the salty dog cafe

thisplacewas better than expected. we usually despise chain restaurants but the food was good...the atmosphere even better. i love a restaurant on the water. our kids loved this place.

every year, at least once. we are annual visitors & always get to sd cafe for music, drinks, dining & of course, ice cream & t-shirts. food and service are great and quick! a very beach atmosphere. my kids favoriteplaceto eat in hh.

the food was very good. loved the she crab soup and shrimp salad. greatplaceto eat on the water. everyone in our party enjoyed their food.

overhyped. overpriced.. this chain needs to return to the roots. there had to be a reason thisplacegot popular. hopefully it was food quality, value and customer service and not a legend of the dog. what we experienced was: food we could obtain from going to a local restaurant supply shop like gfs (gordon food service). service was adequate but not engaging. we should have chosen the patio for a better grade of food and serving ourselves. also find it hard to believe that a seafood restaurant that highlights the uniqueness of their hush puppies didn't include them in the cost of the meal. this was our first trip after years of debating going to the salty dog. the score: one and done!

average. i decided to try thisplacedue to many advertisements around the area. when it got to the area, it seemed like theplaceto be. there were a ton of cars with very limited parking. the area around was a gorgeous drive. there was an outside bar that served drinks and appetizers. went inside and requested a table for two. was told there would be a two hour wait for dining. this was fine since i had nothing else planned and there are several shops around the area to visit. after visiting the shops, went back to the outside bar and ordered drinks. for two beers, it was 7.00 dollars, which is the price of a pitcher where i am from. took about and hour in a half and got a table for dinner. our waitress was fantastic. started out with calamari, which was good. i ordered a pasta with shrimp, crab, and lobster. i found this to be below par with the 25.00 price tag attached. i was not impressed with this meal at all. my girlfriend order the crab cake meal which was also 25.00. she was impressed and thought it was delicious. both meals were generous portions, and neither of us were able to finish.

the wifi for the restaurant had a strong signal, but when trying to connected with an iphone, i was unable to get service.

it was just "ok". heard from previous goers to definitely try the grouper dog ... so, me, my wife and daughter tried it out. it was ok, but nothing to drive out of the way for. and to find out the sandwich plus fries to be $15.50 at lunch! it was a huge sandwich, but cmon! coolplaceto visit though, as this is the "place" to go on hh. would i go again? yes i would, if i'm on the south end. would try something different next time.

very good! the staff was friendly,the food was good and the atmosphere was very nice. i would recommend thisplaceto everyone!

food was ok, nothing spectacular. service and the view were great. funplaceto ride bikes to for lunch and a frozen drink. overpriced for quality though.

stop kidding yourself. this is a "family bar." aplacewhere mom and dad can have a few drinks and the kids can play. food is cafeteria at best. drinks are waaaaaay overpriced. and if the tide is out, it's a mudhole. i live on hhi, and thisplaceis a joke. need to give these guys money? save a fortune at the restaurant, stop at sunoco and buy 2 24oz bud lights for $4, fire up sweet caroline on the ipod, drive through mickey dee's, and drive over to the salty dog "outlet" store on arrow rd

it is a very relaxingplacewith a view of the harbor. the food was good and plentiful. the hushpuppies were excellent! service was helpful.

it's theplaceto be after the sun goes down, until the clubs beckon. well you have probably seen the t-shirts with the logo of the legendary retriever wearing the yellow sou'wester hat. you may even have one folded up in your chest-of-drawers. from his very first appearance on a few t-shirts that promoted his home, jake has grown into a national fashion phenom. the salty dog café is located in the south beach marina @ sea pines along with jake's pizza, the wreck of the salty dog restaurant, land's end tavern and the lost parrot - java and smoothie bar. the south beach marina has become a gathering spot for both locals and island visitors, where you can enjoy waterfront dining inside or a drink and lighter fare on the deck or the outdoor bar. the night echoes with the tropical sounds of live entertainment most every night of the high-season. we park our bikes and wait to be seated but ultimately give up and dine on ice cream, piña coladas and fat tire beer. we normally order their low country crab dip and she crab soup, one of the islands best. it's a must to visit & enjoy a cold beer and the atmosphere… a trip to hh just isn't complete without a visit to the restaurants & shops of south beach.

food: fine dining it ain't, but the appetizers are good and i usually stick to the fish sandwiches or their seafood pot pie

service: the young servers are so stressed at days end… it looks like finals-week back at usc

food is not great but thisplaceis the quintessential hilton head stop every time we are in town

every time i've visited hilton head island i always visit thisplaceit's awesome

i can you hear the chants of "over-rated!". look, thisplacehas become an iconic hhi destination quite simply due to their marketing efforts and very little else. t-shirts, hats, dog collars, baby gear - you name it, they'll sell it to you. but hey, good for them.

@ the salty dog, i don't go there to eat the food to put it kindly, as there's not a lot they do different, or as good as, other places on the island. we simply go there on rare occasion to enjoy a drink or two on the outside deck. there's always a good scene with good music, good people, mostly family friendly up until late night. now, if you want to grab something fried while you're drinking - do it. but i wouldn't suggest heading there if you're looking for a great all-around meal. thisplacejust isn't built for that, any more.

have a few beers, buy a t-shirt, and get out of there!
