of my favorite five points, durham eateries. and owners, billy & kelli cotter are are definitely on my favorite durham “cool cats” list. people in durham will tell you, “if you’re in a bad mood, talk to kelli cotter and you’ll feel better.” it’s true. translated, “paninoteca” is italian for “sandwich shop”. as far as i know this is a unique restaurant concept in the carolinas. owners billy & kelli cotter image: facebook.com/toastpaninoteca favorited by locals working downtown, lunch hours are typically busy, but take heart – the line moves quickly. that’s kelli below, yuckin’ it up with customer johanna kramer ( durham foodie ). pic and i met johanna for lunch to catch up on, what else, the durham food scene over a choice variety of dishes. i’d especially recommend getting the cup of homemade soup or salad with choice of three crostini ($8.75) . soups this day were 1) calabrian onion soup with croutons and provolone, and 2) caulifl

so thank you toast for a great first visit.

atmosphere is very much a diner joint, great for families and they even have outdoor seating.
service was great today. my husband likes to judge the service by how full his coffee cup is. it was always full.
pricing was a bit on the steep side. seriously this is my only complaint. they do get everything locally, so we are supporting that and it does cost more and you can taste the difference.
coffee was courier coffee and the tea was fox fire, which is a loose leaf tea. great tea choice by the way. they also had tons of morning cocktails to choose from.
toast is located off of se 52nd.
