not the same. ninfa's used to be my favoriteplacefor tex-mex in baton rouge. you still cannot beat their tortillas--they make them in-house and they are amazing. i order the beef quesos every time and they are great. the margaritas, especially the ninfatini, are good; however, for the most part, ninfa's is overpriced and kind of dirty. sometimes it smells weird in there. i definitely feel like their heyday was the late '90s/early 2000s and they are just kind of past their prime.

used to be known by another name
but mexican style is still their game

if you go home hungry you're to blame
while the margs here have a claim to fame

chips and salsa all the same?
not really true this salsa's been flamed

menu of eats is why you came
or maybe to spy that dude corey haim

greatplacefor you with food so untamed
might make an impression on your new dame.

some mexican joints in br are pricey and lame
this one is pricey but the food is insane.

eeeew.. i had always been loyal to superior, but lots of people in br are ninfamaniacs, and i attended an event there at the request of some friends who are loyal patrons. hands down, the soft tortillas were the best in baton rouge. everything else was disgusting. theplacesmelled like a dirty, sour mop bucket, and everything was just...well...dirty. the ambiance left much to be desired, and theplaceis wayyy overdue for a remodel. i won't be back.

moran family better get act together!. we ate there today and the food was not good, bland, did not taste like the past. floor under our table as well other tables had trash and pieces of food. someone is lacking on their job. theplacefelt dirty not clean. we have been loyal customers for 15 years always eating the same dish but we will not return. ever since the son became manager or 2 -3 years ago quality of the food has gone down. they constantly changing the menu, so you have to ask the waiters where is our old dish. use to be a top notch resturant but now is lacking in management.

overpriced and lacking quality. i rarely find myself writing a negative review of a restaurant. mainly because i think that when someone owns a restaurant know what they are doing. this doesn't seem the case. we went here for lunch. i'd thought there would be a lunch menu, but they didn't seem to have one. why would a restaurant on a service road next to an interstate not have a lunch menu? you're competing with at least a dozen places within a half mile; how will you lure new customers?

our server acted as if he didn't want to be there and gave us the chips and salsa. the chips were stale, oily and cold; this tells me that they were probably made the day before and they couldn't bother reheating them. the salsa didn't have any particular unique taste that most mexican restaurants have, because most make their own homemade salsa. being a person who could eat mexican everyday, i found myself only having one cup of it here.

i tend to eat fajitas when i go to a mexican restaurant, namely because you can't microwave it. however, i didn't order it here because the cost was upwards to 20 dollars, which i find very overpriced. instead i ordered the fajita burrito, which costed 14-16 dollars, which i also find overpriced. however, i am a person who will pay any particular price, as long as the food matches its price. the burrito here is a $7 one at best. the fajita meat was hard and blackened; i'm guessing the cooks over cooked the meat and decided that wrapping it up in a tortilla was a sufficient way to sell food.

overall, i believe thisplacehas potential, but it needs a lot of in-house work. first, revamp the food quality and cooks. you can't possibly believe people will pay $16 for a burrito that is made of over cooked meat; that's what taco bell is for. second, retrain all bartenders to properly pour drinks. we had some margaritas and they tasted off putting. there's a reason the drinks have particular measurements, you have to follow them. people aren't asking for triple shots of bottom shelf tequila in their drinks; it makes the drink worse. lastly, teach the servers to greet and have a positive attitude in front of guests. this seems like a fundamental concept, but clearly it needs to be stated. servers make their salary based on tips. if the servers don't care about greeting the customers, then they should not be working the front of the house. one day, i'll give thisplaceanother chance. i hope when i do, i can delete this review and write a positive one.

ninfa’s mexican restaurant reviews: ninfa’s mexican (baton rouge, la)  ninfa’s mexican restaurant has  been around since i can remember. the are located just off the i-10 college dr. exit. thisplaceroutinely has a long wait for a table nightly. you know it is the real deal when  you walk in and see the 2 mexican ladies diligently making tortillas from scratch in their little booth for all to watch! tortillas are the best i have had by far. they will not win any health contests but the flavor is unbeatable.   ninfa’s chips & dip they start off every guest with a basket of tortillas chips (fried in house ) served with a cup of salsa and their green avocato sauce. this sauce is unique to ninfa’s. very smooth, medium thick sauce is great. eric & i usually go through 2 cups during a meal.     ninfa’s queso dip for an addition we had a small order of their queso dip. we like this dip over many other similar restaurants because they have vegetables in their’s like onion and tomato. adds a v

awesome food. i use to work in baton rouge and truly enjoyed this place. i would go and come out stuffed and almost to the point of sickness, but it was worth it. you cant go wrong with your choice of dishes or appetizers. i would personally recommend making this a stoppingplaceon trips if you enjoy mexician food like i do.

