the winey cow

it devastates me to do this, but i had a pretty ordinary experience.

arrived and the lovely girl promptly told us to sit at a table and said she would bring menus and water to us. we chose to sit outside on a beautiful autumn day. we soon discovered that the lovely girl wasn't the server in our area and happily showed new customers to the tables inside and got them water and menus promptly. the server in the outside area, avoided eye contact with me when i tried to wave her down to get some menus. about 10 minutes had passed with no menus or water. the server noticed some of her friends sitting next to us. she came over to them and decided to have a chat. fed up, i picked up some menus from a nearby 'reserved' table.

eavesdropping on her conversation, which was 2 feet away, she told her friends about some of the 'shit' customers she had this morning. what seemed like eternity, especially after spending 15 minutes (not exaggerating), she said to her friends that she should probably getbackto 'work'. she had herbackto every customer in the area, not just us. she turned to us and asked for our order, no apologies for keeping us waiting. we also asked for some water, which we never got until another server had delivered our drinks. she happily served other customers with their food and drinks but she did not deliver one thing to us or asked how we were going.

i'm not a grumpy person, i give everyone a
go and understand that sometimes people may have bad days, but she seemed happy to see her friends, however had a very poor attitude with her customers, which reflected in the conversation she had with her friends.

i sound like a winey cow after this scathing review. i hope this girls attitude has changed as would love to go there again with a more positive experience.

ordered the brunch stack, presentation of the dish was fantastic and the flavours did not disappoint. there was a lot of elements on the plate but they all worked really well together and i thoroughly enjoyed every bite. lots of different textures, crunch from the bacon, crispness from the rosti smooth creamy textures from the avocado puree and hollandaise sauce. will definitely gobackthere again!

a perfectly-worded pun for the name of this cafe restaurant along the mornington peninsula. staff are friendly, the air smells like sea breeze, atmosphere is bustling and food is delicious. for breakfast/brunch, their range of avocado dishes is impressive, particularly the spanner crab and smoked salmon option. for lunch, their main meals are generous in portion size and flavour. the open, superfood sandwich was filling yet made you feel "super" after eating it; pair it with haloumi cheese, and you have yourself a winner! for dinner, their meals are just as impressive; but come the winter months, you'll see mebackagain to try their highly recommended gnocchi dish!

we love the winey cow. my husband and i escaped the city for the weekend, we decided to go to the peninsula.
we left our accommodation and headed for main st mornington, we hadn't made a dinner booking anywhere we just wanted to end up somewhere unexpected, it looked like the winey cow was where we ended up from the moment we were greeted at the door by a charming young man i knew we were in for a good night he sat us down and explained their menu. we ordered our bottle of wine and shared a meat & cheese board from here on we satbackand enjoyed the night my husband's sirloin steak and my gnocchi were so tasty we couldn't fault it oh and that quealy shiraz is to die for!!! all our needs were taken care of we didn't have to ask for a thing. before we left on sunday we decided to gobackfor breakfast just to try their day menu because we had such a good night friday night the young man was their again, he remembered us and made us feel soo welcome all we want as being the customer is to be remembered and to have a great time while we are out 'the winey cow' did this for us.
can not wait too come back!!

came for brunch with a friend. yummy food. staff were happy & friendly. nice outdoor seating. dog-friendly. would definitely comebackagain.

would have to comebackand try more, but the pulled pork burger with coleslaw was terrific and came with a very generous portion of fries. another amazing dish was the eggs benny with coleslaw, pulled pork and apple. a great location too, not far from the seaside with a lovely beach feel.

great food but could use an expansion on the vegan options! would also love to see sweet potato fries here, was shocked when they weren’t on the menu. will definitely bebackagain soon!!

superb! great coffee and juice was fresh, produce was fresh and tasty, servings were generous and definitely worth the money! comingbackfor certain! staff were lovely and prompt service

i found the service to be amazing- i got my order in about 10mins during a peak period. the staff were friendly. the ambience was relaxed. a little squashed for my taste. the food looked great, but didn’t have a lot of flavour. would comebackagain maybe to try something new.

enjoyed a late lunch here - sat outside as the weather was beautiful. it's not very big inside so just as well it was nice weather. i had the superfood sandwich- full of flavour and the polenta chips were really yum. the iced tea special was also really good. i'd comebackhere again.

pretty terrible experience here. from the crappy service to the black avocado i was served on my toast and had to sendbackto the kitchen. food was pretty tasteless across the table. the rosti was bland even though it sounded delicious. hollandaise also tasteless and the muffins it was served on were either stale or under toasted.
they also made a fuss when we went to pay and tried to charge us for the off food.
definitely won't be returning and don't recommend at all.

have been following this cafe on instagram for quite sometime to remind me to try out when we are next down at the beach house. today was the day!
we arrived around 9am on a saturday and there were still a few spots outside. service was quick and friendly.
i ordered the sweet potato chickpea cake with poached eggs, grilled haloumi and beetroot mayo. the flavours all worked well together, definitely need the beetroot mayo, otherwise the cake would have been a bit bland - however it tied it all in together nicely. this dish is also gluten free.
also ordered was scrambled eggs with a side of bacon and goats feta. this was devoured very quickly which is always a good sign.
we'll comebackfor lunch to try a meat and cheese platter next time.

although the place was packed out on a sunday, got a table straight away with great service. menu had good variation and specials sounded delicious. great atmosphere, staff, music, and food was decent too. "chick pea cake" was the only downside, but that could be personal opinion. would comebackand recommend!

went to winey cow for lunch with my husband and son for a quick bite today. son had the waffles which were beautiful ! disappointed when the waitress accidentally spilt a glass of wine all over me which she was extremely apologetic about and i thought we were extremely nice and understanding in return but thought we could of at least had our coffees on the house but no paid full price for the lot. local who won't be goingbackin hurry customer service is everything in business!
