love it! try the soup!. i wish i could eat at toast every day. i've yet to go for dinner, but the lunch has never disappointed me. i have been particularly impressed with their soups -- not usually a soup kind of girl, but these are hearty, healthy, and tasty. i am pretty sure the top five soups i've had in my life have all come from toast (ok, maybe one spot for grandma's...)

absolutely awesome. got the tigers eye--pork belly on top of fried eggs, greens and summer broccoli. all sweetened with a balsamic reduction. wow.

love this place!. toast is a great value. nowhere else in durham can you get such wonderfully flavorful, fresh panini for $6.

i also recommend sampling their daily specials- especially if the braised shortrib panino makes a reappearance...wow...it was stellar (and wicked spicy)!

they are absolutely jammed during the 12pm-1pm lunch hour, so i suggest going there earlier or later- especially if you want a table.

as good as berkeley. toast is the best place in town for lunch. it is the only casual restaurant in durham that equals the cuisine of berkeley/san francisco - it makes me homesick. the ingredients are fresh, the menu is creative, the staff is really friendly, and the prices are super cheap. i love toast.

home-baked goodies and more. the brunch here is a singular treat, what with all the home-baked goodies! i particularly enjoyed "rain man" with the sauteed squash and over-easy eggs.

based on a traditional italian sandwich bar-paninoteca, toast takes the idea of simplicity by offering seasonal local ingredients delivered in four basic forms: panini-hot grilled sandwich, tramezzini-cold sandwich on crust-less bread, bruschetta-grilled

a rare find. i have used urbanspoon several times in the past to find a good place to eat not too far from where i had to go. but last night my wife and i were invited out by my mom to celebrate our upcoming 20th anniversary so i decided to try something really unique. i chose toast because when i looked at the menu i could not remember ever having anything on it. as we drove up i had second thoughts because i knew my mom wanted someplace with great atmosphere and the appearance seemed a little too simple and small. but we went inside and began a really wonderful adventure. since none of us had a clue what to order i decided to take the bull by the horns and order for us. i looked at the menu board and just started ordering more or less one of each. within 30 seconds i'd ordered a bunch of food and we sat down not having any idea what to expect. within minutes we were served some of the most beautifully presented great tasting food any of us had ever had. each dish was an adventure. my wife and my mother were in awe of my restaurant selection savvy. the bill was very reasonable. go early, go often.

hearty comfort food. eating at toast is like slipping into your favorite pajamas at the end of a work day. comforting and relaxing. the people who work there are incredibly friendly and hard working. the food is a little heavy but good - the badass sandwich is my favorite. it has lots of meat. the prices are great, too.
