saltydogcafe. the food, service, and decor was average, plus its all for the tourists. it's not so good but if your a first timer go. why not?

hilton head island appeals to people for different reasons, but most who decide to visit here do so because the love the water and natural scenery. i, too, like waterfronts and beaches and on a recent hilton head trip, i tried to incorporate water into all of my activities. that is what led us to saltydogcafé, on the island’s west side.

saltydogcafé is a restaurant with a view and it has a large abundance of outdoor seating with water views. when i visited, we considered sitting inside at first because it was starting to rain, but the wait for a table was too long and besides, the rainfall was really just a light drizzle. the good thing about deciding to dine outdoors is that it’s self- serve seating, and that meant no wait at all. we just walked over to a table underneath one of the tents, protected from the rain, and claimed our spot. the outdoor section often features live entertainment, too, which is an added bonus for dining in the fresh air.

saltydogcafé serves a good deal of seafood options, plus american style foods. we decided to start with an order of hushpuppies. they were sweet and yummy and the honey butter made them that much better. i was torn over what to order for my lunch, but then the waiter came back to our table and suggested the special of the day, which was a chicken sandwich with bacon and ham, plus a side of fries. i decided that was good enough for me and i ended up liking my food, even though i admit that the breaded/deep- fried chicken used for the sandwich would have been better had it been a grilled chicken patty instead.

drinks are popular at saltydogcafé and they have plenty of tropical drinks and a good selection of beer. i ordered a pair of craft beers while i enjoyed my lunch and, judging by the looks of satisfaction on my family member’s faces, everyone seemed to like the experience. i should point out that you have to pay about 6 bucks just to enter the sea pines area, where this restaurant is located, so keep that in mind if you decide to visit. and enjoy the waterfront views and food here at saltydogcafé on hilton head island.

we had a couple of out of town friends coming to visit us. they had never been to hilton head before and were very excited to escape the trials of life for some rest and relaxation. they did not do a whole lot of research prior to coming down here, but they knew a few things about the island from world-of-mouth sources: hilton head has a lot of golf courses, hilton head had fun beaches, and the hilton head has the saltydogcafe.

you have a baby....in a bar!!!. saltydogis a great spot. i have been coming here for over a decade...parents please keep your children off of the barstools. there are signs everywhere saying barstools for patrons 21 and over. the adults would like to have a seat and an adult beverage while on vacation , maybe a special station for " virgin piña coladas " would be in order so that the bartenders have time to pour me a drink instead of babysitting your children while you text. have some courtesy , maybe you think it's cute to plop your kids down at the bar but it's not and it's against the law.

overpriced mass produced food. nothing special except the hush puppies, which were great. saltydogamber beer was pretty good.

great crab cake sandwich (and i usually don't like crab cakes) plus a saltydoglager buzz too!

take your hard earned money and go elsewhere. the only thing the owner seems to be a pro at is selling his tee shirts, so you will advertise for him! the food is the worst that hhhi has to offer. shame on you saltydog:(

it was just "ok". heard from previous goers to definitely try the grouperdog... so, me, my wife and daughter tried it out. it was ok, but nothing to drive out of the way for. and to find out the sandwich plus fries to be $15.50 at lunch! it was a huge sandwich, but cmon! cool place to visit though, as this is the "place" to go on hh. would i go again? yes i would, if i'm on the south end. would try something different next time.

love!. we love you salty dog! don't let anyone say otherwise! you are the best..... yes you are a family place. but that is what life is all about...a happy family! thank you saltydogfor a memorable trip. =)

over priced. i am a local and heard all these great things about the saltydog. so i went with some friends and had a horrible experience. for one our waiter was rude . we would ask him something about the menu and he would sigh at us like we were bothering him . two we waited for 40 mins for our food and we were the only people in there! three the food was wayy overpriced. payed 50 bucks for two salads and two drinks ! will never come back

always a good time at the salty dog. had lunch there this time. i had a nice fresh caught seafood wrap, my wife had the grouper, kids had the typical fare. we sat on the patio overlooking the docks on a beautiful saturday afternoon. as usual, the saltydogwas busy, so we had to wait about 30 minutes, but we walked around the marina to browse the quaint shops until our pager went off. once we were seated the server was prompt, attentive, knowledgeable, and fun. i then enjoyed seeing a group of curmudgeonly seniors try to seat themselves and get thrown out by (a gracious) hostess. interesting mixed drinks and draft beers were available. lunch selection was great. wish they had the live music at lunch, since the show at dinner is always a hit with the kids (and me). prices were typical for a tourist spot, but what do you expect? you're paying for the experience. i challenge anyone to say they haven't had a great time at the dog! this is a tradition for our family whenever we come to hilton head.

stop kidding yourself. this is a "family bar." a place where mom and dad can have a few drinks and the kids can play. food is cafeteria at best. drinks are waaaaaay overpriced. and if the tide is out, it's a mudhole. i live on hhi, and this place is a joke. need to give these guys money? save a fortune at the restaurant, stop at sunoco and buy 2 24oz bud lights for $4, fire up sweet caroline on the ipod, drive through mickey dee's, and drive over to the saltydog"outlet" store on arrow rd

as you may expect from seeing all the saltydogt-shirts, it is a tourist trap. the difference between this tourist trap and others is the food is actually good. my family thoroughly enjoyed it and we were kept cool the mist. great experience.

if you head to the saltydogcafe...ask for anatolyie. what an amazing service experience. you are at the cafe for the sake of going to the saltydogbut people like analolyie make it 10x more enjoyable!

the ultimate tourist trap. from a local... i can say that there are much better choices for food. tripadvisor.com has realistic ratings systems by visitors and no opportunity to "stack the deck."

have to give the saltydogcredit - they have convinced millions of people to buy the t shirt.
