this place always struck me as a bit dodgy looking but in reality no dodgier looking than any old pub. inside it was pretty stock standard old pub, quite weathered but certainly friendly and warm. the service seemed fine and it was a freezing night yet the beer garden had good heating, we were extremely comfortable eating outside - but the negative is i really feel the food is over priced. my dish sounded hearty, i was excited, but when it came out they had gone with the "modern australian" tiny portions thing you might find at an up market restaurant. look the food did not taste bad, but i had to come home and snack, i was in no way full. i just felt it was reaching to be a dining experience it just isn't. i say just be a comfy daggy pub and offer good pub grub for hungry drinkers at decent prices. trying to be fancy when the workmanship is not quite there and the surrounds are old and shabby just didn't work for me and i'll doubt i'll be back to dine. i'll probably be back for a couple of wines though. also gf options were abysmal - pretty bad for brunswick the gf mecca of melbourne. another big negative, desserts had sold out. i thought that was really weird.