possibly the 'best'. this was my second trip to ninfa's (first was back in 2007) in baton rouge, a restaurant with deep ties to classic houston mexican cuisine. being from houston, i knew what to expect, but did not expect how well the ninfa's on the outer rim operated.

getting past the food (superb) and atmosphere (dark, clean, inviting), i could have enough good things to say about the staff. i could tell the manager/owner(s) were very pleasant down-to-earth people, because you could see it had rubbed off on the staff. this establishment may have the very best service in town. our waiter took time out to talk with us about drink choices and everyday life in general for nearly 15 minutes in all.

the treats are the queso (wrapped and plattered at your table - onlyplacein baton rouge that does this), and the sopapillas.

10 out of 10.

great mexican restaurant. ninfa's used to be my favourite mexican restaurant in baton rouge until i discovered the delights of coyote blues which it shares much in common with; ninfa's has gigantic portion sizes and an above average price for mexican food.
my girlfriend and i had heard good things about theplaceand so decided to check it out one day. first impressions for most of ninfa's customers will be the same; 'where the hell do i park?', as they must have the smallest car park for a restaurant and it is always full, however they make the most out of having a massive holiday inn lot behind them that you can take advantage of. after spending 10 minutes figuring this out you're finally ready to go eat.
initially i was disappointed to find out they didn't have my mexcian staple, the chimmichanga. however upon receiving our dishes this sadness quickly subsided. i had a beef burrito and my girlfriend had the pork carnitas upon recommendation by our very knowledgeable waiter. my food was good, but hers was out of this world. basically she received a massive chunk of slow cooked pork and all the accessories to build her carnitas. if you're one of those people that doesn't mind building your own meal at a restaurant (i'm not) then this is for you, the meat was succulent and melts in the mouth and the freshness of all the other ingredients was top draw.
despite the best interests of our stomachs we opted for desert afterwards which also was superb. we shared an order of their fried ice cream which, unlike many baton rouge mexican restaurants was actually fried, not just ice cream rolled around in crunchy bits and so it went down smooth.
i only have a few complaints about the place. first of all the parking, which i mentioned above, however this is just a minor annoyance at best. the layout of the restaurant is slightly strange, with nooks and crannys all over theplaceand i feel like we were forgotten about at some times. also my biggest complaint is their reservation system. unlike every other restaurant in the world they do not take reservations on the phone. to reserve a table you must go there earlier in the day and they will take your name down in person. now i understand that thisplaceis always busy and they probably want to make sure people actually show up for their tables, but thats slightly excessive if you have to make the journey just to reserve a table.
all in all it was a great meal, and i can't blame ninfa's for a table of about 10 annoying middle aged women yelling the whole time we were eating.

okay, but not my favorite.. first time i went to ninfa's shortly after it opened i thought it was okay and would eventually go back. that didn't happen till many years later and after that visit i'm not inspired to return. service was okay, atmosphere was too loud... 80's alt rock was cranked up to the point that everyone in theplacewas competing with the music to converse. tears for fears is not my idea of appropriate music for a texmex joint. i decided to try the carnitas, roasted pork platter. what i got appeared to be a grilled pork chop that was cubed and put on the plate with bean/rice/etc. dry, tough and boring. guacamole is decent, but not enough to give them another chance. oh well, there are plenty of other options so i don't feel like i'll be missing anything. good luck if you do decide to try them, the chick fajitas i had the first time were very good... but i can't vouch for them over a decade later.

#1. your clothes will stink after being there. #2. bland, sterile environment. looks like a garage or bldg that was newly sheet-rocked w/ no attention to decor. totally blah. #3 food was less exciting than taco bell. it was shocking how many females ( from lsu?) were ok about eating here. i am saying this b/c thisplaceis a total bore.
