bestbiscuitsin the city. this is an excellent place for breakfast. i love their country ham and red eye gravy, as well as the fried pork chops. add one of those with eggs and their delicious, flakybiscuitswith real southern gravy and you have quite a breakfast. there can be a bit of a wait on the weekends, and there's very little room inside to wait for your table, but they do have counter service, and it usually moves pretty quickly. lori is one of the nicest waitresses there.

silver skillet satisfies. we’ve been going to this diner for breakfast for years. it has a great retro feel. the servers all seem to have been there for years and they are friendly and quick.

we hardly ever stray from the skillet country ham which is rich and has a great salty tang. the grits andbiscuitsare also very good.

one of these days we’ll have to try something else on the menu or even return for lunch. in the meantime, this is the perfect place for an old-time southern breakfast.

old school. silver skillet is an old school atlanta institution. its the type if spot you could visit again 20 years from now and everything would be the exact same. there are a million trendy spots around town to grab breakfast but if you want a cozy, comfort food style meal go to silver skillet. and thebiscuitsare damn good.

travel back in time. eating here is like going back 60 years in time. we went on a weekday around 10 and walked right in and sat down. quick service and great food. i had the ham steak and eggs, its super salty but our waitress warned me, i loved it. also thebiscuitswere homemade and amazing. i had to try their famous pie, supposedly it was ranked in the top 5 in the country, which i would support. if your in the atl stop by this place, you wont be disappointed.

known for its country ham (and yes that means a salt cured ham) and red eye gravy for breakfast. not usually what i eat but they do a spectacular job and i will be ordering it again. theirbiscuitsare better than most restaurants and i'd rank it as the 2nd best i've ever had in a restaurant...and that's saying they are good! don't get discouraged if there is a wait since the line tends to move fast. it is a very small diner and has been featured in print and film.

the silver skillet was one of the first entries i posted on this blog and, being new to the area, had only been there a few times. i decided that the skillet deserves a more reflective review. the skillet is a good 60 years old at this point. it's a georgia tech institution. i see colleagues there regularly (sometimes that's good, sometimes not so good). but clearly it has a wide following---the 14th street bridge construction put a dent in their business, so a lot of people must cross the great i-85 chasm that separates geeks and suits in order to have their breakfast. the skillet wears its age well. it doesn't play up its quaintness or its fame. it's just one of those places that never changes. the piece de resistance of the skillet is thebiscuitsand gravy. the gravy is silky smooth. luscious is the best term i can think of to describe it. thebiscuitshit the perfect balance between flakiness and moistness. i think that lunch at the skillet isn't quite up to the same level as brea

the service was very prompt and very friendly. the food, however, was just okay. thebiscuitswere hard & the gravy was nothing memorable. the pancakes were undercooked & doughy. very charming diner with great service but just okay food.

this place rocks it hard for breakfast!. i would go here again in a minute - just make sure you hit it when you wont have to wade thru the yuppie dbags tooling around the atl in their land rovers and ed hardy shirts. other than the parking and wait sometimes due to the tidal wave of humanity that drops on this joint when folks get a hankerin' for some southern breakfast fare. the grits were good, thebiscuitsawesome and the country ham is as salty as the bottom of pretzel bag as it is supposta be.
seacrest,
out.

some things never change (yea!). i've eaten here for years when i'm in atlanta and want a time travel breakfast or dinner--a real 50's/60's diner. the fried chicken is like ronnie lunney's "honest fried chicken"--like the kind your mammie or auntie fried, back before we got health conscious. the veggies and salad are basic stuff--nothing fancy. i love the turkey and dressing too. but you have to give them full points for their breakfasts--the pork chops (grilled) are great (although they are those thin ones, they used to do thick ones) and the ham is like what your relatives in the country used to slaughter and smoke. thebiscuitsare heaven--the "white gravy" is the southern staple--flour roux and milk. i love the staff--they are friendly and very helpful, especially if you are from out of town. they are famous for their unchanged decor--looke for all the notes around the place where they have been in the movies. this is a real atlanta piece of history--take advantage if you come hotlanta.

in town for a few days and discovered this gem on urbanspoon. it's about a 15-20 minute walk from the midtown marta station (n4) and it is well worth it. need to orderbiscuitswhen you go - expect to wait a while for a table or snag a seat at the bar if you are alone. great breakfast and atmosphere.

biscuit heaven. this 1956 diner on 14th street is a little hard to get to due to the 14th st bridge closing. please don't let this top you from an experience that you'll absolutely love.
the food is fantastic. i'm a breakfast lover and this place puts out some good southern stick to your ribs food. i had their skillet country ham with 2 eggs over medium cheese gritsbiscuitsand coffee. let's start with the country ham. this is a one of a kind find. it is not the shoe leather that one might expect but rather a tender piece of what seems to be a marinated slice of heaven. all i had to use was a fork to cut it! the biscuits--oh my--this place knows haow to make a biscuit-add a little butter and honey and look out-you'll want tp slap someone! eggs were cooked as ordered-a novel idea! please try this place--it's a real find!! well i guess others have already found it since it's pretty busy on the weekends but do stop in!!!
