“we smash kingsleys! ” chef elton inglis – who has worked with gordon ramsey and jamie oliver – isn’t backwards about coming forwards regarding the quality of his cooking or his chosen produce. in this case, it’s new zealand’s riverlands beef fillet served en croute in beef wellington ($35) . it has a neighbouring table of british nationals smiling and keen to share their recommendation. we cement the friendship by sharing our truffle oil and parmesan mash ($7) – possibly order overkill – because elton’s crisp berkshire pork belly ($29) already came adorned with black pudding, savoy cabbage, carrot fondant, onion puree and compressed apple. his modern interpretations of british comfort food are perfect for a drizzly sunday afternoon. alongside his silky pappardelle with braised oxtail ragout ($29) , my menu highlight was...

you cannot judge this pub just based on its apprearance from the outside because once you step in you feel like you're in a suave restaurant! kitchen is run by head chef james wallis and sous chef alvin valfuna ( i only know this as it was on the menu :p)

staff were very lovely and courteous. we got to sample a few entree's including the ox tartar, wild boar terrine, yellow fin tuna, beetroot carpaccio and the hiramasa kingfis. my favourites were the kingfish and the ox tartar.

for main i had the 250g rangers valley wagyu skirt steak with served with hand cut chips, zucchini, lemon and olive oil - cooked med well the steak was perfection! loved the hand cut chips - little crispy on the outside.

dessert was also a delight with my favourites being the pumpkin panna cotta and and the coriander ice cream (weird but tasty).

overall, it was a great first visit and i will indeed be back!

settling into blogger life after journalism, i decided to investigate a zomato meetup at the tilbury. zomato hosts these events for some of the 300-odd restaurants who advertise on their australian platform, allowing them the opportunity to be seen by social media influencers who post about them. by having more activity on their restaurant listing, these advertisers climb the zomato rankings and are thus seen by hungry sydney diners more often. my zomato staffer dining companions tell me this not-quite-organic way of improving visibility on zomato can never beat actually being the next big thing.as someone used to dining as a twosome, group meals are a whole different ballpark. rather than seeing individual entrees, our amicable waitress tells us we’re being served the whole range of them on a platter. when it lands, the awkward sport of sharing them fairly begins, but only after copious insta-worthy photo documentation, with one clever lass peeling back the sourdough toast to reveal a visually impressive wild boar terrine ($18)

🍴 chefs choice: 300g jack's creek black angus beef sirloin, marble score 3, triple cooked handcut chips & garden salad 🍴

what a beautifully renovated iconic hotel in woolloomooloo. and if the interior and outdoor dining don't wow you, your food certainly will. this steak melted in my mouth and with each bite i took and i could taste the attention and care they'd taken in seasoning it. the jus gave a great depth of flavour, i took great delight in dipping my fat crispy potato chips into the little pot. easy to understand how this steak has been award winning the previous two years, so appreciative of the venue for having me ✌️👌🏻

sandwiches and rolls are so not worth $9. got a bagel today and there was one thin slice of smoked salmon and a pitiful spread of cream cheese. ouch. at least the service is lovely

had dinner with friends at the tilbury restaurant. the food was good, but the service was dreadful. management should try choosing staff on their ability instead of their looks.

had a great experience at the tilbury hotel and would definitely recommend it to all. the venue has recently gone through a makeover, complete with a sleek and contemporary interior. the outdoor seating makes the tilbury a great spot for a lunch in the sun!

i tried a sample of starters, with the hiramasa kingfish carpaccio standing out from the rest. for the main i had the pork belly slow cooked in hay, smoked pear, sauerkraut, mashed potato, nasturtium - a great combination of flavours with the pork belly cooked very well. finished the meal off with a variety of cheese and desserts. was not a fan of the goat's cheese, but the pumpkin panna cotta and chocolate & cardamom pudding with rose water cream were delightful.

the staff were very attentive and a pleasure to deal with. overall would definitely recommend and will be back!

security staff is delusional refusing entrance to a person that doesn’t take drugs or drink for being to entoxicated. the female bouncer is simply a joke and shouldn’t be allowed to hold a security license. rassist behavior without any reason: will never go there again. shame on you for hiring such poor staff.

scotch fillet steak okay - chunky fries just ok, bit light on and lacked flavour , very much doubt thrice cooked as stated.on menu . prawn linguini ok, strong on lemon, would have preferred more garlic in the sauce. eton's mess dessert average. service fine.

the setting is great and the service is not bad, but the food was really disappointing. all 4 of us didn’t live any of our courses. the flavors were very strong and not in a good way. also for what we got, it was quite overpriced. as was the wine list. the restaurant is trying to be upmarket and silver service, but is missing the mark with its menu and the execution. maybe why it was quite empty on a friday night... ps. my wife says that based on the food, my rating of 2 is too high...

came here before adding a party. the service was flawless, lovely table setting, charming and attentive staff. delicious wine.shame couldn’t be said about the meals. two at the table had the pork dish ... this was dry and very tough that one had to ask for a steak knife. the prawn omelette was presented differently with only small bits of prawns, but tasty. i had the tuna , i must say my dish was delicious.. all servings could have been larger but give it 10/10 for presentation. this restaurant didn’t quiet make it on the whole sadly.

came here to buy take away coffee. the place was busy with people buying drinks. it’s australia day after all. service was pretty quick and the coffee was not bad (from will & co). might come for the meals next time.
