you cannot judge thispubjust based on its apprearance from the outside because once you step in you feel like you're in a suave restaurant! kitchen is run by head chef james wallis and sous chef alvin valfuna ( i only know this as it was on the menu :p)

staff were very lovely and courteous. we got to sample a few entree's including the ox tartar, wild boar terrine, yellow fin tuna, beetroot carpaccio and the hiramasa kingfis. my favourites were the kingfish and the ox tartar.

for main i had the 250g rangers valley wagyu skirt steak with served with hand cut chips, zucchini, lemon and olive oil - cooked med well the steak was perfection! loved the hand cut chips - little crispy on the outside.

dessert was also a delight with my favourites being the pumpkin panna cotta and and the coriander ice cream (weird but tasty).

overall, it was a great first visit and i will indeed be back!

must say i was pretty surprised. for a pub, it's very fancy. they've apparently renovated just recently so it's a fabulous little spot. the front looks like your typicalpubbut the restaurant and back sections are gorgeous. food is pretty fancy too. definitely not your every daypubgrub. flavours are good, presentation is good. it's the perfect place for a long boozy friday lunch.

this place is great! we've been here a few times and have always found the staff friendly and helpful. we ate for the first time in the restaurant and found the food stunning! it was beyond all expectations. we usually just go for the bar food but decided to hit up the restaurant. so glad we did.
one of our friends has an allergy and can find it hard when dining out, but the staff were truly amazing - nothing seemed too hard or difficult. which was a breathe of fresh air.
thispubhas something for everyone. we love it and have never had a drama, we will be back (as often as possible!)

when we ventured over to this idyllic spot down near the iconic woolloomooloo wharf, we were expecting your typical hotel pub. we were mistaken. this place has a different ambiance. there is of course, your typicalpubat the front, where you can get your traditionalpubgrub fare. however, it's a little more sophisticated than your local pub.

the better one out of a few pubs in woolloomooloo. i came here for a birthday party which was reserved in the rooftop terrace. as i was walking through the downstairs dining and bar areas, it stroke me as bright, clean, and sleek. i thought to myself this didn't look too bad! the rooftop was a winner too although small. we ordered a couple bottles of nz sauvignon blanc which wasn't too expensive and nice.  later on we thought of having cocktails but were deterred by how expensive it was, not even a proper cocktail bar like eau de vie or roosevelt would charge $25 for a cocktail in sydney and i trusted those guys to rustle up a cocktail much more than apubin woolloomooloo! it was an ok night out but came across somewhat overpriced.

had valentines dinner with my partner last night and it was the first time trying out this restaurant. the food was amazing!!
i didn't hold a high hope from the restaurant as it looks like an ordinary localpub, however, the food proves me wrong. the valentines dinner set menu blew me away, it was surely fine dinning quality.
the first course was stuffed tomato, it looks like a picture of sunset, all the flavour was well balanced with the crunchy crumble olive and feta, it was a good start to the menu. then it comes an even prettier dish which is the compressed watermelon with sashimi, it was refreshing with the watermelon and pea purée. if i have to pick on anything. i would have to say the duck leg ravioli was a touch too salty and the mignon was not top quality meat. the chocolate fondant was all you need to a perfect finish. considering the price it was surely great value for what you get, only if the service was more friendly it will be a gem hidden in this classy neighbourhood.

the tilbury hotel is located along nicholson street in woolloomooloo. it’s a great place to grab drinks with a nice modernpubfeel (they renovated a few years back) and now with new headchef elton inglis (formerly with jamie oliver and ramsey), they deign to establish the tilbury as a new dining destination with premium dining and ingredients :  its doing a great new menu and doing a fancy moet ice champagne bar on fridays (5-7pm). $10 moets. we drop in and attend a cooking masterclass with the chef courtesy of stella concepts. chef elton inglis lifted london’s assiette anglaise’s review score to the 12th top spot on tripadvisor’s restaurant review rankings. here’s a link to the review of assiette in the independent (uk) scallops being dished out. gotta say, these behind the scenes look into a restaurants kitchen are always great. and here’s what you need to make a killer scallop dish. there’s not a lot of ingreidients there really. all the goodies cooking away. noob presentation of o

awesome night. i have been to the tilbury quite a few times now for dinner and it just keeps getting better! last night i had dinner there with a friend. we were keen to try the new menu and it was amazing!! although we were tempted try the 'lamb three ways' we had a selection of the starters to share: seared scallops with pancetta (gorgeous), tuna tartare in a soy marinade with avocado cream (superb) and the lancashire hot pot with red cabbage ... perfect for the chilly evening. the real standout though was the chicken "salad" - the chicken was flavoursome, tender, moist, beautiful!
everything came out on these gorgeous slate platters which looked incredible and it was all so beautifully presented we took photos of everything!! (i am not someone who usually takes photos of my food...)
anyway onto dessert. we shared the pannacotta, which was pretty good, and the black forest cake which actually melted my face. i mean it was so good i wanted to kiss the chef. he seemed a bit perplexed by this so i didn't...
it's a bit pricier than it used to be but worth every penny - this experience puts the tilbury firmly in the fine dining category and the service was attentive and friendly. the waiter made a good wine recommendation and was very helpful at explaining how to eat each dish (have a little bit of everything on your fork at once, apparently).
i've always kind of seen the tilbury as serviceablepubfood - a little on the "dude" side (spaghetti, roasts, steak etc) but this was several notches above what we've come to expect. the flavours were delicate and as i said the presentation was beautiful. loved it!! will definitely be back.
